    Impulsive noise mitigation in digital subscriber lines: the state-of-the-art and research opportunities

    Digital subscriber lines (DSL) relying on twisted pairs and on home-passed fiber network, are still widely deployed in a large part of the world. However, its performance is severely restricted by the occurrence of impulsive noise. In this article, we present both the state-of-the-art and open research opportunities for impulsive noise mitigation in DSL. Its necessity is firstly discussed by briefly characterizing the impulsive noise and outlining the deleterious effects imposed on the system. Then, the state-of-the-art is discussed by categorizing of the mitigation techniques into those at the transmitter as well as into parametric and non-parametric mitigation solutions at the receiver, followed by adetailed comparison in terms of mitigation efficiency, spectral efficiency, computational complexity and processing delay. Open research opportunities are discussed from the perspective of noise modeling for parametric mitigation, advanced mitigation design and machine-learning aided mitigation

    Building on the ubiquity of electric power infrastructure, power line communications (PLC) has been successfully used in diverse application scenarios, including the smart grid and in-home broadband communications systems as well as industrial and home automation. However, the power line channel exhibits deleterious properties, one of which is its hostile noise environment. This article aims for providing a review of noisemodeling and mitigation techniques in PLC. Specifically, a comprehensive review of representative noise models developed over the past fifty years is presented, including both the empirical models based on measurement campaigns and simplified mathematical models. Following this, we provide an extensive survey of the suite of noise mitigation schemes, categorizing them into mitigation at the transmitter as well as parametric and nonparametric techniques employed at the receiver. Furthermore,since the accuracy of channel estimation in PLC is affected by noise, we review the literature of joint noise mitigation and channel estimation solutions. Finally, a number of directions are outlined for future research on both noise modeling and mitigation in PLC

    Microstructure and electrical properties of Y(NO3)3·6H2O-doped ZnO-Bi2O3-based varistor ceramics

    Y(NO3)3·6H2O-doped ZnO-Bi2O3-based varistor ceramics were prepared using a solid reaction route. The microstructure, electrical properties, degradation coefficient(DV), and dielectric characteristics of varistor ceramics were studied in this paper. With increasing amounts of Y(NO3)3·6H2O in the starting composition, Y-containing Bi-rich, Y2O3, and Sb2O4 phases were formed, and the average grain size decreased. Results also showed that with the addition of0.16 mol% Y(NO3)3·6H2O, Y(NO3)3·6H2O-doped ZnO-based varistor ceramics exhibit comparatively better comprehensive electrical properties, such as a threshold voltage of425 V/mm, a nonlinear coefficient of73.9, a leakage current of1.78μA, and a degradation coefficient of1.7. The dielectric characteristics and lightning surge test also received the same additional content of Y(NO3)3·6H2O. The results confirmed that doping with rare earth nitrates instead of rare earth oxides is very promising route in preparing high-performance ZnO-Bi2O3-based varistor ceramics.?2011 Elsevier B.V.     Title: IKEA's brand culture in today's Chinese market: Focus on Shanghai Level: Final assignment for Master of Business Administration Author: Hongming Yang, Chen Hu  Supervisor: Maria Fregidou-Malama Date: 2012-June Aim: The aim of this study is to analyze the collected information to study the IKEA's brand culture and consumer psychology and behavior in Shanghai market nowadays. By using Hofstede´s cultural dimensions to assess the IKEA's brand culture in Shanghai we give suggestions to IKEA about how to adapt to the regional market.  Method: Use of primary data which were collected through interviews, with a  questionnaire provided to managers. Secondary data in form of articles, books and published literature has been collected through databases such as DIVA, Emerald and the library at Gävle University. We use qualitative analysis to study the issue. Result &amp; Conclusions: IKEA's brand culture to provide good quality products to improve people's life in Shanghai in cheap price is not so clearly understood. IKEA has to adjust its marketing strategy, such as improving the quality of its products, or reducing the price, to remove the Shanghai consumers' confusion and misunderstanding of IKEA, in order to suit the Shanghai regional culture. Contribution of the thesis: We suggest that multinational enterprises should pay attention on the regional culture of the market they want to enter in. It is  important that the enterprises know the Shanghai consumers' culture requirements, which can lead enterprises to promote their brand culture
