PhDr. Z hlediska genderové perspektivy nás bude zajímat její psychologický profil vzhledem k jiným postavám, a především otázka její intimity a vztahu k jiném pohlaví. Cílem práce bude prozkoumat pozici ženy, respektive její emancipaci. Dalším cílem bude představit vnitřní svět ženy a její zkušenost s patriarchálním světem. Water is a basic human need, yet millions of people around the world do not have enough access to clean water. There are many claims on the world's water supply, from agriculture and industry to drinking water, municipal uses and tourism. It is a global issue, and everyone must share what is available. However, in some places, water is exceptionally scarce and people are extracting it faster than it can be replenished. Sixty-three percent of the world's population that has no access to clean water lives in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. By 2025 most of the Middle East countries are expected to experience water stress or scarcity. Jordan represents a typically water constrained economy that is daily confronted with decisions on its water use. With a fast growing population and an expanding agricultural sector, the demand for alternatives of fresh water resources remains imminent. An important strategy for the Jordanian government is to meet the water demand for agricultural sector by producing more treated wastewater. Treated wastewater generated in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) is an important component of Jordan's water resources. In Jordan there are 23 wastewater treatment plants treating approx. 100 million m3/year of wastewater in different type of treatment systems. The systems are divided into trickling filters, activated sludge and waste stabilization ponds. Most of the WWTP are small, except for the plant as As-Samra, which treats more than 80% of this quantity. The new As-Samra WWTP is using the activated sludge process with nutrient removal and chlorine for disinfection. In this study, characteristics of wastewater for WWTP As-Samra were determined. Characterization of wastewater was evaluated in terms of measuring chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), total suspended solids (TSS), for the influent and effluent from the plants. The performance of the wastewater treatment plants was evaluated and the quality of the reclaimed wastewater was compared with Jordanian Standards to determine its suitability for reuse.

Title: Influence of Spherical and Cylindrical Capsules on Pressure Transients in Hydraulic Pipelines, Author: Rajbir S. Samra, Location: ThodeThe influence of capsules on pressure transients in hydraulic pipelines has been reported in this dissertation. This experimental investigation was carried out for flow velocities of 1 to 4 ft/sec. for both cylindrical and spherical capsules. Shock waves were generated by a fast closing valve in a 1 in. diameter pipe and pressure transients were measured for a train of cylindrical capsules of diameter 0.875 in. and 0.95 in. The spherical capsules were of diameter 0.75 in. and 0.875 in. A theoretical analysis for this type of waterhammer problem using a perturbation technique has been obtained. The theoretical solution was found to be in agreement with the experimental observations for cylindrical capsules.ThesisMaster of Engineering (ME

Resilience and Agency in Samra Habib's We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir

    No full text
The interconnection between vulnerability, resilience, and agency will be used as a critical framework for the study of Samra Habib’s We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir. More specifically, this chapter will examine the mechanisms developed by the author to subvert the social norms and oppressive traditional structures that force many women in Pakistan to behave according to prescribed social and cultural norms. In doing so, this chapter attempts to highlight the agency of many women who break silence and contest their roles in society in order to overcome their position as vulnerable victims, regain their agency and finally reconstruct their own identities. Finally, this chapter questions and denounces the normative framework that denies the existence of some gender identities categorized as non-normative

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Enucleation Versus Standardized Resection for Small Pancreatic Lesions

Background: The appropriate surgical strategy in patients with small pancreatic lesions of low malignant potential, such as pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, remains unknown. Increasing reports suggest limited pancreatic surgery may be a safe option for parenchymal preservation. Methods: PubMed and MEDLINE were searched in the English literature for studies from January 2000 to February 2015 examining enucleation for pancreatic lesions that were single-arm and comparative studies (versus resection). Single-arm enucleation studies were systematically reviewed. Comparative studies were included for meta-analysis. Endpoints include safety, complications, mortality, survival, and parenchymal-related outcomes. Results: Thirteen studies comprising of 1101 patients undergoing enucleation were included. Seven studies were comparative studies of enucleation and standardized pancreatic resection. Enucleation was a shorter procedure (pooled mean differences (MD) = 109, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 105–114; Z = 46.37; P < 0.001) associated with less blood loss (pooled MD = 314, 95 % CI 297–330; Z = 37.47; P < 0.001). Both enucleation and resection had similar mortality and complication rates, but the rate of pancreatic fistula (all grades) (pooled odds ratio (OR) = 1.99; 95 % CI 1.2–3.4; Z = 2.57; P = 0.01] and rate of pancreatic fistula (grade B/C) (pooled OR = 1.58; 95 % CI 1.0–2.5; Z = 2.06; P = 0.04) was higher in the enucleation group. Enucleation resulted in lower rates of endocrine (pooled OR = 0.22; 95 % CI 0.1–0.5; Z = 3.21; P = 0.001) and exocrine (pooled OR = 0.07; 95 % CI 0.02–0.2; Z = 5.08; P < 0.001) insufficiency. The median 5-year survival was 95 % (range 93–98) and 84 % (range 79–90). Conclusions: Enucleation appears to be a safe procedure and achieves parenchymal preservation for small pancreatic lesions of low malignant potential. Its oncologic efficacy compared with standardized pancreatic resection with respect to long-term survival and recurrences have not been reported adequately and hence may not be concluded as being comparable. No Full Tex

Application of remote sensing and GIS for modeling and assessment of land use/cover change in Amman/Jordan

Modeling and assessment of land use/cover and its impacts play a crucial role in land use planning and formulation of sustainable land use policies. In this study, remote sensing data were used within geographic information system (GIS) to map and predict land use/cover changes near Amman, where half of Jordan's population is living. Images of Landsat TM, ETM+ and OLI were processed and visually interpreted to derive land use/cover for the years 1983, 1989, 1994, 1998, 2003 and 2013. The output maps were analyzed using GIS and cross-tabulated to quantify land use/cover changes for the different periods. The main changes that altered the character of land use/cover in the area were the expansion of urban areas and the recession of forests, agricultural areas (after 1998) and rangelands. The Markov Chain was used to predict future land use/cover, based on the historical changes during 1983-2013. Results showed that prediction of land use/cover would depend on the time interval of the multi-temporal satellite imagery from which the probability of change was derived. The error of prediction was in the range of 2% - 5%, with more accurate prediction for urbanization and less accurate prediction for agricultural areas. The trends of land use/cover change showed that urban areas would expand at the expense of agricultural land and would form 33% of the study area (50km x 60km) by year 2043. The impact of these land use/cover changes would be the increased water demand and wastewater generation in the future

Objective: To identify whether pressures associated with acculturation are related to suicide ideation. Method: We assessed 1135 undergraduates, using suicide measures and the Vancouver Index of Acculturation. Results and Conclusions: Suicide ideation, plans, and attempts did not vary by generation level or with mainstream acculturation for any of the ethnic groups studied (European, Chinese, and Indo-Asian), nor did they vary among ethnic groups. The results indicate that individuals who identified closely with their heritage culture were at an increased risk for suicidal thoughts but not for suicide plans or attempts.Peer reviewedFinal article publishedsuicideethnic identit
