The comparison of the viability of crushed, morselized and diced cartilage grafts: a confocal microscopic study
No full textTo compare the cellular viability of diced, crushed, and morselized cartilage used in nasal surgeries. In this study, cartilage was extracted from the ears of seven New Zealand rabbits and was subsequently either diced, crushed or morselized to an amorphous state, or left unmodified. The four types of grafts were then implanted in the back regions of the rabbits. After 3 months, the cellular viability from four groups was compared to a control group using confocal microscopy. Analysis of the data obtained from the enumeration of live cells showed no statistically significant difference between the unmodified graft group and the control group. The diced, crushed, and morselized cartilage groups did show a statistically significant difference in terms of live cell count with the highest number of live cells in diced cartilage group. A statistically significant decrease in live cell count was detected in crushed cartilage group. Our study shows that the viability of cells in diced cartilage grafts is greater than those in crushed or morselized cartilage grafts

Kappaleiden kehityskulku luonnoksista levylle
No full textToiminnallinen opinnäytetyö on reflektiivinen analyysi laulajan, muusikon ja valmistuvan pedagogin kosketus sävellys- ja studiotyöhön. Työ perustuu kahteen kappaleeseen jotka tekijä on säveltänyt, sanoittanut ja sovittanut. Kappaleita tarkastellaan yksityiskohtaisesti, perehtymällä sanoituksiin musiikillisiin ilmiöihin.
Opinnäytetyö voi toimia vertailukohtana, esimerkkinä tai inspiraationa vastaavissa projekteissa työskenteleville musiikinopiskelijoille. Mikäli palo musiikin kirjoittamiseen löytyy, rohkaistaan musiikinopiskelijoita kuuntelemaan intuitiotaan pedagogisista opinnoista huolimatta. Opinnäytetyössä pyritään muistuttamaan siitä, että muusikko ja pedagogi kulkevat käsi kädessä. Nämä kaksi ammattia tukevat toisiaan, ei päinvastoin.
Opinnäytetyön edetessä tarkastellaan sitä, miten kyseinen työ on auttanut kirjoittajaa niin muusikkona kuin pedagogina. Kehityksestä jonka voi nähdä itsessään. Opinnäytetyöstä puhutaan myös siitä, mitkä asiat on otettava huomioon tekijänoikeuksista. Työn tarkoitus on myös alku tekijän tulevalle levylle.This functional thesis is a reflective analysis of a singer, musician and pedagogue who is having her nearly first touch in composing and studio work. The thesis is based on two pieces that author has composed, written and arranged. The songs are opened in detail by studying the phenomena of music and lyrics.
The thesis can serve as a parallel, as an example or inspiration for music students who are working with similar projects. If the fire can be found in writing music, students are encouraged to listen to their intuition in spite of pedagogical studies. This study seeks to remind that a musician and pedagogy go hand in hand. These two are mutually supportive trades.
This study progress has helped the author to know herself better as musician and pedagogue. The thesis also deals with the issues that what you have to consider about copyrights. "Orhan Pamuk's novels and their ""afterlife"" in English and German translations"
No full textIn this dissertation, I focus on the Turkish Nobel Prize laureate Orhan Pamuk’s novels and on their English and German translations by Güneli Gün, Maureen Freely, and Ingrid Iren. I argue that literary translation is a creative act, the study and critique of which needs to be anchored within a specific historical, geographical, and temporal horizon.
I studied the reception of Pamuk’s novels in translation and discovered that book reviewers write about translations as if they were transparent copies of the original works. Literary translation in a largely monolingual public sphere is thus overlooked. I provide a theoretical model for the study and critique of translations as autonomous texts beyond the evaluative notion of “fidelity” to originals. I devise a theoretical framework based on my close textual analyses of the translations. I situate translations within their respective context, read them in relation to particular historical circumstances that gave rise to them, and in relation to secondary material written by translators, ranging from creative writing, other translations, prefaces, introductions, afterwords, glossaries, and interviews. This approach elucidates each translator’s project, position, and intention.
The introduction provides literature review and lays out the theoretical framework. Chapter 1 consists of two parts. In part 1, I examine the reception of Orhan Pamuk in Turkey and abroad as revealed in reviews, articles, interviews, and book length manuscripts. In part 2, I read Pamuk’s Kara Kitap (The Black Book), paying close attention to particular images, intertextual and metatextual aspects, and shifts in narrative voice. I choose elements of the novel that are self-referential and language-, context-, and culture-specific. Translation of these elements reveals the translators’ literary and stylistic idiosyncrasies and how each translator recontextualized the text in unique ways. In chapter 2, I focus on the translator Güneli Gün and identify her unique style as a writer. I argue that Gün’s primary purpose as a translator was to bridge Turkish and American literatures and cultures and to introduce Pamuk to the Anglo-American readership in the era before he reached international fame. In chapter 3, I focus on Maureen Freely, who is widely known as Pamuk’s definitive English translator since the Nobel Prize. I analyze her translations, novels, and journalistic writings in order to determine her idiosyncratic style and position as the author of the new translation. I argue that Freely translated the novel in ways that bolster Pamuk’s later image as “the writer of the city of Istanbul.” In chapter 4, I focus on Ingrid Iren, Pamuk’s German translator and read her translation, Das schwarze Buch, in relation to the long history and legacy of translation into German, a context completely different from the previous ones. I argue that Iren performed a significant bridging role between the two languages and cultures through her active recreation of the Turkish narrative into German. The German text is heavily shaped by the translator. In the conclusion, I point to possible avenues for further research.

No full textIn public administration (PA) literature, there are a number of big questions regarding institutional and organizational factors. Competency formation, availability of resources and citizen empowerment [1] are among them. The importance of big questions must not rely on instrumentality; rather should focus on how and whether they have consequences and value for society [2]. The literature also questions “the paradox of publicness” [3, 4] by referring the “special status of public organization” claim of [5] and “publicness theory” of [6]. Given that public organizations have different characteristics with regard to operational processes and organizational structures operating in a particularized environment [7:6], they pursue different ends [5]. Replying to these big questions, we put forward public sector innovation (PSI) and co-creation of public values (PVs) as particularly important when contextual and conditional indicators are at the table. PVs and innovations in government may serve the government to reorganize PA as a whole through producing holistic and long-term strategies to enhance public service delivery system in a multi-actor-environment. For this we need a functional mediator, thus we employ information and communication technologies (ICTs). Through ICT-led tools, various and differentiated stakeholders can meet on a continuous base to frame the collective ground. For governments, ICTs may well be used to realize collaboration, coordination, and co-creation values that would alleviate some of the issues addressed via the big questions.Information and Communication Technolog
