    Identification and elimination of interior points for the minimum enclosing ball problem

    Given A := {a1,...,am} C ℝn, we consider the problem of reducing the input set for the computation of the minimum enclosing ball of A. In this note, given an approximate solution to the minimum enclosing ball problem, we propose a simple procedure to identify and eliminate points in.A that are guaranteed to lie in the interior of the minimum-radius ball enclosing A. Our computational results reveal that incorporating this procedure into two recent algorithms proposed by Yildirim lead to significant speed-ups in running times especially for randomly generated largescale problems. We also illustrate that the extra overhead due to the elimination procedure remains at an acceptable level for spherical or almost spherical input sets

    Impaired vasomotor function induced by the combination of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia

    Although it is well known that endothelial function is compromised in the presence of either hypertension (HTN) or hypercholesterolemia (HCh), less is known about whether and how the combination of these risk factors (HTN+HCh) results in impaired endothelium-dependent dilation (EDD). The aims of this study were to evaluate the influence of HTN+HCh on vasomotor function and to identify the mechanisms that underlie the altered vascular reactivity elicited by HTN+HCh. Endothelium-dependent and -independent vasomotor responses of aortic vessels were studied in mice with diet-induced HCh and/or HTN induced by chronic administration of either angiotensin II (AngII) or deoxycorticosterone acetate-salt. HTN+HCh elicited an impairment of EDD that appeared between each risk factor alone. Incubation with catalase resulted in more severe EDD impairment. Each risk factor enhanced vascular H2O2 production, but a larger response was noted with HTN+HCh. An attenuated EDD was not observed in AngII type la receptor deficient (AT1r(-/-)) mice, but AT1r(-/-) bone marrow chimeras exhibited more profound impairment compared with wild-type. HTN+HCh does not exert an additive effect of vasomotor dysfunction compared with either risk factor alone, and both H2O2 and blood cell-associated AT1r contribute to the impaired EDD responses in mice with HTN+HCh. N o t e s: Eulasia korbi is likely to be a colour form of Eulasia chrysopyga, as specimens with intermediate characters, or populations with not clear-cut conditions, are known. However, the two forms seems to occur mostly separately, therefore a subspecific rank may be possible. For example, among samples examined by us, all specimens from Köprüköy, Geyikli, exhibit almost completely white-yellowish long hair, departing significantly from the populations of ordinarily dark-haired E. chrysopyga observed in most of the Erzurum region.     Predisposing Variables in Children with Risk of Disruptive Mood: A Clinical Case–Control Study

    Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) is defined in the DSM-V as frequent, severe temper outbursts that significantly impair functioning in different environments. This was a second-stage of follow-up study, conducted to screen the frequency of DMDD in an elementary school. In the firststage of our study, 453 children between ages 7–11 were evaluated in terms of DMDD high-risk with Children Behavior Check List (CBCL). Of the children, 30 high-risk and 30 low-risk children for DMDD according to CBCL agreed to participate this clinical case–control study. Diagnoses of anxiety disorder, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and oppositional defiant disorder were more common among children in the high-risk group than the control group. Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) mothers’ interpersonal, anger, and paranoid subscale scores were higher in the DMDD highrisk group than the control group. Children in the DMDD high-risk group scored higher than the control group in all SRS subscales. In the Diagnostic Analysis of Nonverbal Accuracy (DANVA) test, the DMDD high-risk group had higher error rates for fearful and intense facial expressions. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that having a diagnosis of ADHD, high maternal SCL-90-R anger score, and presence of a paternal psychiatric diagnosis increased the high-risk of DMDD
