No full textThis collection consists of site images and records, a report, and a CAD vector drawing from an archaeological evaluation at Green Lane, Everton, Bedfordshire. Works were conducted by Albion Archaeology in February and March of 2023. All excavated features contained finds and where datable were from the post-medieval or modern periods; predominantly 18th century onwards. The ditches probably served as minor field boundaries or for drainage, and a number of wheel ruts are likely to be related to the use of farm machinery in the field

No full textThis collection contains text documents, images, vector graphics (CAD), and site records from archaeological monitoring and recording undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust at 45 Castle Road, Colchester, Essex, between 25 April and 2 May 2024. The work was carried out in accordance with the archaeological brief and written scheme of investigation (WSI). Monitoring took place during groundworks for the construction of a single-storey rear extension. The site lies within the north-east corner of the Roman walled town. Two post-Roman layers were recorded, both producing a substantial quantity of Roman pottery and ceramic building material

No full textThis collection comprises images from a Desk-based Assessment, Historic Building Recording and Archaeological Monitoring at Higher Velly Farm, Hartland, Torridge, Devon. Work was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd between June 2015 and January 2016. These works were commissioned in order to establish the historic background, building phasing and nature of archaeological remains that may be affected by the conversion of the farm buildings and associated development works. Whilst Higher Velly Farm is not a listed building, the likely late medieval origin of the complex makes it of local significance, particularly with the survival of early fabrics within buildings B1 and B2. The primary function of building B1 was as a detached kitchen block, probably of late medieval date. This suggests that a reasonably high status house of this date was present nearby, the location of which is unknown. The majority of the surviving structures, however, are representative of a 19th/early 20th century rationalisation of the earlier building group

No full textThis collection comprises image, text and CAD data from archaeological excavation and monitoring at Alresford Hall, Alresford, Colchester, CO7 8AY. The work was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in advance of the construction of an adventure play-park between July and December 2021. The site was located adjacent to Alresford Hall, a Grade II listed building, within an area of known cropmarks. Work revealed an area that was sporadically inhabited from the Middle Bronze Age until the early Roman period. Notable features include a possible linear trackway, ring-ditch and a pit which produced an almost complete Bronze Age loomweight

A total of 6 trenches were excavated to test geophysical anomalies and characterise the results of the geophysical survey. A large, undated double ditched boundary feature was investigated in four trenches across the site. Possible extraction pits identified on the geophysics were proved to be natural hollows

No full textThis collection consists of site images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation at Clarice House, Bramford Road, Suffolk. Works were undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in April 2021 prior to development. Ten trenches were excavated across the development area to provide a representative sample of the remainder of the area. A 11th-12th century focus of activity was identified in the area of Trenches 7-9, close to the junction between Bramford Lane and Bramford Road, with an assemblage of forty-three sherds of early medieval pottery, a small assemblage of fired clay and fifty five fragments of shellfish
