Table-to-Text Generation of Energy Advisory Reports : A Comparison of Template and Prompt Based Methods
Improving energy efficiency in manufacturing is an important step toward reducing overall energy use and environmental impact. Tailored advisory reports based on a company’s own energy consumption data can be a helpful approach. This study explores whether parts of such reports can be automatically generated from structured data, either through traditional template-based methods or by prompting a large language model. The reports used in the study were produced by the company DAZOQ, which provides energy monitoring and analysis for industrial clients. The two generation methods were tested and evaluated both through automated comparison with the original reports and through human assessment. The results showed that only a small portion of the original content could be generated based on the available data, highlighting the importance of how input is structured. The template-based method achieved higher similarity to the human-written reports, while the prompt-based method produced more varied output. All reports were rated highly by a human evaluator, regardless of method. The study concludes that automatic generation in this domain is possible and may be useful in practice, but further development of both the input data format and the generation approach could enhance the results. Given the scope of the study, no definitive conclusion can be drawn about which method is generally preferable
Ultra-Low-Power Optical Front-Ends and System Design for Implantable Fluorescence Sensing Applications
Fluorescence-based biosensing has revolutionized biomedical research, offering a powerful tool for non-invasive cellular monitoring. By leveraging optical detection techniques, these systems enable precise tracking of biochemical processes at the microscale. Implantable fluorescence sensing systems enable real-time biomedical monitoring, providing high-resolution cellular activity detection in vivo environments. These systems are crucial for tracking biomarkers like calcium ion concentrations, advancing disease diagnostics. To ensure long-term operation, they must be miniaturized and ultra-low power, enabling efficient signal acquisition and data communication within the strict constraints of implantable devices. This research proposes innovative front-end designs for implantable fluorescence sensing, addressing challenges in sensitivity, dynamic range (DR), and power efficiency. A novel tunable transimpedance amplifier (TIA) was designed to detect currents from 1 pA to 400 pA, using pseudo-resistor (PR) feedback to minimize silicon area. To ensure reliable signal acquisition in varying lighting conditions, an ambient light cancellation technique was developed, demonstrating 1 pA sensitivity with a total front-end power consumption of 61.8 μW. Furthermore, to address the DR limitation, a novel two-step conversion technique was introduced, extending the DR by 2 bits to 72.3 dB using a 10-bit successive approximation register (SAR) analog to digital converter (ADC), achieving an effective resolution of 12 bits. A further optimized design extended the DR by 3 bits, utilizing a 12-bit SAR ADC, pushing the effective DR to 15 bits, along with a high-speed, fast-settling technique for the PR TIA block, implemented in 65 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS). Earlier implementations of front-ends in this study focused on overcoming individual challenges. To provide a solution for implantable non-invasive fluorescent monitoring, the final development in this thesis proposes a system-on-chip (SoC) that integrates the optical front-end with the proposed power management and wireless communication units. This SoC marks progress toward a fully miniaturized and ultra-low-power solution. The developed SoC integrates a high-sensitivity optical front-end with the proposed fast-settling TIA (configurable gain: 2 bits) and a light-emitting diode (LED) driver (configurable current: 2 bits) for fluorescence excitation, alongside a radio frequency (RF) energy-harvesting and power management unit (PMU). The PMU includes the proposed ultra-low-power battery monitoring and dual-mode low-dropout regulators, enabling the idle and standby modes to further reduce power consumption. Data acquisition is managed by a 12-bit SAR ADC and a power-optimized Static Random-Access Memory (SRAM) for standby mode, which temporarily stores measurements before wireless transmission to a base station. Implemented in 65 nm CMOS technology, the SoC achieves a configurable sensitivity of 0.5–2 pA, operating at an average power consumption of 1 μW, and supporting an upper DR limit of 1 nA–5 nA. This compact 2 x 2.7 mm2 SoC represents a major step forward in next-generation wireless fluorescence biosensing, unlocking new possibilities for real-time implantable applications. Detta kompakta 2 x 2,7 mm2 SoC representerar ett stort framsteg inom nästa generations trådlösa fluorescensbiosensorer, vilket öppnar nya möjligheter för realtidsapplikationer inom implanterbar teknologi.2025-08-13: The thesis was first published online. Teleoperating Autonomous Vehicles : Key Challenges and Design Guidlines
As autonomous vehicles (AVs) increasingly rely on remote operation (RO) systems for oversight and intervention, understanding the challenges in human-AV interaction becomes critical. This study identifies and analyzes key RO challenges through thematic analysis of interviews conducted with experts and professional drivers, framed by Endsley’s (2004) situation awareness principles and Nielsen’s (2020) usability heuristics. Six core themes emerged: (1) perceptual limitations, (2) human cognition, (3) redundancy for safety, (4) latency & degradation, (5) interaction with humans, and (6) responsibility. The findings reveal current gaps in current RO designs, particularly in operator situational awareness and system reliability. Furthermore, the study discusses the need for standardized interfaces, regulatory clarity, and human-centered automation aligning with Bainbridge’s (1983) ‘Ironies of Automation.’ These insights provide a foundation for future RO system optimization, emphasizing the balance between automation and human control to ensure safety and adaptability in real-world AV deployment
To Justify Solutions for an Increased Interest in Mathematics : Can a Student’s Justifications of Solutions to Math Problems Lead to an Increased Subject Matter Interest?
This literature review aims to describe six different studies that in different ways involve students who are challenged in different contexts to justify and explain answers that have been given in an educational and subject-based context. At the same time, students’ subject-based interest is examined through the lens of self-determination theory and its three psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. Literature was searched for with the databases Scopus and ERIC through the Linköping University library. Snowball searches were made on the search results. The chosen studies were analyzed and summarized thematically. The result of the study shows that interest and justifications of answers are measured in many different ways by the chosen studies, and students are challenged to motivate and explain their answers by a varied amount of actors and in different methods. Finally, all of the studies found that the students’ interest or the psychological needs that make intrinsic motivation possible were positively affected by their study. This can be explained by many different factors, of which one contributing factor can be the students’ justifications of answers
Fashionable Policy : A Critical Discourse Analysis of H&M Group's Labour Policies and Corporate Social Responsibility
The purpose of this study is to show how H&M Group utilizes policy around labour conditions and human rights to position themselves in a more favourable way with their consumers. The research questions are how the visibility of the brand affects the way they write policy on labour conditions on human rights, as well as how they utilize corporate social responsibility in their writing, and how they take or deny responsibility for the working conditions in the supply chain. The study was done using critical discourse analysis according to Fairclough's approach. Theories were corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the post-panoptical regime of visibility. CSR is a set of strategies that corporations use to respond to consumer pressure of ethics. The post-panoptical visibility refers to the ways everyone watches each other in society today. It's no longer just the government, but also corporations and other individuals. The conclusions were that H&M Group are affected by visibility in the way they write their policy, and will often use language that makes them appear as though they value human rights, even though at close examination, these texts often lack substance or use wording that absolves the company from some of the responsibility. However, the policies that apply to business partners only, often have substance and language that indicates force, effectively pushing the responsibility on to them. It was also concluded that although H&M Group doesn't explicitly write about CSR, they do still use the framework itself. Through the policies, they have institutionalised ethics, although there is evidence that these ethical principles aren't always followed. They also use CSR to enact pressure on business partners.
What's the problem represented to be?" (WPR).
Entangling in Mangrove Mobilities : A Multispecies Ethnography of Mangrove Forests in Kenya
This thesis aims to understand why mangrove forests in Kenya are attracting (inter)national attention and examine how intersecting mobilities and performances are reconfiguring mangrove forests into global places of attraction. By examining the effects of global attention, the unequal power dynamics between (inter)national 'hosts' and 'guests' are revealed. Centering mangrove forests in this multispecies ethnography elucidates the multiple and complex flows of mobilities and performances occurring from (inter)national actors. Mangrove forests are attracting global attention through research, conservation, and (eco)tourism. Entangling myself in this research allows me to encounter mangrove forests as both a 'place to play' and a 'place to conserve', following the concept 'Places to Play, Places in Play' by Mimi Sheller and John Urry (2004). Within them, there are numerous mobilities taking place such as collecting biodiversity data, carrying mangrove seedlings, participating in tourist activities such as mangrove floats, to videos being posted on social media. All of these 'mangrove mobilities' are reshaping mangrove forests into global places of attraction.
Know your CSRD : Unveiling the real challenges of CSRD implementation and strategic actions
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a new regulation that organizations must comply with, and many are eager to understand its implications. Due to the lack of clear benchmarks and standardized approaches, companies often seek insights into the CSRD process, the challenges involved, and how these challenges have been addressed. However, given the novelty of the regulation, there are only limited resources available. To help address this gap, this study investigates the challenges and strategies related to CSRD implementation using a combination of semi-structured interviews with a company that have already implemented the CSRD process, as well as experts involved in the implementation, along with a netnographic study involving industry professionals to provide multiple perspectives on the topic. These multiple perspectives will offer a great understanding of how challenges emerge at different organizational levels. Furthermore, beyond merely identifying challenges and strategies, the study adopts a systems thinking approach to explore how these challenges are interconnected and interact within the organizational context. This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding and supports the development of more effective solutions. Finally, as a practical outcome, the study concludes with a step-by-step booklet that organizations can use as a guide helping them navigate the CSRD process and prepare for successful implementation.
Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is an emerging trend that offers many opportunities in auditing and is defined as a system with the ability to learn and mimic human intelligence. In auditing AI can be used to enhance efficiency and optimise time, among other benefits. Statistics also show that the use of AI varies across different genders and ages. Purpose: This purpose of this study is to explore how audit staff’s trust in AI varies across demographic factors and how that trust influences the extent of AI usage in the audit process. Methodology: The study was conducted with a mixed research method, therefore incorporating both deductive and inductive approaches. The theories applied focus on human behaviour, trust in AI, and auditing. Conclusion: The demographic factors that influence trust in AI among audit staff are age and audit firm, where younger audit staff and those employed at Big 4 firms are more inclined to trust AI. However, AI is not used to its full potential or to the extent suggested by theory, primarily due to limited understanding and knowledge about the technology, as well as a lack of clear guidelines and regulations. Contribution: The study contributes to understanding AI’s theoretical potential, its actual use in auditing, and audit staff’s trust in it across different demographics factors.
