Note a partire da Jacques Derrida e Jean-Luc Marion
This paper aims to draw a connection between Jacques Derrida and Jean-Luc Marion in regard to the role of negative theology. This scrutiny shows meaningful contributions of the Authors to a new definition of subjectivity in a post-metaphysical age, and their consideration about which possibilities are still open for a non-predetermined history given outside of the presence domain. The future is neither a totalisation of history by its end, nor a simple continuation of the present. It is an eschatological event, where the relationship with the other plays a crucial role for the self-constitution. Such an interlacement is generated by the confession, where the link between past and future is not causally determined, but instead it is self-witness, as in Augustine’s masterpiece, essential reference for both the Authors8161744Ethics in Progres
Jean-Luc Marion’s work addresses the theological theme by proposing the saturatedphenomenon as a theory reopening the place of God’s in contemporary philosophy. Theabsolute gratuity characterizing the divine manifestation calls a finite but still free subjectiveanswer. In particular, the developments of saturation towards the event lead to verify whetherthe human response and its temporal dimension maintains a fundamental role, reversed inan eschatological form. To understand the subjective form in Marion’s production it is usefulto introduce the concept of inoperosity, proposed by Jean-Luc Nancy and Giorgio Agambenand introduced in the theo-phenomenological field by Jean-Yves Lacoste. In fact, althoughMarion doesn’t use this concept, it is very useful, tracing a human relationship to the worldand to God not subjected to causal and metaphysical bonds. The God-human link in Marion’sphenomenology is obtained by a reflection on his analysis of the inoperative word, such aspraise and confession, a possibility for a free self-engagement in God’s revelatio
Witnessing is an increasingly important theme in the work of Jean-Luc Marion. According to Marion, the witness can be considered an appropriate figure to define the first person, the “I,” without reducing it to subjectivism and without envisaging the intersubjective tie as binary (dual or dialogic), inasmuch as the testimony refers instead to a ternary relation. The present analysis investigates the difference Marion identifies between the religious witness and what seems to be, according to common sense, the regular witness. While in the latter case, the subject is completely foreign to the event to which s/he testifies, in the case of the religious witness, the commitment is total. We will tackle this difference by showing that the fact of testifying always implies a connection with effectivity, which reveals itself through the profound commitment characterizing the witness’s life, up to the point of death. This becomes obvious when considering the role played by the witness’s confessing speech, which establishes an unsurpassable ternary relationship between the witness, the object of the testimony, and the one to whom it is addressed, by deploying an absolute form of the social bond
