For tens of thousands of years, the rich and beautiful sounds of thousands of languages washed across this earth.\ud

Over all of Australia it is believed there were more than five hundred at one time. Around two hundred years ago, a new language began to replace them, sweeping across Australia with such force that some parts of it could no longer hear the voices that told its stories and held its secrets.\ud

A deep silence seemed to be looming.\ud
\ud
Then, finally, a change began. As the volume of the old words faded to a whisper in some places, the people who are their custodians began to take action, calling for respect, for the rights to speak and be heard in their traditional tongues, while stirring everyone to appreciate the treasury of knowledge held in their languages.\ud

The Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee was formed in 2005 in recognition of the need for a state body to advocate for Indigenous languages. Over the years we found a collective passion for music and song. Some of us just loved to sing and others want to see their songs passed on the younger women. It was decided that for one meeting we would each bring a song in our language to share with the others.\ud

This contemporary musical gathering seeded the realisation singing in this way gives new life to the ancient process of sharing music between communities, and empowers the participants to share their languages.\ud

QILAC initiated the language songs project to promote encouraging contemporary language use within Qld communities, increase awareness of languages in the Queensland public and to Government, and to place languages on the arts agenda in Queensland and nationally.\ud
Each QILAC member consulted with their community around the development of language songs for this project. Two songs in each language were written by the participants, taught to the rest of the group, workshopped and produced by Kristina Kelman, and subsequently recorded and mastered by David Bridie for the CD, which has been published as Yamani. In collaboration with First Languages Australia a twelve-minute film that documents the making of the CD has been produced. The film is also titled Yamani. The film has been submitted to a number of prestigious national and international film festivals. https://vimeo.com/134197853
The film screened for six months as QANTAS in-flight entertainment and for a further six months as on board entertainment on Queensland Rail’s long distance train services. A story for Queensland Rail’s, Embark Magazine, has been prepared for passenger reading while the film is being broadcast. Yamani: Voices of an Ancient Land
If there are challenges in language revitalization, none of them seems to have been daunting enough to the six Australian Aboriginal women who launched the “Yamani: Voices of an Ancient Land” project celebrated in this photo essay. Those six forces of nature (and culture) came together around the idea of using contemporary song to re-instill pride in Indigenous languages and cultures and rebuild the strength of identity. The outcomes are a CD of songs in five different languages, a companion video, and rousing live performances. Advisor: Dr. Muh. Abdullah, MA The Primbon Hirz Al-Yamani manuscript is a collection of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (PNRI) with the catalog number Br7 which reads Arabic Pegon. The Primbon Hirz Al-Yamani manuscript is a form of prose which contains the functions and benefits of hirz prayer. In this study, data sources are divided into two, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data sourced from Primbon Hirz Al-Yamani texts obtained through catalog studies in museums or libraries. Secondary data comes from books or other sources that are located as supporting research. The theory used in this study is the theory of philology and mimeic theory. Philological theory is used to get translations and edits of text. The text editing method used in this study is the standard method. In addition, to find out the contents contained in the Primbon Hirz Al-Yamani text, the authors use mimetic theory. The mimetic model used in this study is mimetic according to Abrams. Based on the analysis conducted by the author, the Primbon Hirz Al-Yamani text is a pesantren literary text containing Isim A'zhom in it. MALE. Body 2.0 mm. Head and abdomen blackish; pronotum, elytra and antennae reddish-brown; legs yellowish-brown. Head 1.00 times as wide as long(see ratio HL/HW), with superficial and very sparce punctation, microreticulation fine; eyes small, slightly protruding from lateral outline of head, 1/3 as long as postocular region (Figs. 1–2). Pronotum weakly oblong and distinctly wider than head (see ratios PW/PL and PW/HW); widest in anterior third portion, weakly narrowed along two-thirds and sharply narrowed in the posterior third (Figs. 1–2), posterior margin convex in the middle (Fig. 5); punctation and microreticulation more distinct than that of head. Elytra distinctly shorter than pronotum, and widened posteriad, approximately 1.2 times as wide as pronotum (Figs. 1–2 and see ratios EL/PL, EW/PW); microsculpture less distinct than that of pronotum; punctation distinctly granulose (Fig. 5); without sutural carina; postero-laterally with oblique impressions; lateral margins sharply angled in the middle (Fig. 6). Abdomen wider than elytra (see ratio AW/EW), widest at segment VI;punctation large and sparse; microsculpture present, composed of dense and fine transverse meshes and striae; only tergites VII modified; process of tergite VII short and stout in lateral view (Fig. 7), wide and acute apically in dorsal view (Fig. 8); sternite VIII unmodified. Median lobe of aedeagus approximately 0.23 mm and as in Figure 9. FEMALE. Similar to male except for the secondary sexual characters and as follows. Pronotum approximately as wide as long, posterior margin broadly convex; abdominal tergite VII unmodified; spermatheca as in Figure 10. Comparative notes. This new species is distinguished from all its consubgeners by the male primary and secondary sexual characters.The type localities of the G. yamani Örgel, sp. n. and G. priva Assing, 2006 are separated by a valley (details are explained in the distribution and bionomics). These species can be distinguished from by the following morphological features: in G. yamani sp. n. the posterior margin of the male pronotum is convex in the middle, whereas in G. priva the posterior margin of the male pronotum is weakly pointed in the middle. G. yamani sp. n. does not have sutural carina on the male elytra, but in G. priva the male elytra have moderately elevated sutural carina. The process of the male abdominal tergite VII in G. yamani sp. n. is wider than that of G. priva. The crista apicalis process of the median lobe of aedeagus is dagger-shaped in G. yamani sp. n., but it is slender and needle-shape in G. priva. Additionally, based on the shape of crista apicalis process of the median lobe of aedeagus, G. yamani sp. n. is most similar to G. solodovnikovi Assing, 2006 (dagger-shaped in both species), described from the Erzurum Province (Assing, 2006), from which it differs by sutural carina on the male elytra, anterior abdominal tergites and by process of abdominal tergite VII. G. yamani sp. n. does not have sutural carina on the male elytra, but in G. solodovnikovi the male elytra have weakly elevated sutural carina. Anterior abdominal tergites are unmodified in G. yamani sp. n., whereas abdominal tergites III and IV have a median tubercle in G. solodovnikovi. The process of the male abdominal tergite VII in G. yamani sp. n. is wider than that of G. solodovnikovi (Table 1). Etymology. Patronymic, the species is named to honour Serkan Yaman of Manisa, Turkey. Distribution and bionomics. The new species is known only from the type locality in the Reşadiye and Almus District (Tokat Province), in the Middle Blacksea Region (Fig. 17). The mountain range where the type locality is located is geographically the transition zone between Central Anatolia (Sivas Province) and the Middle Blacksea regions (Tokat Province). This mountain ranges is separated from Giresun Mountains, which is the type locality of G. priva, the morphologically most similar species, by the Kelkit Valley. Therefore, the new species is probably endemic in this mountain range surrounded by the Yeşilırmak River and its tributaries. Bionomics. The specimens were collected under stones in meadows at elevation 1990 m.
