Concern and action. Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and West Pomerania
Get PDFWhile analysing the attitude of Primate of Poland Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński to West Pomerania, we may enumerate three basic aspects. Firstly, the role which Cardinal played by fulfilling the post of the ordinary of the ordinariate of Gorzów. He was then interested, among others, in the provision of the continuity of management in this territory. Secondly, mainly thanks to his efforts and involvement of bishops of Gorzów, they succeeded in 1972 in dividing the big apostolic administration of Gorzów into three smaller dioceses. Thirdly, the issue concerning the relation with the Christians from West Pomerania is equally significant. Primate was very frequently visiting this region. In the opinion of the author of the article, the words “Concern and action” reflect best his interest in the fate of the Christians, who appeared after the war in the so-called Regained Lands.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textInstytut Pamięci Narodowej znany jest z bogatej oferty wydawniczej. Wśród wielu pozycji książkowych poczytne miejsce zajmują te związane z historią Kościoła w okresie PRL. Podobnie jest w szczecińskim Oddziale IPN, który funkcjonuje od 2005 roku. Wcześniej był delegaturą IPN Oddział w Poznaniu. Gdy w 2015 roku cały IPN świętował 15-lecie działalności, w Szczecinie obchodzono jubileusz 10-lecia. Jak zwykle przy takich okazjach dokonuje się różnego rodzaju podsumowań. Jednym z nich była analiza dotychczasowego stanu badań nad historią Kościoła katolickiego na Pomorzu Zachodnim i przedstawienie dorobku pracowników IPN w Szczecinie w tym zakresie. Dzięki ich dużemu zaangażowaniu i pracowitości zachodniopomorska historiografia Kościoła powiększyła się o wartościowe monografie, prace zbiorowe, publikacje źródłowe, albumy, materiały edukacyjne. Jest to dorobek widoczny, który w przedstawionym artykule został poddany ogólnej charakterystyce. Zasadniczy wniosek, jaki nasuwa się po analizie dorobku pracowników IPN, jest taki, że w każdym roku kalendarzowym pojawiała się nowa publikacja na temat historii Kościoła na Pomorzu Zachodnim. W przyszłości planowane są następne publikacje, które z pewnością w znacznym stopniu przyczynią się do lepszego poznania dziejów Kościoła na Pomorzu ZachodnimInstitute of National Remembrance is known for its wide range of publishing. Among the many books, those related to the history of the Church in the communist period, occupy a prominent place.It is similarly in Szczecin’s Branch of Institute of National Remembrance (former delegacy of the Branch in Poznań), which is operating since 2005. When in 2015 Institute of National Remembrance celebrated the 15th anniversary of activity in Poland, it also celebrated its 10th anniversary in Szczecin. As usual on such occasions, it is opportunity for making summary. One of them was to analyze the current state of research on the history of the Catholic Church in Western Pomerania and present achievements of employees Institute of National Remembrance in Szczecin in this field. Thanks to their great commitment and diligence West Pomeranian historiography of the Church increased by valuable monographs, collective works, source publications, educational materials, and other books. These are visible achievements, which in the article has been subjected to general characteristics. The basic request to be drawn after analyzing the achievements of employees IPN is that in each calendar year, appeared new publication about the history of the Church in Western Pomerania. Other publications will be created in future, for better understanding of the history of the Church in Western Pomerania
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Visits of Primate Józef Glemp to West Pomerania
No full textBefore Father Józef Glemp took the office of the Primate in 1981, he had ac-companied Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in his visits to Western Pomerania, serving as the secretary of the Primate. Father Glemp was in Szczecin, among others, in 1966 and 1974. As Primate of Poland, he visited West Pomerania in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. He took part in the celebrations of the 10th Anniversary of the diocese of Szczecin and Kamień Pomorski and the diocese of Koszalin and Koło-brzeg. He was present during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the es-tablishment of a new ecclesiastical administration in the Western Lands. Primate Glemp also accompanied Pope John Paul II during his pilgrimage to Poland in 1987. Pope arrived in Szczecin on 11 June. After the fall of the PRL, Primate Józef Glemp also o>en visited the West Pomeranian land. For example, he was present during the next pilgrimage of John Paul II to Poland in 1991. The Pope then came, inter alia, to Koszalin.Compared to his two great predecessors, cardinals: August Hlond and Stefan Wyszyński; Cardinal J. Glemp was able to make a summary of what had happened in Western Pomerania since the end of World War II. That is why in his speeches he appreciated the activities of clergy and lay people for the reconstruc-tion of the war-damaged region and the development of religious life in this area. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
