Service-oriented programming provides a natural way to model and manage many types of systems and allows software development teams to achieve operational flexibility, scalability, and reliability in a cost-effective manner. In particular, it has been used quite successfully for Web and mobile applications. However, building, deploying, and maintaining service-oriented systems is challenging and requires extensive planning, more effort during development, a detailed understanding of advanced networking techniques, and the use of complicated concurrent programming. This thesis presents a new programming language called Silo. Silo integrates features that address key conceptual and pragmatic needs of service-oriented systems that, holistically, are not easily satisfied by existing languages. Broadly, these needs include: a unified distributed programming model, a simple yet ecient construct for concurrency, a familiar yet extensible syntax, and the ability to interoperate with a rich ecosystem of libraries and tools. In this dissertation, I describe how Silo's features, constructs, and conventions satisfy these needs. Then, I present various compiler and runtime techniques used in Silo's implementation. Lastly, I provide a demonstration, through a variety of programming patterns and applications, of how Silo facilitates the design, implementation, and management of service-oriented systems.by Salman Azeem Ahmad.Ph. This study discussed the portrayal of Islamophobia and how to encounter it to live in a harmony in America after the 9/11 Attacks in the novel Yusuf Azeem Is Not a Hero by Saadia Faruqi. This research aimed at examining how to encounter islamophobia in the aftermath of the 9/11 Attacks portrayed in the novel. This study applied the qualitative descriptive method to analyse the data and note-taking as the research instrument. This study is represented through the point of view of genetic structuralism of how the author as a Moslem  delivers her experiences that takes place in the life of the author in facing  the Islamophobia into a novel. This  study finds how the main characters struggle to fight against  the islamophobia and this study figures out the efforts of countering it until the Moslem are accepted in social community:  showing  exemplary moral attitudes and actions, Having a courage in facing challenging situations as an attempt to explain the real Islam, showing tolerance (religion moderation) and Love and the author voices these ways to approve to the public about the true face of Islam through a literary work. Is Not a Hero karya Saadia Faruqi. This study discussed the portrayal of Islamophobia and how to encounter it to live in a harmony in America after the 9/11 Attacks in the novel Yusuf Azeem Is Not a Hero by Saadia Faruqi. A history of the Ottery School of Industries in Cape Town: issues of race, welfare and social order in the period 1937 to 1968

    No full text
Doctor EducationisThe primary task of this thesis is to explain the establishment of the 'correctional institution', the Ottery School of Industrues, in Cape Town in 1948 and the programmes of rehabilitation, correctional and vocational training and residential care that the institution developed in the period until 1968. This explanation is located in the wider context of debates about welfare and penal policy in South africa. The overall purpose is to show how modernist discourses in relation to social welfare, delinquency and education came to South Africa and was mediated through a racial lens unique to this country. In doing so the thesis uses a broad range of material and levels from the ethnographic to the documentary and historical. The work seeks to locate itself at the intersection of the fields of education, history, welfare, penalty and race in South Africa.South Afric
