Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at Birch Quarry, Maldon Road, Layer Marney, Essex, August 2023
The collection comprises site images (including images of cremated human remains), site records, spreadsheet data, a vector drawing and a report from an archaeological evaluation at Birch Quarry, Maldon Road, Layer Marney, Essex. The works were undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in August 2023 in advance of the southward extension of Birch Quarry. Excavations uncovered a Lower Palaeolithic handaxe as well as evidence of fleeting activity at the site during the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. The primary phase of activity occurred during the Bronze Age, particularly the Middle Bronze Age. The most significant feature dating to this period was a pit containing two urned cremation burials bounded by a ring ditch. Further phases extended through the Roman and medieval periods, although deposits dating to these phases are sparse and scattered. Three post-medieval or modern field boundary ditches and two modern quarry pits were also excavated
Data from Archaeological Recording at Fleet Marston Cottages and Putlowes, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, 2021 (HS2 Phase One)
This collection comprises images, site records, spreadsheets, databases, and GIS and photogrammetry data from an archaeological recording at Fleet Marston Cottages and Putlowes, Aylesbury Buckinghamshire. This work was undertaken by COPA between January and October 2021 as part of the High Speed 2 (HS2) infrastructure project. The archaeological recording works covered eight excavation areas targeting the Iron Age and Roman remains revealed at the site during a preceding trial trench evaluation. The archaeological recording was required to further identify the location, extent, survival and significance of the remains of an Iron Age settlement site, the Roman road of Akeman Street and associated roadside plots and enclosures, a minor Roman road and its associated enclosures, and a late Roman cemetery
Digital Archive from an Archaeological Excavation at Lakeside Avenue, Lydney, Gloucestershire, January 2011-October 2012
This collection comprises images (including photographs of cremation burials), text, spreadsheets, databases, and vector data from an archaeological excavation on land south of Lakeside Avenue, Lydney, Gloucestershire. This work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between January 2011 and October 2012. The earliest identified remains were several dispersed pits containing Beaker period pottery and a Middle Bronze Age cremation cemetery comprising 29 cremation burials. The main occupation of the site began in the Late Iron Age when an enclosure was established on a ridge of higher ground. The enclosure underwent several episodes of alterations throughout the Late Iron Age/Early Roman period, and in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, it was replaced by a series of smaller enclosures. A number of probable post-built structures were identified within the internal area of the earlier enclosure and a further possible post-built structure was focused on a contemporary boundary ditch to the south-west. The enclosures appeared to have fallen out of use by the 3rd or 4th centuries AD. Activity of this date was primarily agricultural, comprising elements of a field system, a possible post-line, and several curvilinear gullies

This collection comprises reports, images, and site records from an archaeological recording watching brief at the former premises of Newgate Carpets, located in Newgate, Beccles, Suffolk. Work was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology (PCA) in February 2022 and June 2023. PCA was engaged by K Garnham Design to conduct the Monitoring of Works. The development encompassed the demolition of existing structures on the site, along with archaeological monitoring during the removal of foundations, fuel storage tanks, a lorry inspection pit, six geotechnical test pits, excavation of services, and an attenuation tank. Additionally, the excavation of pillars, foundations, and service trenches related to the new development were subject to monitoring
Site Images and GIS Data from an Archaeological Evaluation at Novotel, Grey Friars Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, November 2019
This collection comprises site images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation within the grounds of Novotel, Greyfriars Road, Ipswich, Suffolk. The works were undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in November 2019. Two of the test pits reached archaeological levels, with a series of cut features identified in Pit 1 and late Saxon pottery recovered from the base of Pit 2. Pits 3 and 4 were hand excavated to a depth of 1.2m but did not extend below modern deposits. The open areas and finds assemblage were too small to make any meaningful interpretation, however the fieldwork demonstrated the survival of Late Saxon/Early medieval archaeology at a depth of c.1.3m-1.5m. Similar deposits could also survive below the limit of excavation in Pits 3 and 4
