Concierto interpretado por Ravi Shankar. El virtuoso hindú de la "Sitar" (guitarra oriental), a quien se debe en grano parte el auge de popularidad, de la música hindú en Occidente y el resurgimiento de la "Sitar", un antiguo instrumento clásico, nació el 7 de abril de 1920 en Benares. A los 17 años siendo ya uno de los principales bailarines del internacionalmente famoso conjunto de danzas de su hermano Uday Shankar, conoció a Ustad Allaudin Khan, a menudo llamado el "padre de la música hindú". Sumamente conmovido e impresionado por la austera disciplina de una vida que había descartado todos los conflictos externos y materiales, el joven Shankar se alejó de los éxitos para transformarse en el "Shishya" (discípulo) de ese hombre. Solar Power in the Garden State
This special issue on energy and solar power in New Jersey was made possible because of the extensive portfolio of research centers and institutes at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Dr. Frank A. Felder, an Associate Research Professor, has been director of the School’s Center for Energy, Economic & Environmental Policy (CEEEP) since 2006. Frank is a nuclear engineer with a PhD degree from MIT, and he, along with his CEEEP colleague, Shankar N. Chandramowli, coauthored the main article in this issue of the Advance & Rutgers Report. Folk Documentation: A Conversation with Guha Shankar
Dr. Guha Shankar is a folklorist at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. He was in Logan to deliver the keynote lecture at the Fife Folklore Workshop, 5 June 2008. Guha is an expert at folk documentation, including fieldwork, preservation and education. He is an ethnographic filmmaker and develops community- and place-based education programs for the American Folklife Center. He conducts workshops in ethnographic research methods and skills-based training in field documentation in institutions across the US. Prior to graduate studies, Guha was Media Production Specialist and documentary film producer at the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Folklife Programs
