    No full text
Aim: Research of chemical composition and bioactivity of Agastache foeniculum (Pursh) Kuntze.Materials and Methods: Two literary databases (PubMed and Science Direct) were explored. Main results: The results of the database on the Internet revealed the presence of two groups of biologically active substances in the essential oil: 1. Main volatile compounds: phenylpropanoic and terpene derivatives (estragolе, methyl eugenol, pulegone, menthol and isomenthol); 2. Main non-volatile compounds: derivatives of caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid; flavonoids: acacetin and its 3-O-glycoside tilianin; lignans: agastenol and agastinol, diterpenes and triterpenoids, carotenoids, sterols. The plant is used against gastritis, liver, bile and kidney diseases, headaches and alleviates menstrual pain and pain in facial paralysis. It helps strong recovery after nerve disorders, acts favorably even in the treatment of victims of radiation. The traditional Chinese medicine considers the plants as a symbol of youth and beauty.Preclinical and Clinical studies of bioactivity of the plant extracts established antimicrobial and antiviral effects, activity, anti-inflammatory and hypocholesterolemic effects, antioxidant and anticancer activity. Conclusion: Anise is rich in biologically active substances that have various biological effects. There is a need of more in-depth phytochemical studies to identify the single compounds and their biological effects, and possible applications in the medical practice

Phytotherapy in the Management of Menopause-Associated Vasomotor Symptoms

    No full text
Introduction: Menopause is the permanent cessation of menstruation for at least 12 consecutive months which results from the loss of ovarian follicular activity. Although it is a normal and natural part of aging occurring on average at age of 51 years, most menopausal women develop symptoms, which may deteriorate their quality of life for around one third of their life span (given the mean female life expectancy in Bulgaria of 78 years). The most common complaints are the vasomotor symptoms (VMS: hot flashes and night sweats). Hormone therapy was the gold standard of care for menopausal symptoms before the release of the Women`s Health Initiative. Afterwards, women became reluctant or anxious to use hormone therapy and sought natural non-hormonal alternatives.Materials and Methods: An analysis of accessible articles in scientific web databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar) on the problem was conducted. Collected data considering evidence in alleviating vasomotor symptoms by popular herbal remedies was further reviewed and summarized. Results: Botanical supplements are considered to act through a number of different mechanisms of action including estrogenic, progestogenic, and/or serotonergic pathways that might mimic the actions of endogenous substances. But clinical studies of the main herbal drugs used to alleviate vasomotor symptoms either did not suggest significant efficacy (as not being superior to placebo) or were limited, and inconsistent, or show different improvements: in well-being, depression, health scores. Thus, patients should be informed to be cautious of possible side effects notwithstanding the general perception of that something is safe if it is of natural origin. In case of adverse reactions, women should be referred to specialists for reconsideration of their therapy. Conclusion: To conclude, as the evidence for phytotherapeutic menopausal VMS relief is both scarce and unconvincing, there is definitely a continued need for further work on the effectiveness and long-term safety of herbal medicinal products

Context and Approach for Detecting Perspective Market Niches of the Bulgarian Economy

    No full text
Determining the long-term perspectives in front of the Bulgarian economy is an essential condition for its competitive development and integration in the world production and trade networks. Besides being a subject of a wide professional discussion, this should be a start of the elaboration of a National Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of Bulgaria, which is a high priority prerogative of the highest state administration. The aim of the article is to indirectly take part in the discussion and eventually provoke its expansion and increase its complexity. The views expressed in it are based on the investigations completed and results obtained by the author.

Causation as an Element of Civil Structure of Damages

The article deals with the problem of causal nexus in the civil law. Based on analysis of respective regulations similar in their contents in both Russian and Belarusian civil law, the author comes to conclusion that casual nexus is both a condition of contractual liability and an element of civil structure of damages at the same time. Emphasizing the fact that neither legislation nor judicial enforcement require a researcher to make a strict separation between these aspects both in Belarus and Russia, the author argues that accentuation of one of the above aspects (namely, casual nexus as an element of civil structure of damages) does have its own significance

    Hamiltonian cycles in symmetric graphs.

Let k be a positive integer. We define M[subscript]k to be the graph with a vertex set consisting of all binary strings of length 2k + 1 which have either k or k + 1 ones and edge set consisting of all pairs of these binary strings which differ in exactly one bit. Showing that the graph M[subscript]k is Hamiltonian for all k is known as the Middle Levels problem. This problem was first posed in the early 1980's and to this day remains unsolved. In this thesis we explore the symmetries of M[subscript]k and graphs related to it. We then use these symmetries to propose a method for finding Hamiltonian cycles in M[subscript]k when 2k + 1 and k are prime. We believe that our method is more efficient than methods proposed by previous authors. The original print copy of this thesis may be available here: http://wizard.unbc.ca/record=b159865

From the convention of the report to the artistic metaphor of time – the novel „Roof” Georgi Markov

Wartością dodaną jest zderzenie perspektyw badawczych w odniesieniu do różnych kręgów kulturowych (hiszpański, latynoamerykański, francuski, bułgarski, polski, amerykański, angielski, germański, klasyczny, włoski). Takie ujęcie prowadzi do wieloaspektowej problematyzacji niezwykle aktualnego wymiaru współczesnej kultury. Proposed in this article analysis of the novel „Roof ” Georgi Markov’s emphasized the ratio of facts to fiction, including its construction in the context of historical events of the communist past of Bulgaria. Well known „Extramural reports” this author is a convincing example of modern journalism association of artistic literature, confirm the oscillation elements genre, and refer to the truth about the totalitarian state, which found its expression in the characters of the novel. The study brings strategy literary Markov extratextual combining reality with artistic dystopia of the time and reveals how the convention fiction to artistic discourse track
