This study examines the determinants of the welfare of oil palm farmers in Aceh, Indonesia. The main focus of this study is on the current price of oil palm, whether it affects the level of welfare of oil palm farmers or not and what efforts the government has made to improve the farmers’ welfare. This research applies quantitative descriptive approach. The number of samples was 70 Aceh farmers in 24 districts in east Aceh. The selected famers who have been designated as farm owners and workers. The sampling technique used is judgment sampling. The research data collected by using a closed questionnaire. The results of the study found that when the price of palm oil is unstable, farmers must be able to process by-products in an effort to maintain the welfare of their families. In testing the two models, the same results were obtained, this cost could not be controlled by the farmers, especially the maintenance costs using industrial processed products such as fertilizers and pesticides. Therefore, the government must further intensify the economic empowerment programs for oil palm farmers. More programs for people are still required. During the Pandemic Covid-19, farmers only relies on the sale of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) at fluctuating prices which decreases farmers' income thus making them unable to improve their welfare

Poverty is a common issue faced by almost every country in the world. If poverty cannot be completely eliminated at least be reduced. This study discusses the problems faced by farmers in Aceh that keep them being trapped in the poverty line. This research was carried out in three districts in Aceh: Aceh Tamiang, Central Aceh, and Pidie Jaya. Current study uses mixed methods employing both qualitative and quantitative approach. The questionnaire was distributed to 300 respondents and six informants were interviewed. Qualitative data were analyzed using descriptive analysis with three data analysis procedures: data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. While quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the study concluded that the problem faced by farmers in Aceh today relates to capital issue, post-harvest processing, agricultural products and infrastructure problems such as roads and bridges. Inadequate capital certainly affects agricultural production. In addition, the produce after being harvested is mainly sent to the market directly without any processing which affect farmers' incomes. Additionally, the shortage of infrastructure particularly transportation facilities which has direct impact on the transportation costs of the produces also affect the income of farmers. Those problems are responsible for farmers’ less-prosperity regardless farmers’ time spent in farming for almost part of their lives

This paper reviews the social capital of farmers in Aceh with a focus on three aspects, namely network, trust, and collective action. This research was conducted in Aceh Tamiang District, Central Aceh District, and Pidie Jaya District, in the Aceh Province. This study used a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methods. The data in this study were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires distributed to 300 respondents. Qualitative data were analyzed using descriptive analysis with three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. While quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the study show that social capital associated with social networks is outstanding; it is characterized by high community participation in community organizations, reaching 75%. The second social capital is trust. Trust among farmers in Aceh is high, reaching 90%. Social capital associated with collective action is also high, realized by the percentage of about 60%. Therefore, in general, it could be concluded that the social capital of farmers in Aceh is substantial. However, the Aceh poverty rate is still high, which stood at about 15.97% compared to the national average poverty rate of 9.66%. It means that social capital is not always a positive influence on people's welfare

Peace education is essential in societies implicated in conflict, during the combat and after. It could be learned in school as a subject or integrating it into the other subjects, directly or indirectly. However, the schools in Aceh have carried out peace education by indirect integration into religious education and citizenship education, as same as in other provinces in Indonesia. This article aims to examine an experiment of direct integration of peace education into Islamic religious education and citizenship education. The result reveals that direct integration of peace education into the two subjects is more effective in improving students' understanding of peace. Before addressing this issue, the article firstly elaborates on the peace education concepts in educational institutions and then observed through post-conflict peace education in the Aceh context

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
