Analysis of the bacterial diversity in the fecal material of the endangered Yangtze finless porpoise, Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis
The aim of this study was to determine the bacteria present in the fecal material of the endangered Yangtze finless porpoise, Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis. Fecal samples were collected from 12 Yangtze finless porpoises living in the wild at Poyang Lake, located in Jiangxi Province, China. To determine the bacterial diversity, a 16S rRNA gene clone library using the bacterial PCR primers fD1 and rP2, was prepared. A total of 138 near-full-length sequences were analyzed and 39 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were identified. Sequences showing a parts per thousand yen97% similarity were grouped together as an OTU. Six different phyla were identified in which 38 OTUs were classified. Most of the OTUs contained sequences belonged to the phylum Firmicutes (51.3%), followed by Tenericutes (17.9%), Proteobacteria (15.4%), Actinobacteria (7.7%), Deinococcus-Thermus (2.6%) and Cyanobacteria (2.6%). A phylum could not be assigned for one clone within one OTU (2.6%). It appears that the Yangtze finless porpoise has a more diverse range of bacteria compared to other aquatic mammals, such as seals. The aim of this study was to determine the bacteria present in the fecal material of the endangered Yangtze finless porpoise, Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis. Construction of Evaluation Index System for Suitability of Sunshine and Thermal Environment of Public Activity Space for the Elderly with Young Children
With the aging of China’s population and the liberalization of the birth policy, the country’s social population structure has changed, and the public activity spaces of residential areas are expected to meet the new needs created by such change. According to the existing literature, the most common population group in the public activity spaces in China’s current residential areas consists of the elderly with young children. However, how to evaluate the suitability of these spaces from the perspective of sunshine and thermal environments remains unclear. To fill this research gap, this article takes Xi’an as a case to explore the construction of an evaluation index system for sunshine and thermal environment suitability in the public activity spaces of residential areas for the elderly with young children. Firstly, based on field research and literature review, four initial indices were established, including sunshine demand hours, ultraviolet intensity, the universal thermal climate index (UTCI), and the wet bulb globe temperature index (WBGT). Secondly, on the basis of field research and expert interviews, these indices were revised and finalized, mainly with regard to the sunshine and thermal environment suitability for the elderly with young children in the urban residential area, so as to make the indices more in line with the actual research problems. Thirdly, a scoring method for each of the finalized indexes was proposed, resulting in a comprehensive evaluation index system. Finally, the suitability and operability of the constructed index system were validated through practical application in a sample residential area. The results show that, based on some known indices, the evaluation index system of the sunshine and thermal environment suitability of public activity space for the elderly with young children can be established. Its application is potentially helpful in making the public activity space environment in existing residential areas in China more adaptable to the needs of the elderly with young children
An Image-Denoising Framework Using ℓq Norm-Based Higher Order Variation and Fractional Variation with Overlapping Group Sparsity
As one of the most significant issues in imaging science, image denoising plays a major role in plenty of image processing applications. Due to the ill-posed nature of image denoising, total variation regularization is widely used in image denoising problems for its capability to suppress noise and preserve image edges. Nevertheless, traditional total variation will inevitably yield undesirable staircase artifacts when applied to recorded images. Inspired by the success of ℓq norm minimization and overlapping group sparsity in image denoising, and the effective staircase artifacts removal by fractional total variation, the hybrid model which combines the fractional order total variation with overlapping group sparsity and higher order total variation with ℓq norm is developed in this paper to restore images corrupted by Gaussian noise. An efficient algorithm based on the parallel linear alternating direction method of multipliers is developed for solving the corresponding model and the numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach against several state-of-the-art methods, in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio and structure similarity index measure values
NRN-RSSEG: A Deep Neural Network Model for Combating Label Noise in Semantic Segmentation of Remote Sensing Images
The performance of deep neural networks depends on the accuracy of labeled samples, as they usually contain label noise. This study examines the semantic segmentation of remote sensing images that include label noise and proposes an anti-label-noise network framework, termed Labeled Noise Robust Network in Remote Sensing Image Semantic Segmentation (NRN-RSSEG), to combat label noise. The algorithm combines three main components: network, attention mechanism, and a noise-robust loss function. Three different noise rates (containing both symmetric and asymmetric noise) were simulated to test the noise resistance of the network. Validation was performed in the Vaihingen region of the ISPRS Vaihingen 2D semantic labeling dataset, and the performance of the network was evaluated by comparing the NRN-RSSEG with the original U-Net model. The results show that NRN-RSSEG maintains a high accuracy on both clean and noisy datasets. Specifically, NRN-RSSEG outperforms UNET in terms of PA, MPA, Kappa, Mean_F1, and FWIoU in the presence of noisy datasets, and as the noise rate increases, each performance of UNET shows a decreasing trend while the performance of NRN-RSSEG decreases slowly and some performances show an increasing trend. At a noise rate of 0.5, the PA (−6.14%), MPA (−4.27%) Kappa (−8.55%), Mean_F1 (−5.11%), and FWIOU (−9.75%) of UNET degrade faster; while the PA (−2.51%), Kappa (−3.33%), and FWIoU of NRN-RSSEG (−3.26) degraded more slowly, MPA (+1.41) and Mean_F1 (+2.69%) showed an increasing trend. Furthermore, comparing the proposed model with the baseline method, the results demonstrate that the proposed NRN-RSSEG anti-noise framework can effectively help the current segmentation model to overcome the adverse effects of noisy label training
