Economic Potential of Using High Tunnel Hoop Houses to Produce Fruits and Vegetables
Abstract Hoop house plasticulture has been promoted as a production technology that allows fruit and vegetable crops to be grown in the cool season months in early spring and late fall. At this time little information regarding the economics of hoop house plasticulture is available. Two fruit and vegetable production systems were developed for growing conditions in south-central Oklahoma. The first system has a spinach crop followed by field tomato, and the second system has annually produced strawberry followed by yellow and zucchini squash. Crop production data were collected in a three-year randomized and replicated experiment. The objectives were (1) to determine the expected cost of production for each crop and systems, (2) to determine the breakeven price for each crop in each system, and (3) to determine how robust breakeven prices are to a number of yield, expense and marketing scenarios. The expected total cost of production were 1,652 per house for spinach and tomato crops, respectively, and 359 and 3.32 and 6.16, 1.40 per pound for strawberry and yellow and zucchini squash, respectively. Breakeven prices for spinach and strawberry crops were most sensitive to assumptions about quantity of marketable yield sold and/or quantity of yield consumed by grower household.breakeven prices, economics, fruits and vegetables, hoop houses, plasticulture, Agribusiness, Farm Management, Labor and Human Capital, Marketing, Production Economics,
Lead-bismuth eutectic recrystallization studies for the Megapie target
The expansion behaviour after freezing of the lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) with 44.5% lead and 55.5% bismuth is described according to the reported theory. The issue of the vessel structural integrity after LBE recrystallization was dealt with by experimental and numerical studies performed in the frame of the Megapie (Megawatt Pilot Experiment) project. We have identified the important elements which, in the case of LBE solidification inside the Megapie target, play a role in the reduction of the possible vessel over-stressing; among them, the LBE yield strength has been tested under significant experimental conditions. The resulting suggestions can also be related to the design and to the freezing procedures for other LBE technology facilities
Leone P., 2023. Teletandem. Apprendere le lingue in telecollaborazione. Cesena/Bologna, Caissa Italia, pp. 159.
Three-point functions for a class of chiral operators in maximally supersymmetric CFT at large N
We present a calculation of three-point functions for a class of chiral operators, including the primary ones, in d = 3, script N = 8; d = 6, script N = (2,0) and d = 4, script N = 4 superconformal field theories at large N. These theories are related to the infrared world-volume descriptions of N coincident M2-, M5-and D3-branes, respectively. The calculation is done in the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence and can be given a unified treatment employing a gravitational action in arbitrary dimensions D, coupled to a p + 1-form and suitably compactified on AdSD-2-p × S2+p. The interesting cases are obtained setting (D,p) to the values (11,5), (11,2) and (10,3). © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
Recent advances in masonry homogenization
Homogenization remains a popular subject in masonry research. Usually the complex geometry of the basic cell is replaced by a simplified geometry so that a close-form solution of the homogenization problem is possible. Many other approaches involving different approximations and ingenious assumptions have been sought. To overcome the weak approximation, a micromechanical homogenization model that consider additional internal deformation mechanisms and a model based on the polynomial expansion of the stress field inside the R.V.E. are presented
Three point functions of chiral primary operators in d= 3, N = 8 and d=6, N = (2,0) SCFT at large N
We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate three point functions of chiral primary operators at large N in d = 3, N = 8 and d=6, N = (2,0) superconformal field theories. These theories are related to the infrared fixed points of world-volume descriptions of N coincident M2 and M5 branes, respectively. The computation can be generalized by employing a gravitational action in arbitrary dimensions D, coupled to a (p + 1)-form and appropriately compactified on AdS(D-p-2) × S(p + 2). We note a surprising coincidence: this generalized model reproduces for D = 10, p = 3 the three point functions of d = 4, N = 4 SYM chiral primary operators at large N. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Impact of peltigera praetextata on zucchini grown in weathered p,p' -dde-contaminated soil and its responses
Terricolous lichens, located in soils, can change the bioavailability of polluted soil biologically, chemically and physically with their effective enzymatic content. Their effects are unknown especially on weathered p,p'-DDE-contaminated soil. However, we obtain new information by increasing our studies on this subject. In the present study, the impact of Peltigera praetextata (a terricolous lichen) on zucchini (Cucurbita pepo spp. pepo) grown in weathered p,p'-DDE-contaminated soil was shown via its physiological responses. At the same time, the physiological responses of Peltigera praetextata were also given. The results show that the growth and development of the zucchini grown in weathered p,p'-DDE-contaminated soil was positively affected by Peltigera praetextata. Peltigera praetextata was increased the bio-usefulness of weathered p,p'-DDE-contaminated soil with its effective enzyme contents. Moreover, Peltigera praetextata was able to cope with p,p'-DDE contamination with the strong antioxidative defence system
Attitudes toward a fiscal union in the Eurozone
We investigate public attitudes toward the fiscal union: a policy advocated in official European Union documents and designed to address asynchronous economic fluctuations in the Eurozone. We employ survey questions and conjoint analyses embedded in population-based panel surveys in Italy, and draw expectations from political economy theories of tax-and transfer public insurance schemes, and theories of party cues, identity and trust. High income right-wing individuals with low trust, weak European identity and negative assessment of EU membership are more likely to oppose the measure. However, high income respondents display greater willingness to pay, especially in order to keep the euro, whereas lower income participants are readier to ditch the currency if the monetary union does not deliver good economic performance. The political feasibility of this policy seems therefore to rest on the willingness to contribute by the core constituency supporting the euro
