Attitudes of adolescents and emerging adults toward people living with HIV – qualitative study
The aim of this study is to obtain a better understanding of attitudes toward HIV people from perspective of adolescents and emerging adults in Kosova. In order to examine and analyze attitudes, we have used qualitative methods as main methodological approach. In total there were four focus groups that were organized with two target groups: adolescents and emerging adults. Seven to eight subjects were part of each focus group. Thematic analysis was used to analyse focus group transcripts. Result of the study showed that attitudes of subjects towards people living with HIV were tolerant and positive. Emerging adults and female subjects tend to have more positive attitudes towards HIV people, compared with adolescents and male subjects
Challenges faced by people living with HIV and AIDS in Kosovo: qualitative analyses
The aim of the paper is to investigate challenges faced by people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in Kosovo. The main goal is to analyze some psycho-social aspects of people living with HIV and AIDS such as: disclosure of HIV status, HIV related stigma, adherence, socioeconomic issues, etc. Qualitative methods were used to examine the experiences of PLWHA. Six focus group discussions were conducted with 49 HIV-positive participants and 10 key informants involved in working with PLWHA were interviewed. AIDS-related stigma was perceived as pervasive by the participants. This was associated with the difficulty of disclosure of PLWHA status due to the fear of rejection by family members or community. Also, prominent was the fact that PLWHA considered that their HIV and AIDS status is seen as secondary comparing to the daily life stressors such as poverty, unemployment and other problems with constant provision of antiretroviral therapy (ART)
Adolescents’ attitudes towards people living with HIV and AIDS in Kosova
The aim of this paper is to examine attitudes towards people living with HIV in correlation with socio-cultural aspects among adolescents in Kosovo. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a sample of 384 adolescents in Kosova. Adolescents from 13 to 18 years old were part of the survey. A self-administered and self-reporting questionnaire were used to gather data. Most of the items in the questionnaire were adaptations of the items based on the WHO AIDS program regarding knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices (KABP) whereas some specific items were developed intentionally by the researcher for purpose of this study. Attitudes of subjects towards PLWHA were acceptable and tolerant. Female subjects have more tolerant attitudes towards HIV people compared with male subjects. At the other hand, subjects tend to relate HIV with specific groups and show more negative attitudes towards these groups, such as LGBT community
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Risk Perception of HIV and AIDS among Adolescents and Emerging Adults: Qualitative Analyses
The aim of this study is to obtain a better understanding of risk perception about HIV and AIDS among adolescents and emerging adults in Kosova. Qualitative methods were used to examine the risk perception of HIV and AIDS. In total there were four focus groups that were organized from two target groups: adolescents and emerging adults. Seven to eight subjects were part of each focus group. Thematic analysis was used as a method for the analysis of focus group transcripts. Result showed that male perceive more the risk of getting infected with HIV and AIDS compared with female. Therefore, the perception of risk towards HIV and AIDS in both targeted groups, adolescent and emerging adults, is low
Nurse-patient communication in healthcare settings
This research study objective was to obtain information on the impressions and opinions of patients and nursing staff regarding the communication patterns during the Covid-19 pandemic and as well as in common situations. The study has been conducted in city of Vitia (Family Medical Centers) and in Gjilan (The Regional Hospital of Gjilan). We have used the quantitative method as the main methodological approach in two parts of the research. The first part of research included 57 patients, 36 females and 21 males, who self-administered questionnaire. While, the second part of research included 49 nurses, 40 were females and 9 males. The results showed that 67% of patients declared that they are very interested in communicating with the nursing staff about their health condition and 47% trusted their nurses. Also, 28% of patients declared that it has been more difficult to communicate during Covid-19. Whereas, the results of the second research showed that successful communication with patients brings satisfaction to the nurse’s work
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
