Clustering goal-driven security factors for protecting data in cloud storage using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA): an empirical study
The purpose of this paper is to explore the important security factors for protecting data in cloud storagefrom the perspective of security practitioners. The study consist of 43 security variables (or indicator items)from a survey participated by security practitioners in Malaysia. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) isconducted to understand the clusters of variables (or indicator items) and the inter-relationships constructingthe security factors (or components). Most of the respondents are from public sector organisations(government and higher education organisations) in Malaysia. The clusters of variables resulting from thisanalysis can be used as a reference for security practitioners planning to produce security policies to protectdata stored in a cloud storage. The top security factors identified from this study are shown in terms ofpolicy implementation and controls in confidentiality, integrity, availability, non-repudiation, authenticity,reliability, accountability and auditability of data services in cloud storage
Security challenges in cloud storage
As cloud becomes the tool of choice for more data storage services, the number of service providers has also increased. With these choices, organisations have a wide selection of services available to move their data to the cloud. However, the responsibility to maintain the security of sensitive data stored therein remains paramount. This paper will discuss some of the challenges of securing a cloud storage and putting it into context by reviewing relevant literature. The challenges associated with the three important security aspects (confidentiality, integrity and availability) are discussed together with the vulnerabilities linked to them. It is important to look into these challenges as cloud storage is not only about technological evolution but involves security considerations. We aim to provide insights of security challenges and its solutions to enhance cloud storage implementation
Using Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) approach to assess security in cloud storage
Assessing the security of data stored in cloud storage can be carried out by developing goal-based measurement items. The measurement items can be utilized to construct a security assessment model based on practical needs. The measurement items can assist in acquiring support decision making on the implementation of a security frameworks. This paper discusses the Goal-Question-Metrics (GQM) approach and its application towards constructing measurement items for a security metric. It also attempts to provide practical guidance and example of measurements using GQM. An application of the GQM paradigm towards the development of a security metric is presented. The metrics obtained will assist organizations to meet their requirements for a cloud storage security framework
Protecting data in personal cloud storage with security classifications
More and more data is stored in personal cloud storage and it is expected to grow further. As cloud storage is becoming an option for user in keeping their data online, it comes with the security threats and the challenges of protecting their data from unauthorised access. Many security controls have been implemented by cloud storage providers (CSPs) as a security measure but although encryption is known as one of the solution, it cannot be fully implemented due to the need of a robust and costly infrastructure. Therefore, we foresee the need to implement protection based on categorisation of data determined by users. This paper will discuss recent security threats and also the levels of data protection in cloud storage. We propose a security framework that protects data in cloud storage based on the level of protection it needs
An overview of cloud services adoption challenges in higher education institutions
Information Technology (IT) plays an important role in enabling education services be delivered to users. Most education online services in universities have been run on the cloud to provide services to support students, lecturers, researchers and administration staff. These are enabled with the emergence of cloud computing in the world of IT. Cloud computing offers on demand Internet-based computing services. This paper presents an overview of cloud computing adoption in higher education, mainly tertiary institutions and universities. The focus of the paper is the challenges of cloud computing in higher education. It introduces the background to cloud computing and reviews research on adoption challenges in higher education institutions. These challenges are important as they provide an overview of the adoption of cloud in higher education. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
