Efisiensi tingkat konsumsi pakan perlakuan penambahan Ca(OH)2  sebanyak 30 mg/L lebih tinggi dibanding perlakuan penambahan Ca(OH)2 sebanyak 0 dan 60 mg/L.This research was aimed to study the effect of calcium addition into culture media in order to increase husk calcium and food consumption and its consequences to prawn growth. Research phase 1 consisted of treatments of Ca(OH)2 addition i.e. 0 mg/L, 15 mg/L, 30 mg/L, 45 mg/L, and 60 mg/L, with 3 replications for all  treatments. Research phase 2 consisted of treatments of calcium addition of 0 mg/L, 30 mg/L, and 60 mg/L. The measured parameters were the rate of husk calcium, feed consumption rate,  growth rate, and feed conversion ratio. The Ca (OH)2 addition was 15-60 mg/L to increase calcium concentration in the media (25.51-35.22 mg/L) compared to the control (18.53 mg/L). Result of the research indicated that the usage of calcium Ca(OH)2 of 30 mg/L can accelerate the calsium deposition in prawn husk. Acceleration of calsium deposition has direct implication to the increase of FCR and thus it increases prawn growth rate. Application of calcium Ca(OH)2 addition of 15-30 mg/L to accelerate molting process has positive effect on the growth rate of prawn. Daily food consumption rate started to increase with the addition of 15 mg/L of Ca(OH)2, and the highest was reached at the concentration of 45 mg/L Ca(OH)2. Growth rate of prawn biomass in culture media added with 30 and 60 mg/L of Ca(OH)2 were significantly different (P<0.05). Better food consumption efficiency levels were achieved by the treatment of Ca(OH)2 addition of 30 mg/L compared to the other treatments

Biofloc technique is a method of fish culture using minimal water exchange and microbial aggregates formed within the culture media as fish supplementary feed. Biofloc as a protein source is currently not being considered part of the feeding dosage in catfish culture. This present work aimed to determine the effects of commercial feed reduction on growth performance, water quality, and hematology of catfish cultured in biofloc ponds. Fish with an average body weight of 7.53 ± 0.47 g were stocked in nine ponds with a stocking density of 100 fish/pond and reared for nine weeks. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design, with the following treatments: full feed + non-biofloc (C100) as control; 10% less feed + biofloc (B90); 20% less feed + biofloc (B80). As such, the total feed doses given daily per each treatment fish biomass were: 5% for C100, 4.5% for B90, and 4.0% for B80. Each treatment was arranged in triplicates. The results showed that all water quality parameters (dissolved oxygen, pH, TAN, and nitrite) and biofloc concentrations did not differ significantly among the treatments (P>0.05). Specific growth rate, survival rate, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio of the fish were also not significantly different (P>0.05). The weight gain of biofloc-treated fish in B90 and B80 reached 2.71% and 12.65%, respectively; which were higher than the control treatment during the treatment period. The feed conversion ratios of B90 and B80 were 14.39% and 7.58%, respectively; lower than the control treatment. The biofloc treatment did not adversely alter the fish’s blood cell profiles. This study revealed that feed reduction did not affect water quality in the ponds and blood cell profiles of the fish. Moreover, fish in the biofloc-treated ponds had higher weight gain and lower food conversion ratios compared to fish cultured in the non-treated biofloc ponds. This study suggests that using the biofloc system in catfish rearing can reduce the use of feed up to 10%-20% with similar biomass yield compared to the non-biofloc system

Daphnia magna is one of the live feeds used in aquaculture, but its availability is still limited. The population and nutritional quality of D. magna culture depend on the nutritional quality of feed where the feed source is commonly used from agricultural by-products. In contrast, pelleted feed as a source of nutrition in D. magna culture is still limited. Evaluation of commercial pelleted feeds with different protein levels and dietary protein requirements of D. magna is the focus of this research. Three treatments with different protein levels of feed with protein levels of 17.83% (P20), 32.35% (P30) and 41.98% (P40) and rice bran as control at a protein level of 8.2% (P10) with five replications for 28 days of rearing with using a completely randomized design. The average weekly population and the highest total biomass of D. magna were obtained from D. magna fed the P30 (Protein 32.35%) of 7,575 ind. tank-1. week-1 and total biomass of 290.26 g.m-3 with the feed conversion ratio of 3.85 ± 0.75 and protein efficiency ratio of 0.83 ± 0.14. The highest protein value of D. magna was obtained from D. magna fed the P30 of 3.02% ± 0.20 wet weight. The results showed that feed with a protein content of 32.35% (P30) showed the best results for cultivating D. magna. The estimated dietary protein requirement of feed for D. magna cultivation using the second polynomial regression analysis of feed protein - population and biomass is 38.8%

Biofloc provide two services, treating wastes from feeding and providing nutrtion from biofloc consumption.  Information of biofloc nutrtion were very rare. . The present study aimed to analyze the effects of feeding rate on water quality and growth performance of African catfish reared under a biofloc system. The experiment  a completely randomized design, which  4 treatments, namely biofloc with 5% feeding rate (B5), biofloc with 4% feeding rate (B4), biofloc with 3% feeding rate (B3), and non-biofloc with 5% feeding rate (N5) as a control. All treatments were triplicated. The results showed that dissolved oxygen and nitrite levels between groups differed significantly, but this did not occur for total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), Temperature and pH.  Biofloc consumption B5, B4, B3 were higher than N5. Compared to N5, specific growth rate, final weight, and weight gain were significantly different and higher in B5, different and lower in B3, but not significantly different in B4.  Feed convertion ratio (FCR)  in B5 and B4 have lower than N5. Based on the results, the feeding rate in a biofloc system is concluded to be reduced by 20% compared to non-biofloc.</p

Daphnia magna as a live feed in the maintenance of striped catfish larvae in the form of frozen feed is still limited. Evaluation of the production performance of striped catfish larvae using live feed D. magna in both live and frozen compared with feeding Tubifex became the objective of this research activity. The experimental design used feed treatment with Tubifex (P1) as a control, live D. magna (P2), and frozen D. magna (P3) with four experimental replications for 15 days of rearing using a completely randomized design. Twelve aquariums with a water volume of 150 L were used in the experiment. Striped catfish larvae (1.5 cm TL), as many as 9 fish/L were stocked in each aerated aquarium. The amount of feed given was 15% of the weight of fish biomass with a frequency of 4 times a day and increased every day by 10% from the total feed of the first day. Results of the experiment showed different feeding significantly affected absolute length growth, total biomass, and feed conversion, with the best treatment being Tubifex (P1) with values of 0.6 ± 0.02 cm, 83.93 ± 5.99 g, and 1.31, respectively. The best growth rate of weight and length were obtained on larvae fed Tubifex (P1). The best protein efficiency and retention ratio resulted from frozen D. magna feed (P3) treatment of 12.45 and 7.11%, respectively. Live and frozen D. magna was not significantly different, so frozen D. magna feed can be used as an alternative natural feed with a high level of availability
