    Engineering of heralded narrowband color-entangled states

    The efficient generation of entanglement is an essential requirement for quantum communications; however, long distances can only be achieved by utilizing entangled states that can be efficiently mapped into matter. Hence, sources generating states with bandwidths naturally compatible with the linewidths of atomic transitions are crucial. We harness the indistinguishability between two spontaneous four-wave mixing processes to achieve the heralded generation of single-photon frequency-bin entangled states. State manipulation admits entanglement and generation probability optimizations yet with negligible absorption. The scheme could also be adapted to photonic and solid interfaces

    The Chimney/Periscope Technique as Total Endovascular Treatment of Kommerell's Diverticulum

    We report a case of Kommerell's diverticulum (KD) treated with a total endovascular approach, maintaining supra-aortic trunk (SAT) patency. A 75 year-old female with aneurysmal KD was deemed unsuitable for open surgery. Landing zone 2 was unfeasible; therefore, we planned an endovascular approach with landing in zone 1, chimney to left subclavian artery and periscope to right subclavian artery. Postoperatively she was free from complications, with complete exclusion of KD and SAT patency at 3-year follow-up

    Composite materials usage in several industrial fields is now widespread, and this leads to the necessity of overcoming issues that are still currently open. In the aeronautic industry, this is especially true for Barely Visible Impact Damage (BVID) and humidity uptake issues. BVID is the most insidious kind of impact damage, being rather common and not easily detectable. These, along with the ageing that a composite structure could face during its operative life, could be a cause of fatal failures. In this paper, the influence of water absorption on impacted specimens compressive residual strength was studied. Specimens were impacted using a modified Charpy pendulum. Two different locations were chosen for comparison: Near-Edge (NE) and Central (CI). Accelerated hygrothermal ageing was conducted on impacted and reference nonimpacted coupons, placing them in a water-filled jar at 70◦C. Compressive tests were performed in accordance with the Combined Loading Compression (CLC) test method. A Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) was performed as well. The results showed the influence of hygrothermal ageing, as expected. Nevertheless, the influence of impact location on compressive residual strength is not clearly noticeable in aged specimens, leading to the conclusion that hygrothermal ageing may have a greater effect on composite compressive strength than the analysed BVI damage

    Experimental quantum tomography of a homodyne detector

    We suggest and demonstrate a tomographic method to characterise homodyne detectors at the quantum level. The positive operator measure associated with the detector is expanded in a quadrature basis and probed with a set of coherent states. The coefficients of the expansion are then retrieved using a least squares algorithm. Our model is general enough to describe different implementations of the homodyne setup, and it has proven capable of effectively describing the detector response to different tomographic sets. We validate the reconstructed operator measure on nonclassical states and exploit results to estimate the overall quantum efficiency of the detector

    Indagine sulla diffusione di V. cholerae, V. vulnificus e V. parahaemolyticus, in molluschi bivalvi dell’Adriatico e proposta di un protocollo analitico

    Bivalve molluscs from Adriatic sea were analyzed for V. parahaemolyticus, V. cholerae e V. vulnificus presence. The isolates on TCBS Agar and m-CPC Agar were selected on the basis of a new biochemical screening, that showed a good performance, because among 2344 strains from primary culture only 237 (10%) were presumptively assigned to the species of interest. The PCR analyses was performed for the target genes toxR hlyA, ctxA, tcpI (V. cholerae), toxR, tl, tdh, trh (V. parahaemolyticus), vvhA and viuB (V. vulnificus). Among the 9 strains confirmed to belong to V. parahaemolyticus specie, 6 were sucrose positive. On 215 samples of molluscs only 5 resulted positive for V. parahaemolyticus being toxR+, tl+, although non pathogenic (tdh-, trh-), and none for V. cholerae e V. vulnificus
