No full textThe doctorate examines the life and work of sculptor Yannis Pappas [1913-2005]. He was professor [1953-1978] and director [1959-1969] at the ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts) and Academician since 1980. It seeks his contribution to art and the cultural life of Greece {part A}. In particular, it explores the years he spent in Egypt [1945-1952], {part B}. It records and analyzes his work in Alexandria (drawings, paintings, sculptures). It documents his contact with Egyptian and European art and seeks the roots which impregnated his point of view. It focuses on his attitude towards matters concerning art and the components that contributed to his life’s course. The thesis is based on written and oral sources in Greek, French, English, Italian and Arabic and in situ research and observation. It was necessary to study unpublished material such as the artist’s personal archives, the archives of Alexandros Pappas, Fotis Fotiadis, the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, ASFA, IKY (State Scholarships Foundation), the Greek Community of Alexandria, ELIA (Greek Literary and Historical Archive), the historical archives of the Municipality of Athens, the archives of the Bank of Greece, other archives of various organizations, sources from the Internet and the Press. Interviews were carried out with members of his family, friends and people from his professional environment. The artistic activity in the early-postwar Alexandria (Greek, European and Arabic) was also examined. The artist's works in Greece and abroad were sought and documented. Lost and unknown works were identified. Finally, laboratory analyses were performed to determine the composition of pigments and the Egyptian clay used in his castings at the time. These make up the tables and annexes of the work {volume B}. Pappas’ life was “nulla dies sine linea”. His public sculptures are within a realistic idiom with a strong inclination towards simplicity. They are characterized by monumentality, immediacy and vocabular comprehensibility. His private work stands out for its diversity, richness of expression, range and quality of investigative search. He was a free-spirited independent artist, an exponent of his time, idealistic and visionary. He worked committedly towards upgrading the ASFA and the revival of the forgotten art of bronze casting in Greece. He also played an eminent role in the cultural life of the country. The sheer size of his opus constitutes an important chapter of Modern Greek Art - his years in Egypt have proved of intrinsic significance. Yannis Pappas, far from the Civil War hostilities ravaging his country, inhaling in a land of fathomless history where Greek and West European elements cohabited during the revolutionary Arabic awakening, creates ex nihilo establishing himself as a demanding sculptor, masterful drawer and enthusiastic painter. During his concomitant travels in Europe, he clarified his post-war awareness. The years 1945-1952 stand out for their spiritual and artistic freedom proving crucially important towards defining his artistic imprint after 1952.Ο γλύπτης Γιάννης Παππάς [1913-2005] ανήκει στους καλλιτέχνες της γενιάς του 30. Η διατριβή ερευνά τη ζωή και το έργο του και αναζητά τη συμβολή του στην τέχνη και στην πνευματική ζωή του τόπου {Α΄ μέρος}. Ειδικότερα, μελετώνται τα χρόνια της παραμονής του στην Αίγυπτο [1945-1952], {Β΄ μέρος}. Η έρευνα καταγράφει και αναλύει το έργο του στην Αλεξάνδρεια (σχέδιο, ζωγραφική, γλυπτική). Τεκμηριώνει την επαφή του με την αιγυπτιακή και ευρωπαϊκή τέχνη και αναζητά ρίζες στη ματιά του. Διερευνάται η στάση του απέναντι σε θέματα της τέχνης και οι συνισταμένες που συνέβαλαν στην πορεία του. Η εργασία στηρίζεται σε γραπτές και προφορικές πηγές στην ελληνική, γαλλική, αγγλική, ιταλική και αραβική γλώσσα καθώς και στην in situ έρευνα και παρατήρηση. Μελετήθηκε ανέκδοτο αρχειακό υλικό όπως το προσωπικό αρχείο του καλλιτέχνη, τα αρχεία Αλέξανδρου Παππά και Φώτη Φωτιάδη, της École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, της ΑΣΚΤ, του ΙΚΥ (Ίδρυμα Κρατικών Υποτροφιών), της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Αλεξάνδρειας, του ΕΛΙΑ (Ελληνικό Λογοτεχνικό Ιστορικό Αρχείο), του Ιστορικού αρχείου του Δήμου Αθηναίων, της Τράπεζας της Ελλάδος, εφημερίδες, λοιπά αρχεία φορέων και οργανισμών καθώς και πηγές από το διαδίκτυο. Έγιναν συνεντεύξεις με ανθρώπους του οικογενειακού, φιλικού και επαγγελματικού περιβάλλοντος του Γιάννη Παππά. Μελετήθηκε γενικότερα η καλλιτεχνική δραστηριότητα (ελληνική, ευρωπαϊκή, αραβική) της Αλεξάνδρειας της πρώτης μεταπολεμικής περιόδου. Αναζητήθηκαν και τεκμηριώθηκαν τα έργα του καλλιτέχνη στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Εντοπίσθηκαν επίσης χαμένα και άγνωστα έργα. Τέλος, πραγματοποιήθηκαν εργαστηριακές αναλύσεις για τον προσδιορισμό της σύστασης των χρωστικών και του χυτού υλικού των έργων της Αιγύπτου. Τα ανωτέρω συγκροτούν τους πίνακες και τα παραρτήματα της εργασίας {τόμος Β΄}. Η έρευνα κατέδειξε πως ο Γιάννης Παππάς έζησε κατά τέχνην. Το δημόσιο γλυπτικό έργο του κινείται στο ρεαλιστικό ιδίωμα με έντονη την προσπάθεια απλότητας. Χαρακτηρίζεται από μνημειακότητα, αμεσότητα και το εύληπτο των διατυπώσεών του. Το μελετητικό του έργο διακρίνεται για την πολυφωνία, τον πλούτο έκφρασης, το εύρος και την ποιότητα των αναζητήσεων. Υπήρξε ανένταχτος καλλιτέχνης, ανεξάρτητος εκφραστής της εποχής του, ιδεαλιστής και οραματιστής. Εργάστηκε αφοσιωμένα για την αναβάθμιση της ΑΣΚΤ και την αναβίωση της χαλκοχυτικής στην Ελλάδα. Στα δρώμενα του τόπου πρωταγωνίστησε εξίσου η προσωπικότητά του. Το μέγεθος της συνολικής του προσφοράς συγκροτεί σημαντικό κεφάλαιο της νεοελληνικής τέχνης, στο οποίο τα χρόνια της Αιγύπτου έχουν βαρύτητα. Μακριά από την εμφυλιακή Ελλάδα, σε τόπο με απύθμενη ιστορία, όπου συνυπήρξαν το ελληνικό και δυτικοευρωπαϊκό στοιχείο, ενώ αφυπνιζόταν επαναστατικά το αραβικό, ο Παππάς δημιουργεί εκ του μηδενός και καθιερώνεται ως γλύπτης αξιώσεων, δεινός σχεδιαστής και ενθουσιώδης ζωγράφος. Παράλληλα, ταξιδεύοντας στην Ευρώπη, αντιλαμβάνεται την μεταπολεμική της εικόνα. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
