The right to repair: How to design new laws
To complement a recent article in this journal examining the shortcomings of New Zealand law (see Zaw, Win Thandar, 'The right to repair', NZLJ (June 2022), pages 164-168) this article examines what reforms should be undertaken to enable right to repair measures. The aim of this article is to determine how to design a new right to repair law in New Zealand, alongside a discussion of overseas approaches. Ideally, a right to repair law would require manufacturers to provide spare parts, diagnostic information and repair tools. To implement a right to repair law in New Zealand, this article suggests possible amendments to different areas of law such as consumer law, intellectual property laws and the law of contract
Relationship Marketing Practices and Customer Loyalty at Young Insurance in Yangon (Kyaw Zaw Win, 2025)
This study investigates the effect of relationship marketing practices on customer
loyalty at Young Insurance Co., Ltd. in Yangon, Myanmar. Focusing specifically on
motor vehicle insurance policyholders during the 2023–2024 period, the research aims to
identify how key relationship marketing dimensions trust, commitment, communication,
competence, and conflict handling influence customers' long-term loyalty. A structured
questionnaire was distributed to 301 policyholders using a five-point Likert scale, and the
data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The
findings reveal that all five dimensions have a significant and positive impact on
customer loyalty, with conflict handling emerging as the most influential factor, followed
by competence and commitment. The model demonstrated a high explanatory power,
with an adjusted R-squared value of 0.807, indicating that relationship marketing
practices collectively account for over 80% of the variance in customer loyalty. The study
recommends that Young Insurance strengthen its conflict resolution strategies, maintain
clear communication, and foster long-term customer engagement to enhance loyalty.
These insights offer practical implications for insurance service providers seeking to
retain customers in a competitive market. Future research may benefit from including
other types of insurance products and exploring longitudinal data to assess long-term
loyalty trends
FACTOR ANALYSIS OF IMPACT OF SMARTPHONE ON USERS (CASE STUDY IN AHLONE TOWNSHIP) (Myat Zaw Win, 2020)
Mobile smartphones had improved communication in society via the social media. Most of the smartphone users face were locked on the smartphone screen. That was a significant challenge for the positive and negative impacts. The study focuses on identifying different dynamic factors among the impacts on smartphone users with age group between 15 to 49 years at Ahlone Township. In this study, a two-stage random sampling was used to obtain the sample respondents. A face to face interviewing method, was applied to collect data from 356 respondents at randomly selected wards. The interview questions were constructed by a five-point Likert scale and offline data collection tools (KoBoToolbox) was used. According to factor analysis, it was found that the main impact of smartphones are “Social”, “Health”, “Communication and Emotional”, “Addiction” and “Negative Impact”. Although almost all the respondents suffer from health-related symptoms, two symptoms namely Tinnitus and Occiput pain were associated with frequent usage to the smartphone. Moreover, the study recommended to provide health knowledge and educational awareness to the public. Further researches on identified factors, using other models are be recommended

Influence of Serviciescape on Customer Satisfaction and Repatronage Intention Towards the Rock by Color Stones Restaurant (Zaw Win Htut, 2022)
The main purposes of this study are to examine the effect of servicescape factors on customer satisfaction towards The Rock by Color Stones Restaurant and to analyze the effect of customer satisfaction on repatronage intention towards The Rock by Color Stones Restaurant. Both primary and secondary data are used in this study. Systematic random sampling method is used to conduct personal interview with every 5th coming customer into the restaurant. Data Collection period is from 1st November to 30th November (3 days a week: Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in 2022. Structured questionnaire with 5-point Likert scale is applied for primary data collection. All four servicescape factors namely ambient conditions, spatial layout and functionality, signs, symbols and artefacts, and facility cleanliness have a strong positive effect on customer satisfaction. Among them, ambient conditions is the most effective factor on customer satisfaction. Findings indicate that customer satisfaction has a positive effect on repatronage intention of customers. The Rock by Color Stones Restaurant should be applied an effective kitchen exhaust filtration system based upon molecular filtration and the Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) scent diffuser. To improve spatial layout and functionality, the fine dining should accommodate 20 square feet per person by taking into account space needed for traffic aisles, wait stations, cashier, etc. Illuminated signs from the wall or ceiling should also be hanged for directing customers to the bar, exit, rest rooms or the checkout counter. The Rock by Color Stones Restaurant should always ensure to clean and sanitize a work area before closing the restaurant and before starting to prepare food to preventing foodborne illness. Finally, the restaurant management of The Rock by Color Stones Restaurant should focus the servicescape of other restaurants in order to attract more customers and retain loyal customers
THE EFFECT OF FRANCHISOR INPUTS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FRANCHISEES IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY (Zaw Win Latt, 2019)
The main intention of this survey is to examine the effect of franchisor inputs on the
performance of the franchisees in the food and beverage industry, which is one of the most
significant business and popular recently in Myanmar. In this study, 57 respondents of the
franchisees work as owners, general managers, and branch managers in Yangon surveyed by
using structured questions. This study found that franchisees from the food and beverage
industry are also positively satisfied with franchisor inputs. On brand value, training &
knowledge transfer, operational support, communication & feedback, contractual integrity,
and trust and financial supports in each different level and immediate results of the inputs as
well as the expected results in the future. Moreover, most of the franchisees are having very
high positive effect satisfaction related to operational support. Based on these results, it
concluded that increasing the inputs of franchisor performance to the franchisee engagement,
although growing support practices impact the relationships for franchisees. Improving
dedication relationships displays franchisees' achievements that have evolved to be a highly
effective franchising system. The current franchising system kept being created like a
successful business efficiently
Automatic Attendance System Using Speaker Recognition
The main aim of this paper is to develop automatic attendance system using speaker recognition technique. The proposed system is software architecture which allows the user to access the system by making an utterance from microphone and the attendance of corresponding user is marked in the Microsoft Office Excel. The proposed system automates the whole process of taking attendance. The system uses text dependent open set speaker identification with MFCC features and vector quantization based speaker modeling for authenticating the user. A simple Euclidean distance scoring is used as the classifier. For decision making, the new approach, mean value threshold is proposed to optimize the system performance. The database consists of 60 speech samples which were collected from 20 speakers consisting of 10 male speakers and 10 female speakers. The experimental study shows that the proposed system with mean value threshold achieves better results in recognition accuracy and verification performance than the system with other threshold setting. Geophysical investigation using resistivity and GPR: A case study of an oil spill site at Seberang Prai, Penang
Subsurface contamination by light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) is one of the most pressing environmental issues in the industrialized and developing world. Non-invasive geophysical techniques have proven to be effective in identifying contaminated areas. In this study, a 2D electrical resistivity imaging and ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey has been carried out at a site to investigate the nature and extent of an oil spill into sandy soil and groundwater from old transformersat an abandoned power station. Hand-augered boreholes revealed that the water level was at 1.5 m and shallower towards the coastline, which is about 100 m from the site. The presence of several oil plumes were detected at the top of the water table in 2D resistivity sections as a zone of high resistivity with values ranging from 450 to 1000 ?m. The low resistivity zones below the water table are interpreted as saline water. In the GPR section, the oil contaminated layer exhibits discontinuous, shadow and chaotic high amplitude patterns
