Assessment and Prevention Of Falls In Elderly: Nurses’ Role
Falls in elderlies has been a major concern in geriatric care. One out of three elderlies have
been falling every year and the many more elderlies are constantly at risk of falls. These falls
lead to serious injuries like hip fractures and build sense of fear in elderlies, which limit their
activities and degrade their quality of life.
There has been seen a huge need to enhance the skill and knowledge of the present and future
nurses to ensure that they are professionally and personally capable to identify the risk factors
and plan prevention strategies accordingly.
Literature review has been used in this thesis to find out the possible assessment methods to
assess the risk factors of falls in elderly, the vulnerable groups of elderlies who have higher
chances of falling. In addition, the possible falls prevention strategies have been studied and
laid out in this thesis.
A total of 11 relevant articles were obtained from a reliable database search.
The contents of the thesis have been categorized into distinct assessment and prevention
headings for ease of reading and finding required information. In the conclusion end, the author has presented his own ideas and discussed the additional need for safety of elderlies

A short note on “Group theoretic approach to rationally extended shape invariant potentials” [Ann. Phys. 359 (2015) 46–54]

Need of Improvement in Emergency Medical Service in Urban Cities
Introduction: An effective Emergency Medical Service system does not exist in Nepal. For an effective
EMS system to be developed the scale of the problem and the existing facilities need to be studied.
Methods: Prospective observational study was carried out on 1964 patients attending Emergency
Department at Patan Hospital during one month period of September 2006. The patients were
specifically enquired on mode of transport used, place of origin and whether they called for an
ambulance or not. Patients triage category at the time of triaging was also noted. Information on
ambulance service were collected by direct interview with the service providers and the total number
of patients attending Emergency Departments daily were collected from the major hospitals of the
urban Lalitpur and Kathmandu. MS Excel and SPSS software were used for data entry, editing and
analysis.
Results: Total 9.9% patients arrived in ambulance whereas 53.6% came in a Taxi, 11.4% came in
private vehicle, 13.5 % came by bus, 5.4% came by bike and the rest 6.2% came by other modes of
transportation. Only 13.5% of triage category I patients took the ambulance. There were 31 service
providers with 49 ambulances and 720 patients per day attend Emergency Departments in the
surveyed area.
Conclusions: Very less number of patients use the ambulance service for emergency services. The
available ambulances are not properly equipped and do not have trained staff and as such are only a
means of transportation to the hospitals of urban Lalitpur and Kathmandu.

Learning approach among health sciences students in a medical college in Nepal: a cross-sectional study

The intrinsically motivated students adopt a deep approach to learning, while students who fear failure in assessments adopt a surface approach to learning. In the area of health science education in Nepal, there is still a lack of studies on learning approach that can be used to transform the students to become better learners and improve the effectiveness of teaching. Therefore, we aimed to explore the learning approaches among medical, dental, and nursing students of Chitwan Medical College, Nepal using Biggs’s Revised Two-Factor Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F) after testing its reliability. Methods: R-SPQ-2F containing 20 items represented two main scales of learning approaches, deep and surface, with four subscales: deep motive, deep strategy, surface motive, and surface strategy. Each subscale had five items and each item was rated on a 5-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using Student’s t-test and analysis of variance. Reliability of the administered questionnaire was checked using Cronbach’s alpha. Results: The Cronbach’s alpha value (0.6) for 20 items of R-SPQ-2F was found to be acceptable for its use. The participants predominantly had a deep approach to learning regardless of their age and sex (deep: 32.62±6.33 versus surface: 25.14±6.81, P<0.001). The level of deep approach among medical students (33.26±6.40) was significantly higher than among dental (31.71±6.51) and nursing (31.36±4.72) students. In comparison to first-year students, deep approach among second-year medical (34.63±6.51 to 31.73±5.93; P<0.001) and dental (33.47±6.73 to 29.09±5.62; P=0.002) students was found to be significantly decreased. On the other hand, surface approach significantly increased (25.55±8.19 to 29.34±6.25; P=0.023) among second-year dental students compared to first-year dental students. Conclusion: Medical students were found to adopt a deeper approach to learning than dental and nursing students. However, irrespective of disciplines and personal characteristics of participants, the primarily deep learning approach was found to be shifting progressively toward a surface approach after completion of an academic year, which should be avoided. Heterogeneous networking testbeds integration and wireless network virtualization
Networking research has grown immensely over the past few years. This has urged the need for a heterogeneous networking research infrastructure, to experiment with the interaction and integration of different types of networks. This requirement led to the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) effort, supported by NSF, which aims at creating a global infrastructure for conducting networking experiments across diverse substrates such as
wired, wireless, sensor and cellular networks. In this work, we discuss challenges involved in federating two diverse testbeds - PlanetLab and ORBIT and present a model for building a united
infrastructure for the models. PlanetLab is a global research wired network that supports the development of new network services. ORBIT
is a laboratory-based wireless network emulator for 802.11 testing.
An integrated wired-wireless testbed will increase the scalability of experimentation. Proof-of-concept experiments are also presented reinforcing the usefulness of the model in terms of facilitating experiments over the integrated infrastructure.
Such an integrated infrastructure poses a requirement of support for wireless network virtualization - supporting multiple concurrent
wireless experiments. Unlike wired networks, wireless networks present unique challenges making the task of wireless virtualization
a difficult problem. The critical problem of simultaneous experimentation in networks involving the wireless medium are identified and approaches towards it are discussed. We evaluate and compare two approaches towards wireless virtualization - SDMA (Space Division Channel Multiplexing) and VAP (Virtual AP Channel Multiplexing) suitable for supporting long running experiments. In this study conducted on ORBIT we quantify the difference in
performance and interference when using wireless virtualization and suggest measures to mitigate the same. The feasibilty study will serve as the first step towards ORBIT virtualization.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 63-65)
A Systematic Review on Author Identification Methods
Author Identification is a technique for identifying author of anonymous text. It has near about 130 year's long history, started with the work by Mendenhall 1987. Applications of Author identification include plagiarism detection, detecting anonymous author, in forensics and so on. In this paper the authors outline features used for Author identification like vocabulary, syntactic and others. Researchers worked on various methods for Author identification they also outline this paper on types of Author Identification methods that include 1. Profile-based Approaches which includes Probabilistic Models, Compression Models, Common n-Grams (CNG) approach, 2. Instance-based Approaches which includes Vector Space Models, Similarity-based Models, Meta-learning Models and 3. Hybrid Approaches.
