Work was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust between February and March 2023. St Osyth Priory is a medieval priory that was founded in the 1120's with the kitchen walled garden probably built in the mid-19th century. Excavation revealed features probably associated with activity in the kitchen garden

No full textThis collection consists of images, spreadsheets, databases and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation and excavation by Cotswold Archaeology. Work occurred at the site of the former prison at Blundeston, Suffolk in 2020. The archaeological evaluation was carried out in February and March 2020, A total of twenty-seven trenches were excavated, ten within the prison perimeter fence and seventeen outside it, to the north and east. Archaeological deposits, comprising three pits, six postholes and sixteen ditches, were present in nine of the trenches. The subsequent excavation was conducted between May and July 202. Two areas of archaeological significance were identified and subsequently recorded during open area excavation. A series of ditches and small enclosures were present in the main excavation area, most of which are likely to be associated with phases of medieval field systems

No full textThis collection comprises of image, text, photogrammetry, spreadsheet and GIS data from archaeological recording work at Hunts Green Farm, Chiltern, Buckinghamshire. The work was undertaken by INFRA Archaeology between 2021 and 2022. The Site surrounds Grim's Ditch Scheduled Monument (List Entry 1021198) which was the subject of a separate investigation (at C10021). A variable density of archaeology was uncovered during the excavations and was dated from the Iron Age to the post-medieval periods but focused in the Roman era. The most significant remains were those of the large boundary ditch identified as a continuation of the Grim's Ditch, thought to have its origins in the Late Iron Age, which extended north of the scheduled monument, seen in C21051 and C21052 excavation areas. A considerable assemblage of cultural material including pottery, ceramic building material, metalwork slag, flint and worked stone was recovered and is of significance

The works were conducted by Red River Archaeology in November 2022 prior to residential development. The evaluation results appear to indicate the site is low in archaeological activity, and the features present are representative of post-medieval to modern eras and of low significance

No full textThis collection consists of site images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation at Moat Meadow, Old Newton, Suffolk. Works were conducted by Cotswold Archaeology in November 2021. A small number of features (three pits, two post holes and a gully) were recorded across the site, with pottery indicating a prehistoric (Bronze Age) date for the pits and a small amount of Roman pottery within the ditch. Environmental evidence suggested the pit filled likely originated as hearth debris. A small amount of calcined bone was identified in one of the pits, with identified species including cattle and sheep/goat, further refining the fill material as likely domestic hearth waste

No full textThis collection comprises image, spreadsheet, photogrammetry and CAD data from building survey work at Moor Cottages (Numbers 1 and 3), Knox's Grave Lane, Lichfield, Staffordshire. The work was undertaken by COPA: Cotswold Oxford Pre-Construct Archaeology between 2020 and 2023. The historic building and setting recording was undertaken prior to the demolition of Moor Cottages. An external and internal photographic survey of the cottages and their immediate setting. The building recording addresses two semi-detached cottages of late-19th century date which are located on the north-western corner of the junction of Flats Lane and Knox's Grave Lane. The cottages are thought to have been constructed as workers' cottages associated with the Packington Estate
