This collection comprises images, site records, reports, GIS data, and a Harris matrix from fieldwalking and constructed integrated recording at Field 70, north of Radstone, West Northamptonshire. This work was undertaken by Archaeological Research Services Ltd between August 2021 and May 2022 and forms part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) Phase 1 rail project. The site produced a large number of features of archaeological and potentially natural origin cut into the fluvio-glacial sand and gravel substrate, and sealed below colluvium. Clear structural forms were identified in some cases and pits containing burnt material and worked flint were found, which will allow the cultural activity to be dated

This collection comprises images from a Level 1 Visual and Level 2 Descriptive Historic Building Recording at Home Farm, Whittlebury, Northamptonshire. The work was carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in December 2024. . The recording was required to preserve the building by record prior to its demolition under Conditions 12 and 18 of planning permission S/2019/0037/MAO. The Level 1 and Level 2 building recording identified that while the barn, stables and several other 19th century buildings survive, they have been significantly altered during the 20th century and almost all historic finishes, fixtures and fittings have been removed. The significance of the site lies primarily in the legible courtyard plan which represents the historic development of the farmstead, and the surviving structural fabric of the historic farm buildings

    No full text
This collection consists of images, spreadsheets and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation by Cotswold Archaeology. Work occurred at Epic Campus, Ashton Vale, North Somerset, in February 2024. A small number of ditches, some containing artefactual material of a late 18th to 19th-century date, others artefactually undated, were identified in the south-western parts of the site. The ploughed out remains of agricultural furrows, most probably also of a post-medieval date, were identified in trenches excavated in the southwestern parts of the site. A single pit, containing hammerscale and fuel-waste charcoal, was identified in a trench excavated in the south-western part of the site

Images from Level 2 Descriptive Historic Building Recording at St Marys Church, Woodbridge, Suffolk, September 2024

This collection comprises images from a Level 2 Descriptive Historic Building Recording of a section of boundary wall at St Marys Church in Woodbridge, Suffolk. The work was carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in September 2024. The church is a Grade I Listed Building and the walls, entrance piers and gates are Grade II Listed. The structure subject to assessment comprises the southeast part of the churchyard boundary wall, which has become unsafe and is subject to stabilisation works. The recording also includes the gate piers located to the east of the churchyard, and a collection of burial markers. The purpose of the Historic Building Recording is to make a permanent record of the structure prior to works proceeding. The recording has identified that the wall contains areas of possible mid-16th century fabric, with numerous repairs throughout the 18th-20th century. Its fabric contains likely reused flint and rubble from the priory, with bricks consistent in size with that of the 16th century to early 17th century, in addition to later raking brick coping. The wall represents a composite structure, with its origins in the 16th century but heavily modified and extended during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The gate piers at the eastern extent of the churchyard are likely of 18th century construction, built from red brick with stone coping. A selection of burial markers subject to recording are located within the churchyard, most of which likely date to the 18th century

This collection comprises images, site records, reports, spreadsheets, and CAD files from two trench evaluations on land at Kingsbrook on the eastern edge of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology in April/May 2018 and July 2019. The first evaluation confirmed the presence of shallow furrows across much of the area and identified probable former field boundaries at two locations. No other archaeological features were encountered. In the second evaluation, a Roman boundary ditch was revealed along with a concentration of shallow pits or naturally silted hollows that were dated to the post-medieval period or later. These also contained several sherds of residual mid to late Iron Age pottery and provide evidence that activity of this date took place within the area, although no features or deposits of this period were identified during this investigation
