Identità in esilio. Il rapporto tra “passioni identitarie” e “coscienza planetaria” in Paul Ricoeur

    No full text
This article investigates the question of the possible survival of cultures despite the dominant mechanisms of planetary standardization. Through the analysis of some writings by Paul Ricoeur, I want to describe an appropriate perspective of intercultural pluralism, which presupposes an attitude of self-decentering. The “passions of identity” coexist with a more elaborate form of “planetary awareness”. Western culture’s claim of being the only universal culture could be overcome and a real approach to other traditions made possible. On this view, human plurality can become a fundamental premise both for the constitution of the self, even as a “migrant” self, and for the configuration of a specific space of hospitality

Intorno a The Life of the Mind

What makes us think? What are we doing wenn we do nothing but think? Where are we wenn we are together with no one but ourselves? In the work The Life of the Mind Hannah Arendt reises these questions and explains that all invisible and soundless mental activities have in common a “withdrawal” from the world as it appears and a bending back toward the self. In this sense, the human being either engages in critical thinking or moves away from himself, falling into a condition of “thoughtlessness” and therefore of inhumanity

Understanding a Lateral Truth: Paul Ricoeur’s Intercultural Hermeneutics

    No full text
Starting from Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic pluralism and its relevance from the point of view of the current intercultural debate, the article aims to elaborate a pluralistic model in which we recognize the need for a hermeneutic virtue, the phronesis as a prerequisite for understanding that each person can only see parts of truth 'sideways' and that it is not possible to compare one's beliefs with those of others by looking at them from the outside, from a sort of superior view from above. Intercultural dialogue can only start from an awareness of the inadequacy and historical-cultural determinacy of different perspectives, avoiding the twin pitfalls of absolutizing singular points of view and falling into naive relativism. In this way, the article aims to discuss Ricoeur's conception of a situated and 'lateral' truth and, therefore, his original application of a phronetic-hermeneutic model in the dialogue between cultures

Che cos’è metafisica? Recenti risposte ad antiche domande

On the occasion of the ninety years of Martin Heidegger’s academic lecture “Was ist Metaphysik?” (1929), the Journal “Aquinas”, edited by Leonardo Messinese, asks this fundamental question again. Published articles give answers to this question that enhance the complex historical and conceptual evolution of metaphysics, but at the same time demonstrate how it can and should be declined in ever more plural terms

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
