The political role of the people's liberation army 1949-1973
This thesis is to study the political role of the People's Liberation Army from the approach of structure and function. The framework of the thesis consists of three major parts, first, the influence of Chinese traditional political culture on, and the formation of, the political role of the PL A; second, the influence of domestic political struggles and external military conflicts on the development of the political role of the PLA; and the third, the analysis of the transition of the PLA's political role from the structure and personnel arrangements of the CCPCC Within the above-mentioned three scopes, this thesis make a thorough discussion on the following: (1) The relationship between the structure of the PRC and the formation of the PLA's political role; (2) How has ideology influenced the army's political role; (3) What is Mao's viewpoint and his influence on the development of the army's political role; (4) What is the link between the army and the party, and how has this developed; (6) What accounts for the expansion of the PLA's political functions; (7) What is the influence of political factional struggles on the PLA's political role; (8) Is it political institution or military institution that controls the recruitment of the military elite; (9) What are the disparities between the military elite in handling international conflicts and what are their political considerations; (10) What is the Party's position in the army; (11) How have the Party’s important meetings and personnel arrangements influenced the rise and fall of the PLA's political role

The notion of practicality in Wang Yang -ming\u27s thought
Previous studies on Wang Yang-ming\u27s philosophy have made an important contribution. Nevertheless, few scholars draw attention to Wang Yang-ming\u27s contribution to Confucian practicality or the notion of the inner connection between his practicality and Confucius\u27 and Mencius\u27 orientation of practicality in their learning. Without a close examination of his notion of practicality, the significance of Wang Yang-ming as a Confucian master will not be appreciated properly. Therefore, in this research, I examine Wang Yang-ming\u27s notion of practicality in relation to his interpretation of the learning of Confucius and Mencius. In my research, I begin with clarifying the learning of Confucius and Mencius necessitated actual action and concrete practice. I also find that such an orientation of practicality gives an explanation to the fact that Wang Yang-ming, however contrary to Chu Hsi, still is regarded as a Confucian master. It is the orientation of practicality that embraces the diversities of Confucian learning and keeps the essence of the learning of Confucius and Mencius. Through my investigation, I have pointed out that Wang Yang-ming\u27s advocating the unity of knowledge and action was his successful application of Confucian practicality, that, also, is, the learning of Confucius and Mencius. Since the realization of humanity required the fulfillment of one\u27s various responsibilities, corresponding to various social roles, Wang Yang-ming underscored that, to completely realize humanity, one could not separate oneself from family and society. In addition, his doctrine that mind and principle are identical gives a different perspective that can help us better understand the idea of fulfilling our roles in society and responsibilities to family without being confined to the rules and regulations of society which dictate our conduct. With the examination of Wang Yang-ming\u27s notion of practicality, I believe that I have clarified Wang Yang-ming\u27s success of transmitting the practicality-oriented learning of Confucius and Mencius. I am also convinced that his notion of practicality is an important reason why his learning agrees with the learning of Confucius and Mencius, and why he is recognized as a philosopher in action
[[alternative]]Constructing a Conceptual Hierarchy of the Taiwan Avian Ecological Education
[[abstract]]This study was referred to the research method of conceptual hierarchy in Rivers Environmental Education, proposed by Dr. Ching-ming Wang (1995a). The purpose of the present study was to analyze the major underlying concepts in Taiwan avian ecological education. Trough(1)avian ecology reference collect and analysis,(2)constructing conceptual hierarchy draft,(3)evaluate and modified the conceptual hierarchy draft, and (4)constructing conceptual hierarchy structure to construct its conceptual hierarchy.
Through concept coverage and hierarchy analyses, the major underlying concepts in Taiwan Avian Ecological Education were analyzed. In the following;(Ⅰ)Avian ecology--individual ecology、population ecology、community ecology、habitat ecology;(Ⅱ)avian conservation--ecological culture、avian ecological crisis biodiversity conservation、conservation education. There are 21 key concepts (12 avian ecology concepts and 9 ecological conservation for birds concepts) selected and conclusively constructed in the 2 domains and 8 subdomains of the hierarchy.
This paper conclusively suggested that future the conceptual framework of Taiwan avian ecological education could be designed for the course relative to ecological education, based on the results of the study.

[[alternative]]The analysis of Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang in CE and HPLC
[[abstract]]High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) are two well-known techniques in chemical analysis. Both have many separating modes and are used to assay Chinese herbal drugs. In the present study, two analyzing methods are established for assaying the constituents of the Chinese herbal preparation, Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang. The suitability of the two methods was also evaluated and compared.
Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang comprises Paeoniae Radix, Astragali Radix, Ginseng Radix, Puerariae Radix, Viticis Fructus, Cimicifugae Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix and Phellodendri Cortex. In HPLC analysis, eighteen constituents of Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang, including gallic acid, benzoic acid, oxypaeoniflorin, albiflorin, paeoniflorin, paeonol, formononrtin, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, puerarin, daidzein, berberine, palmatine, jatrorrhizin, glycyrrhizin, 18b-glycyrrhetinic acid and ginsenoside Rb1, were separated in 80 minutes by a Cosmosil 5C18-MS column with a linear gradient elution system containing phosphates and acetonitrile which was detected at 203 nm, 210 nm, and 254 nm. Moreover, the constituents in each component herb and the home-made preparation were investigated herein. The preservation stability of the commercially available Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang preparations was also evaluated by the developed analysis method.
In CE analysis, the analysis of Yi-chi-tsung-ming-tang was cut into two parts, MEKC and CZE, according to the properties of the constituents In MEKC, two constituents, albiflorin and paeoniflorin, could be separated in 15 minutes, using a buffer system containing anionic surfactants (40 mM SC) and acetonitrile as organic modifier. In CZE, thirteen constituents could be separated in 55 minutes, using a buffer system containing 20 mM borate(pH=9.76). The effects of the analysis parameters were also investigated herein. Moreover, one Chinese herb, Artemisiae Capillaris Herba, was analyzed by an on-line sample stacking CE method, sweeping. Also, the suitability and effects of the method were compared with those of the conventional CE methods.
From the results of the analysis, it is concluded that HPLC and CE possesses their own beneficial effects in terms of the suitability of the system, analyzing time, stability of the base line, and the number of theoretical plates of each compound, respectively. HPLC and CE can complement each other in the analysis of Chinese herbal preparations.
