Assessing Security and Privacy Behavioural Risks for Self-Protection Systems

    No full text
Security and privacy can often be considered from two perspectives. The first perspective is that of the attacker who seeks to exploit vulnerabilities of the system to harm assets such as the software system itself or its users. The second perspective is that of the defender who seeks to protect the assets by minimising the likelihood of attacks on those assets. This chapter focuses on analysing security and privacy risks from these two perspectives considering both the software system and its uncertain environment including uncertain human behaviours. These risks are dynamically changing at runtime, making them even harder to analyse. To compute the range of these risks, we highlight how to alternate between the attacker and the defender perspectives as part of an iterative process. We then quantify the risk assessment as part of adaptive security and privacy mechanisms complementing the logic reasoning of qualitative risks in argumentation (Yu et al., J Syst Softw 106:102–116, 2015). We illustrate the proposed approach through the risk analysis of examples in security and privacy

We, the Editors and Publisher of the journal Artificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, have retracted the following article:Xincong Li, Haowei Guo, Shuangshuang Ren, Ruirui Fan, Yijun Yu, He Zhang, Chao Liu & Leiying Miao (2019) Fluorescent labelling in living dental pulp stem cells by graphene oxide quantum dots. Artificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, 47(1), 115–122, DOI: 10.1080/21691401.2018.1544141Since publication, concerns have been raised about the integrity of the data and the methods presented in the article. When approached for an explanation, the authors have been unresponsive, and we have been unable to verify their original data. We are therefore retracting this article and the corresponding author listed in this publication has been informed. We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as “Retracted”

A Goal-based Framework for Contextual Requirements Modeling and Analysis

    No full text
Requirements Engineering (RE) research often ignores, or presumes a uniform nature of the context in which the system operates. This assumption is no longer valid in emerging computing paradigms, such as ambient, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, where it is essential to monitor and adapt to an inherently varying context. Besides influencing the software, context may influence stakeholders' goals and their choices to meet them. In this paper, we propose a goal-oriented RE modeling and reasoning framework for systems operating in varying contexts. We introduce contextual goal models to relate goals and contexts; context analysis to refine contexts and identify ways to verify them; reasoning techniques to derive requirements reflecting the context and users priorities at runtime; and finally, design time reasoning techniques to derive requirements for a system to be developed at minimum cost and valid in all considered contexts. We illustrate and evaluate our approach through a case study about a museum-guide mobile information system

Quantum Cognitively Motivated Decision Fusion for Video Sentiment Analysis

    No full text
Video sentiment analysis as a decision-making process is inherently complex, involving the fusion of decisions from multiple modalities and the so-caused cognitive biases. Inspired by recent advances in quantum cognition, we show that the sentiment judgment from one modality could be incompatible with the judgment from another, i.e., the order matters and they cannot be jointly measured to produce a final decision. Thus the cognitive process exhibits ``quantum-like'' biases that cannot be captured by classical probability theories. Accordingly, we propose a fundamentally new, quantum cognitively motivated fusion strategy for predicting sentiment judgments. In particular, we formulate utterances as quantum superposition states of positive and negative sentiment judgments, and uni-modal classifiers as mutually incompatible observables, on a complex-valued Hilbert space with positive-operator valued measures. Experiments on two benchmarking datasets illustrate that our model significantly outperforms various existing decision level and a range of state-of-the-art content-level fusion approaches. The results also show that the concept of incompatibility allows effective handling of all combination patterns, including those extreme cases that are wrongly predicted by all uni-modal classifiers

Murmuring and Confession:A Study of Luo Yijun''s (Pseudo)Private Novels

    No full text
In the 1990s, Luo Yijun, Taiwan's new-generation novelists, was often mentioned and discussed, specially about his Private novels , construction on family history, and the diasporic life of the second-generation mainlanders. The private novel skills go throughout his writing as the core, which was most blamed part. Then, what does Private Novel Writing strategy mean to Luo Yijun? Does metawriting of Private Novels prevent the its nature? But what (pseudo)is Private Novel? Davidson made the first-person narrative authority, having the Persuasiveness of 'self without him. With the reason, private novel maintains high-profile. Luo Yijun let the 'I' to be misplaced, out of the text. This paper analyze two aspects - the private whispers and confession two novels, whispers of mumbling and dreams constitute full of evil and morbid sense of discourse;confessions is a giant eye in the face of society in self-destruction, rebirth out of confession. Armed and treatment through private novels, we see by writing to let Luo Yijun mining ego otherness, Get power of redemption. Besides, the paper expects to be able to clarify and complete the context of Luo Yijun Private Novel .
