Low energy indium or gallium ion implantations to SiO2 thin films for development of novel catalysts
Satoru Yoshimura, Masato Kiuchi, Yoshihiro Nishimoto, Makoto Yasuda, Akio Baba, Satoshi Hamaguchi, Low Energy Indium or Gallium Ion Implantations to SiO2 Thin Films for Development of Novel Catalysts, e-Journal of Surface Science and Nanotechnology, 2014, Volume 12, Pages 197-202, Released April 26, 2014, Online ISSN 1348-0391, https://doi.org/10.1380/ejssnt.2014.197, https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ejssnt/12/0/12_197/_article/-char/enIt has been demonstrated that indium (In) implanted silicon dioxide (SiO thin films catalyze a reaction of benzhydrol with acetylacetone. In this study, it is found that the threshold In ion incident energy for manifestation of the catalytic effect exists between 400 and 470 eV. Furthermore, a technique to implant gallium (Ga) to SiOfilms has been developed with highly controlled doses and injection energies for the formation of thin films that promote Ga catalysts. The efficiency of catalytic reactions by Ga implanted SiOthin films is yet to be improved. Unlike In implanted SiO2, the reason why no significant reaction was observed in the case of Ga implanted SiOfilms examined in this study seems that the Ga ion energy was so low that deposited surface Ga atoms should lack interactions with Si atoms for the manifestation of catalytic reaction. © 2014 The Surface Science Society of Japan

Low-energy O⁺ or SiO⁺ ion beam induced deposition of silicon oxide using hexamethyldisiloxane
Yoshimura S., Takeuchi T., Kiuchi M.. Low-energy O⁺ or SiO⁺ ion beam induced deposition of silicon oxide using hexamethyldisiloxane. Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms 549, 165276 (2024); https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nimb.2024.165276.We attempted to form silicon oxide films by spraying hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) to a substrate together with low-energy O⁺ ion beam injections. The energy of O⁺ ions was 100 eV. The substrate temperature was set at room temperature. After the trial, we found a film deposited on the substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements of the film showed that the film was silicon dioxide. The XPS spectra of the film also showed that the film contained almost no carbon atoms. For comparison, 100 eV SiO⁺ ion beams were injected into a substrate at room temperature in conjunction with HMDSO. XPS results of the deposited film showed that the film was silicon oxide and the atomic concentration ratio of oxygen to silicon was 1.35. In this case, however, a relatively large amount of carbon atoms (12 atomic%) was included in the film. In conclusion, we confirmed that the 100 eV O⁺ ion beam induced deposition using HMDSO is useful for the silicon dioxide film formation

The O+-ion energy was set at 50 eV. After the experimental trial, we found a film deposited on the substrate. The analyses of the film with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the deposited film was germanium dioxide (GeO2). It was also noted that no film deposition occurred when HMDG was supplied to substrates without O+-ion beam injections. In conclusion, the low-energy O+-ion beam induced deposition using HMDG was found to be useful for the deposition of GeO2 films

Serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonists for the reduction of symptoms of low anterior resection syndrome

Recent studies have suggested that the motility disorder, especially spastic hypermotility, seen in the neorectum following sphincter-preserving operations for rectal cancer may be the basis of the postoperative defecatory malfunction seen in these patients. We investigated the efficacy of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists in patients suffering from severe low anterior resection syndrome. Patients and methods: A total of 25 male patients with complaints of uncontrollable urgency or fecal incontinence following sphincter-preserving operations were enrolled in this study. Defecatory status, assessed on the basis of incontinence score (0–20), urgency grade (0–3), and number of toilet visits per day, was evaluated using a questionnaire before and 1 month after the administration of the 5-HT3 antagonist ramosetron. Results: All the parameters assessed improved significantly after taking ramosetron for 1 month. The effect was more prominent in cases whose anastomotic line was lower, ie, inside the anal canal. Defecatory function was better in patients who commenced ramosetron therapy within 6 months postoperatively, as compared to those who were not prescribed ramosetron for more than 7 months postoperatively. Conclusion: These results suggest that 5-HT3 antagonists are effective for the treatment of low anterior resection syndrome, as in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. The improvement in symptoms is not merely time dependent, but it is related to treatment with 5-HT3 antagonists. Keywords: low anterior resection syndrome, serotonin receptor antagonist, ISR, defecatory malfunctio
