These topics correspond with the names of the four sections of the Department of Management in the Built Environment at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft, the Netherlands. The book is a Liber Amicorum for prof. Hans de Jonge to mark his farewell as professor of real estate management and development. Due to the special role Hans de Jonge has had for over 25 years in our department the book includes many other contributions as well, from his former and current PhD candidates, university managers, and academic and professional colleagues from inside and outside the faculty. It offers a diversity of words of praise, personal memories, solid pieces of academic work, and reflections on the present, past and future of real estate management and development. As such the book presents a very interesting story of twenty five years of teaching and conducting research being started, guided and/or influenced by Hans de Jonge. Moeten jonge sporters een hartscreening ondergaan? : Synthese
No full text28 p.ill.,Kan plotse dood door hartstilstand bij jonge sporters (14-34 jaar) worden voorkomen door preventief bij iedereen een hartonderzoek uit te voeren? Een nieuwe studie van het Federaal Kenniscentrum voor de Gezondheidszorg (KCE) zette het beschikbare wetenschappelijk bewijsmateriaal op een rijtje.
Het slechte nieuws is dat er vandaag geen betrouwbare wetenschappelijke gegevens bestaan die aantonen dat door hartscreening bij asymptomatische jonge sporters het risico op vroegtijdige overlijdens kan worden voorkomen. De onderzoeken die bij dergelijke hartscreening kunnen worden gebruikt zijn onvoldoende nauwkeurig. Een kwart van de mensen met verhoogd risico wordt gemist. En anderzijds veroorzaken deze onderzoeken vele tienduizenden gevallen van vals alarm, met ongerustheid en overbodige bijkomende onderzoeken als gevolg. Uiteindelijk kan bij een dergelijke systematische screening niet worden vermeden dat duizenden jonge sporters onnodig worden behandeld, wat ook niet zonder risico is, of dat zij het advies krijgen om tijdelijk of definitief te stoppen met sporten. Terwijl niet bewezen is dat door al deze maatregelen het netto aantal overlijdens daalt.
Het goede nieuws is dat voor jonge, recreatieve sporters die geen hartklachten hebben, het KCE aanraadt hen niet te verplichten tot een sportmedische hartscreening vooraleer ze lid kunnen worden van een sportclub of deel kunnen nemen aan sportieve massa-evenementen. Bij klachten of symptomen blijft het uiteraard aangewezen een arts te consulteren.
De overheid heeft al heel wat inspanningen gedaan om het risico voor sporters te beperken. Rewarding Open Science, Team Science and Collaborative Approaches
No full textPresentations given at the workshop 'Rewarding Open Science, Team Science and Collaborative Approaches' organised by NWO, the Dutch Research Council, during the second Recognition and Rewards Festival held online on 4 February 2022. This workshop was organised, moderated and hosted by NWO's Maria Cruz, Hans de Jonge and Ammeret Rossouw. It was one of the workshops that took place during the Festival.
About the workshop
NWO introduced the Open Science Fund as a funding instrument designed to reward and incentivise researchers who practice open science. Many of the awarded projects in the 2020/2021 round rely on a collaborative approach that leverages the strengths and expertise of professionals trained in different fields and disciplines – in other words, a team science approach. The quality and strength of the team was part of the grant assessment criteria, as was the open science track record of the main applicant. Taking three of the awarded projects as examples, the workshop looked at best practices for team work and collaboration and discussed how to reward and recognise such practices.
