    The world of Giuseppe Samonà is a world of profound destinies, of furrows that mark the surface of the island in order to move along the marine routes of the Mediterranean and arrive to distant places. Palermo, Naples and Venice thus seem connected by an invisible trace that links childhood gazes to his academic and professional activities. The link between historical imaginary and geographic imaginary finds an echo in the world of the invisible and of architectural composition. A world of forms that clashes with a precise construction of the landscape as succession of thresholds and remembrances, of architectural memories. In this system the space of the house, the domestic space, is recomposed as fragment and relation of the ancient Sicilian masserìe whose images and mappings persist intact in an elitarian and spiritual organism of compositional relationships. The traces unearthed by the author re-initiate an interrupted dialogue with the Sicilian territory, involving an archetypal adaptation that invests Mediterranean and Atlantic relationships in the re-founding of spatial hierarchies. The article is to be understood as an exploratory document which, based on “provocation” as analytic tool, leads to a possible spacial codification. A device that plays with the role of the image and of construction as premises for a narrative of the architectural project

    Lungo il Lago Maggiore la ‘Casa a Ghiffa’ fu trasformata da Aldo Rossi dal giorno di San Faustino del 1989, a partire da un vecchio mulino. È il sogno di una villa perduta, di qualcosa già divenuto mito fra sbiadite polaroid e disegni ritrovati. Dove sono finiti i colori, le memorie, gli oggetti, la loro polvere? Sono figure sepolte che riemergono in una costruzione di fotogrammi cinematografici tra desiderio e architettura, in quel luogo – Ghiffa – che fu inizio e fine di una vita d’autore. Aldo Rossi began the transformation of the ‘Ghiffa House’ on Lake Maggiore from an old mill on the day of San Faustino in 1989. It represented the dream of a lost villa, of something which had already become mythical among faded Polaroids and recovered sketches. Where have the colours, the memories, the objects and their dust gone? They are buried figures which re-emerge in a cinematographic construction of shots between desire and architecture, in that place – Ghiffa – which marked both the beginning and the end of an artist’s life

    On July 28, 1984 Ronald Reagan officially opened the XXIII Olympic Games in Los Angeles in an energetic ceremony at the Memorial Coliseum Stadium. In this occasion the city of the sun rediscovered in its streets the possibility of building a new world and re-reading urban geography through a map of ephemeral architectures composed of columns and triumphal arches, towers and obelisks in which the functional colors to the ornamentation and to its necessary opulence have reinvented Palladian education. «The most ceremonial juxtaposition consisted of magenta, vermilion, chrome yellow, and aqua stars on a white field within bands of aqua, light blue and magenta. The layering of stripes, lighter color next to darker, thick next to thin is an abstraction of the logo of the Los Angeles Games». America of the 80s celebrates bigness, reinvents the column, the arches and transforms the wall building art of ancient Rome into plastic and aluminum monuments, paper and nylon in the name of sport and the Olympics, able to defeat the demon of irrelevance and to define a reactionary mechanism of machines à rêver. Los Angeles thus becomes the scene of a new possible essay on architecture, called "festive federalism", proposing the time of the celebration and its television reproducibility by means of the ephemeral. The essay examines, 35 years after the first article appeared in Italy, the times, myths and spaces of the architecture of the celebration as elements to be mapped of a deforming idea of city and linguistic and narrative coding to define a document on the theory of monumental scale project
