Wind tunnel experiments of tracer dispersion downwind from a small-scale physical model of a landfill
Full text linkWind tunnel experiments have been carried out on a small-scale physical model of a municipal waste landfill (MWL) in the CRIACIV (Research Centre of Building Aerodynamics and Wind Engineering) “environmental” wind tunnel in Prato (Italy). The MWL model simulates a landfill whose surface is higher than the surrounding surface, applying a 1:200 scaling factor. Modelling an area source such as landfill is a difficult task for numerical models due to turbulence phenomena that modifies the flow near the source increasing ground level concentration (GLC). For the specific task, a new set-up of the wind tunnel has been developed, with respect to previous studies carried out on line and point sources physical models. The tracer used in the experiments was ethylene, suitable for non-buoyant plume conditions, typical for MWL emissions. A detailed result database has been obtained in terms of GLC and concentration profiles as well as flow turbulence and velocity field characterisation

No full textLa questione più urgente del sistema sanitario svedese riguarda il contenimento della spesa sanitaria, connesso alla crescente difficoltà di garantire gli standard nazionali di assistenza. I tradizionali principi informatori del sistema, equità ed accessibilità, si scontrano oggi con la necessità di far fronte ai problemi tipici dei Paesi sviluppati: invecchiamento della popolazione, maggiori costi delle tecnologie, incremento della domanda di servizi. Le misure adottate nel tempo per far fronte a queste esigenze appaiono poco incisive e incapaci di mutare nel profondo la struttura di un sistema di finanziamento che pone i Consigli di Contea di fronte a grandi difficoltà nel reperimento delle risorse sufficienti a garantire un livello di salute standardizzato su canoni di ottima qualità

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
