Visioni dell'Oriente del confucianesimo televisivo
The concepts of Orient and Occident are characterised by a history and a tradition of thought. Like images in the mirrors, these ideas are meaningful only when compared with each other. This paper draws the ‘portrait of Orient’ by examining two types of Chinese drama series: series about transnational families, featuring interactions between Chinese and non-Chinese cultures; and series which captured the imagination of audiences in China. The television’s fictional products depict the Chinese perception of the Orient as a contemporary revival of traditional values and practices. The core value of this Orient is the supremacy of collective interest, a concept inherently in contrast with a West that worships the individual above all. The part of humanity capable of appreciating the nobility of these values can slip down easily into this cultural “East”, understood as Tianxia, the ancient Chinese cultural concept that denoted either the entire geographical world or the metaphysical realm of noble men

The Europe in two billion eyes: Images from Chinese television
Mass media, in general, and television, in particular (as one of the most accessible and
frequently used means of mass communication), reflect to a certain extent feelings and
images that exist within a given society and remodel perceptions. This article presents
to the readers an interesting analysis of the influence of Chinese television on the way the EU and Europeans are seen in China. It draws the ‘portrait of Europe’ by examining two types of Chinese drama series: series about transnational families featuring interaction between Chinese and non-Chinese cultures; and series about Chinese immigrants or tourists in Europe, showing the Chinese perception of the European lifestyle. It looks into the interactions between the characters featured in the series and the environment they are put in so as to examine the image of Europe that is being conveyed to the Chinese public
Television Literature: a Successful Literary Genre of Today’s China
The seriality, in times and ways typical of the television, has become a defining feature of
modern Chinese culture. Written narratives, purposefully created to meet the consumer’s
expectations, find in the television storytelling a way to satisfy the needs of the readers. Needs
that are largely emotional than intellectual; more visceral than cerebral. The intention of this
speech is to elucidate the radical transformation of the notion of writing in the contemporary
Chinese literature, whereby books turn into a product comparable to tv series, music videos or
even videogames. In order to show this transformation the paper analyses two literary works: The
Dialogues according to Yu Dan and Zhou Meisen’s In the Name of People, whose publication has
followed the timing of the broadcasting of two television works
