Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textD'une part, les composés organosiliciques sont des intermédiaires de synthèse particulièrement précieux en chimie organique, car ils interviennent dans diverses transformations ultérieures. Par ailleurs, les molécules contenant du silicium suscitent un intérêt croissant dans les domaines de la chimie pharmaceutique et des sciences des matériaux. D'autre part, la réaction d'hydrosilylation d'une oléfine catalysée par un métal de transition en présence d'hydrosilanes constitue une méthode directe et économiquement avantageuse pour synthétiser des organosilanes à partir de matériaux disponibles. Dans le cadre de ma thèse de doctorat, nous avons principalement étudié la synthèse de composés organosiliciques par addition catalytique de silicium-hydrogène à des oléfines fonctionnalisées, en utilisant des métaux de transition comme catalyseurs.Dans la première partie de cet article (Chapitre 2), nous avons développé une réaction d'hydrosilylation catalysée par le rhodium(I) entre le trifluorométhylène et des hydrosilanes substitués commercialement, permettant d'obtenir divers α-trifluorométhylène-β-silanes. Cette transformation présente une grande tolérance fonctionnelle et peut être appliquée à des oléfines à la fois riches et pauvres en électrons, situées à différents endroits du cycle aromatique. De plus, en remplaçant le solvant par du méthanol, il est possible d'hydrogéner sélectivement la double liaison C=C de l'α-trifluorométhylstyrène, conduisant à un produit réduit avec un rendement élevé.Dans la deuxième partie de cet article (Chapitre 3), nous avons mis au point une réaction d'hydrosilylation de l'alpha-aramide, catalysée par le rhodium en présence d'un silane substitué. Cette réaction se distingue par sa haute régiosélectivité et son excellente énantiosélectivité, grâce à l'utilisation d'un ligand P-chiral nouvellement développé. Cette stratégie montre une grande robustesse vis-à-vis de divers substrats et substituants, permettant la synthèse d'amides chiraux β-silylés avec des rendements et des sélectivités énantiomériques allant de bons à excellents.Enfin, nous avons fourni une introduction détaillée de la section expérimentale, qui est divisée en les parties suivantes: (1) méthodes de synthèse et caractérisation des substrats de réaction; (2) méthodes opérationnelles pour la réaction d'hydrosilylation et caractérisation de ses produits; et (3) réactions de transformation des produits d'hydrosilylation et caractérisation de leurs produits résultants.On one hand, organosilicon compounds are particularly useful synthetic intermediates in organic synthesis because they participate in diverse subsequent transformations. In addition, silicon-containing molecules have gained increasing attention in medicinal chemistry, as well as in materials science. On the other hand, transition-metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkenes is a straight forward approach to construct organosilanes from readily available materials with complete atom economy. Therefore, in my Ph.D. thesis, we mainly focused on the synthesis of organosilicon compounds by transition-metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation of functionalized alkenes.In the first part of this thesis (Chapter 2), we developed a rhodium(I)-catalyzed hydrosilylation reaction of trifluoromethylalkenes and commercially available substituted hydrosilanes affording various α-trifluoromethyl-β-silanes. The transformation has a high functional tolerance and can be used with electron-rich and electron-poor alkenes on different positions of aromatic ring. Furthermore, by replacing the solvent to methanol, it was also possible to selectively perform hydrogenation of the C=C double bond of α-trifluoromethylstyrenes to give the reduced products in high yields. In the second part of this thesis (Chapter 3), we developed a highly regioselective and good enantioselective rhodium-catalyzed hydrosilylation reaction of α-arylenamides with substituted silanes and with the aid of newly developed chiral P-ligand. This strategy showed great tolerance of various substrates and substituents, affording various chiral β-silylated amides in good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities.Finally, we provided a detailed introduction of the experimental section which divided into the following parts: (1) synthesis methods and characterization of the reaction substrates; (2) operational methods for the hydrosilylation reaction and characterization of its products; (3) transformation reactions of the hydrosilylation products and characterization of their resulting products
