Lola's War ::Rape Without Punishment /
"This book is an important contribution to transitional justice scholarship. In a sensitive manner, it reminds readers of the need to listen to the everyday stories of survivors of violence. The accounts of one woman's loss and personal heartache in a search for justice, are moving." - Professor Elisabeth Porter, University of South Australia, Australia "Beautifully written, deep, reflective and thoughtful, Olivera Simic's new book takes the reader on an intimate and up-close journey for justice of a wartime sexual violence survivor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The life story of Lola is a rich and detailed story of a woman showcasing lived experiences and consequences of searching for justice in the aftermath of atrocities, which are often inadvertent and unpredictable. It is filled with hopes, disappointments, traumas but also resilience and empowerment. It is an absolute must read for everyone engaged and interested in post-conflict transitional justice." - Associate Professor Barbora Hola, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Senior Researcher, Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) "Lola's War makes me think, makes me think hard thoughts. And because Lola herself is so wonderfully portrayed here, one cannot escape the hard thinking - about gendered war, about violence against women, about personal sovereignty, about justice. Olivera Simic has done us all a great service by challenging us, while never betraying Lola's integrity." - Professor Cynthia Enloe, author of Twelve Feminist Lessons of War This longitudinal study is based on the story of Lola, who was gang raped during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. At the time, she was in a detention camp with her young children. Only one of Lola's several perpetrators was convicted but his sentence of six years of imprisonment has never been actioned by the Bosnian judiciary. Lola's rapist is still free and she lives in continual fear that he will retaliate against her and her children for her role in his trial. Mechanism and dynamics of acyl-CoA mediated protein lysine acylation in mitochondria
Mitochondria represent cellular organelles with a high level of acetylated proteins in comparison to other cellular compartments but mitochondrial residential lysine acetyltransferases have not been recognized. Here we show that acetylation, as well as other acylations are spontaneous processes that depend on pH value, acyl-CoA concentration and the chemical nature of the acyl residue. In the case of short peptide substrate derived from carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1, dicarboxylic acyl groups show highest level of reactivity. Reactivities of the CoA-thioesters decrease with extending the acyl chain. These results were confirmed by using the protein substrate cyclophilin A. Deacylation experiments revealed that SIRT3 exhibits deacetylase activity but is not able to remove any of the succinyl group from cyclophilinA, whereas SIRT5 is an efficient protein desuccinylase. Considering that we have not found convincing evidence about existence of mitochondrial lysine acetyltransferase so far, it leads to conclusion that acylation landscape on the lysine residues might largely depend on the enzymatic activities of sirtuins and availability and/or reactivity of certain acyl-CoA thioesters.vorgelegt von Zeljko Simi
Assessing drive tourists' preferences and motivations: A case study of Bella Coola, British Columbia
The objectives of this research were to: 1) Gain an understanding of the drive tourism market in the Bella Coola Valley and particularly visitors’ characteristics, length of stay, and behaviour whilst in the valley. This would be done by implementing a quantitative self completed survey. 2) Trial a qualitative research tool which will seek to explore the psychographic profiles of the RV market. This research tool would consist of in-depth, open ended interviews and focus groups.Final Report of Findings. -- Prepared by Dr. Anne Hardy and Jovan Simic, Resource Recreation and Tourism Program, University of Northern British Columbia, for: BC Ferries, Central Coast Regional District, Bella Coola Valley Tourism, BC Real Estate Partnering Fun

This is a rare type of book that interweaves personal narrative with critical commentary on violent conflict and the possibilities of peace. The author, while reflective and mindful of her narrative, does not shy away from the bite of reality. As she says in the introduction:Full Tex
Myth Revisited in The World Doesn’t End, by Charles Simic
This article analyzes Serbian-American author Charles Simic’s prose poems in The World Doesn’t End.The book shows two traits which help transmit Simic’s view of the world: on the one hand, his surrealistic imagery and, on the other, a certain nostalgia for the past as a time that can be recovered through the imagination. The World Doesn’t End was first published in the U.S.A. In 1990, and later translated into Spanish by Mario Lucarda, in Spain. The poems in this book can be found in Argentina only partially, in some journals and magazines. That is why at the end
of this article there is a brief selection with translations of our own, in order to make Simic’s poetry accessible to Argentine readers, who will gain further insight into the multiple voices of contemporary American poetry.Fil: Raggio, Marcela.

The challenge of ‘COVID-19 free’ Australia: international travel restrictions and stranded citizens
This paper uses Australia as a case study to analyse restrictions on international movement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions on inbound and outbound travel have been a key tool deployed by governments across the globe to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic. We use ‘COVID zero’ Australia as a case study to assess an extreme response to restricting international movement. We look at the recent complaint launched before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The action was raised with the support of a group of Australian citizens stranded abroad with the assistance of the expert in Australian constitutional law who is the second author of this paper. We argue that the measures implemented by Australian governments to effectively eliminate COVID-19 domestically have provided insufficient consideration of, and alternatives to, the current system’s failure to facilitate essential international travel. For this reason, Australia’s framework for restricting international movement lacks proportionality and necessity from the perspective of human rights and freedoms
Suzbijanje korova i prinos zrna u postrnom usevu soje
The effects of different herbicide combinations: control (1), alachlor+linuron (2), and
alachlor+linuron+imazethapyr (3) were investigated in double-cropped soybean grown in
two row spacing variants, 38 cm and 76 cm, under conventional tillage (CT) or no-tillage
(NT). In trials conducted on a sandy loam soil at Zemun Polje, high weediness had a negative
effect of on the yield of double-cropped soybean, especially at the higher row spacing
tested and with no-tillage.
Regression and correlation data revealed a dependence of weediness in double-cropped
soybean on tillage system and herbicide combination, and dependence of soybean
yield on tillage system.U radu su prikazani rezultati uticaja primene različitih kombinacija herbicida: kontrola
(1); alahlor+linuron (2); alahlor+linuron+imazetapir (3); u postrnom usevu soje gajenom na
dva međuredna rastojanja: 38 cm; 76 cm; u konvencionalnom sistemu obrade (CT) i u direktnoj
setvi (NT).
