    Ipnops sp.

    No full text
Seems to be undisturbed by the presence of the ROVA fish that has been rarely photographed. I. agassizi (shaloower than 2000 m) and I. meadi (deeper than 3500 m) are found in the Indian Ocean. It is not possible to identify this specimen to species level because the image resolution isn't high enough

Moving slowly over the seabed. Video available on SERPENT Project You Tube Channel: https://youtu.be/3N_QWaJIgUYThis cirrate octopod is a likely Grimpoteuthis sp but it is not possible to identify with confidence a specimen is required to count suckers and dissect out the shell. Other possible identifications include: Cryptoteuthis and Luteuthis: http://tolweb.org/Luteuthis/20105 http://tolweb.org/Cryptoteuthis_brevibracchiata/121985)bu

    Echinothuriid

    No full text
Note the change in sediment appearance where the animal has moved over the surfaceThe hooves on the spines are diagnostic for what Mortensen called asthenosomine echinothurioids, but this basically excludes only the Phormosoma group. Notice the dark tips of the aboral spines - these are venom-bearing tissues. There are 8 genera in the group with hooves on the spines but what ambulacral plating strongly suggests a Sperosoma or a Tromikosoma

    Apristurus sp.

    No full text
A catshark of the genus Apristurus seen swimming in front of the BOP at Ngisi. This individual is fairly stout with a dorsal “hump” which tapers down to the head. There are several species that have a similar shape with coloration ranging from dark grey to brown, but none that quite match the colour and shape of this individual
