General Aung San – the Father of Burma’s Independence
The author presents General Aung San (1915-1947) as a dedicated fighter for independence and through his complicated biography outlines the crucial period of Burma’s history: the end of the British colonial rule. The paper also presents the cultural differences that complicated Burmese-British relations.
It appears that Aung San’s nationalist spirit had been already shaped in his childhood. He became famous as a student leader during his education at Rangoon University in the 1930’s. In 1938 he had been elected the Secretary General of the most significant nationalist force: the Association We-Burmese (Do-Bama Asi-Ayone). On the one hand he was involved in lawful political activity, on the other he tried to acquire weapons by all possible means to start an armed struggle for independence. He created numerous political organizations of different political orientation (including the Communist Party of Burma). Eventually he arrived in Japan, where he received military training. In 1941, with the help of Japanese agents, he was able to create the Burma Independence Army in Thailand, which entered Burma together with the Japanese troops in 1942.
His co-operation with the Japanese forces was tortuous and painful, but he served as the Minister of War in their puppet Burmese Government. When it became obvious that the Allies will win, he established contacts with them and in August 1944 founded the Anti-Fascist Organisation. On March 27, 1945 he started an anti-Japanese uprising to help the British forces entering the country. At the end of the war his relations with the British authorities were very complex: the civil administration wanted to arrest him and bring him to justice as a war criminal, but the military commanders appreciated his help and wanted to collaborate with him and his Burmese forces. The second approach prevailed and in 1946 he headed the Burmese colonial government under the British Governor. In January 1947 he successfully negotiated Burma’s independence in London. The famous Panglong Agreement reached with the leaders of national minorities in February constituted another success of his. In April his party won the majority in the elections to the Constitutional Assembly and Aung San started his work on the constitution. In July, during feverish preparations for independence, he was assassinated together with six other members of the government. U Nu, his old friend and political successor completed his task of building up the independent state. The present military junta constitutes the first Burmese government, which does not respect General Aung San much owing to the prodemocratic activities of Aung San Suu Kyi, his daughter
Reducing the polyp burden in serrated polyposis by serial colonoscopy: the impact of nationally coordinated community surveillance
Serrated polyposis syndrome (SPS) is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) and an evolving management approach. The aims of this study were to assess the polyp burden reduction over time, and the incidence of CRC in serrated polyposis patients undergoing community surveillance. This is an observational study based on prospectively collected data. A total of 96 SPS patients with no personal history of CRC were prospectively enrolled in a surveillance program under the guidance of a tertiary center. Patients underwent surveillance colonoscopy in multiple centres across New Zealand.Patients underwent a median of four colonoscopies with a median interval of 15 months over a median follow-up period of 4.8 years. Five of 96 patients (5%) were referred for surgery, and the remaining 91 were managed by colonoscopy alone. In patients referred for surgery, 92% of the surveillance intervals to the fourth colonoscopy had been ≤12 months compared to 33% (P75% no longer had polyps ≥10mm and >90% no longer had proximal serrated polyps ≥10mm after the fourth colonoscopy. No patients were found to develop CRC during the study time period.Patients with SPS were managed by proactive surveillance colonoscopy in wider hospital settings under tertiary centre guidance, with only 5% requiring surgical management. No CRC was diagnosed in any patient during surveillance.Susan Parry, Randall W Burt, Aung Ko Win, Ye Kyaw Aung, Sonja Woodall, Julie Arnold, Mark Clendenning, Daniel D Buchanan, Timothy J Price, Christophe Rosty, Joanne P Youn

Deep image inpainting macOS/iOS application
This report presents the development of the Image Filter System. It is designed to transform photos and videos into masterpieces. Essentially, allowing users to import the media file where this media becomes a totally new file with artwork. The system contains two developments: mobile application and backend development. For the mobile side, iOS development is being used as a frontend to carry out image filtering functions. The server side of the system is to provide client services such user authentication, user requests, and admin requests.
This image filter system aims to empower non-artists to appreciate the creativity that comes along when creating and sharing an art work. Along with enabling individuals everywhere to explore their own creativity, the commercial art world serves as a great example of the importance of style transfer. And style transfer is now possible for captured video because of the ongoing development of AI-accelerated technology in the cloud and on the edge. The possibilities for design, content creation, and the advancement of creative tools are unlimited thanks to this new capability.Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science
Cynopterus sphinx Vahl 1797
Cynopterus sphinx Vahl, 1797 Short-nosed fruit bat New record Mandalay Division: Ye-nge Spring For- estry Guesthouse. Previous records from Myanmar Shan and Rakhine States, and Sagaing, Mandalay and Tanintharyi Divisions (Pearch et al., 2003); Mon State: Kyaik- Kha-Mi (HZM; and J. P. P. Bates et al., unpubl. data). Comments Five female specimens were captured at a fruiting fig tree (Ficus oppositifolia); none is available for study at the Harrison Institute. The variation in forearm length (63.5–76.9 mm) and body mass (22–56 g) suggests that C. brachyotis (Muller, 1838) may also be present in the sample; this lat- ter taxon is currently only recorded with certainty from Rakhine State. For further details of the systematics of Cynopterus in Myanmar see Pearch et al. (2003).Published as part of Struebig, Matthew J., Rossiter, Stephen J., Bates, Paul J. Emerg Infect Dis
Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) is endemic in Asia, infecting many animal hosts, but CCHFV has not been reported in Myanmar. We conducted a seroepidemiologic survey of logging communities in Myanmar and found CCHFV exposure was common (9.8%) and exposure to wild animal blood and body fluids was associated with seropositivity
