New source for L-iditol and taxanes
No full textWe describe the first report of the recovery of L-iditol and Taxane from an angiosperm- Yunnanopilia longistaminata (W.Z.Li) C.Y.Wu et D.Z.Li (Opiliaceae). Two taxane compounds and L-iditol were isolated from the tender burgeon of Yunnanopilia longistaminata, and their structure were identified as Taxayunnansin B, Taxumairol E and L-iditol on the basis of NMR and MS spectrum, respectively. It is a new plant source for L-iditol and taxanes
Can virtual water trade save water resources?
No full textAt times, certain areas of China suffering from water shortages. While China’s government is spurring innovation and infrastructure to help head off such problems, it may be that some water conservation could help as well. It is well-known that water is embodied in traded goods—so called “virtual water trade” (VWT). In China, it seems that many water-poor areas are perversely engaged in VWT. Further, China is also engaging on the global trend of fragmentation in production, even as an interregional phenomenon. It seems some implications could be learned about conserving or reducing VWT, if we knew where and how it is practiced. From those implications, perhaps policies could be formulated. We employ China’s multiregional input-output tables straddling two periods to trace the trade of a given region’s three types of goods: local final goods, local intermediate goods, and goods that shipped to other regions and countries. We find that goods traded interregionally in China in 2012 embodied 30.4% of all water used nationwide. Nationwide, water use increased substantially over 2007-2012 due to greater shipment volumes of water-intensive products. In fact, as suspected, the rise in value chain-related trade was a major overall contributing factor. Coastal areas tended to be net receivers of VTW from interior provinces, although reasons differed, e.g. Shanghai received more to fulfill its final demand and Zhejiang for its value-chain related trade. In sum, the variety of our findings reveals an urgent need to consider trade types and water scarcity when developing water resource allocation and conservation policies.Peer reviewe
Observation of Two Narrow States Decaying Into \Xi
No full textWe report the first observation of two narrow charmed strange baryons decaying to \Xi + c fl and \Xi 0 c fl, respectively, using data from the CLEO II detector at CESR. We interpret the observed signals as the \Xi +0 c (cfsug) and \Xi 00 c (cfsdg), the symmetric partners of the well-established antisymmetric \Xi + c (c[su]) and \Xi 0 c (c[sd]). The mass differences M (\Xi +0 c ) \Gamma M (\Xi + c ) and M (\Xi 00 c ) \Gamma M (\Xi 0 c ) are measured to be 107:8 \Sigma 1:7 \Sigma 2:5 and 107:0 \Sigma 1:4 \Sigma 2:5 MeV/c 2 , respectively. C. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Evolution of self-healing performance of UHPC exposed to aggressive environments and cracking/healing cycles
No full textThis paper investigates the resilience of UHPC's self-healing capabilities under aggressive environmental conditions and cracking/healing cycles. UHPC specimens ‘with a double-edged wedge splitting geometry were made, incorporating a commercial crystalline admixture (Penetron Admix®). The evaluation of UHPC's healing capacity involved subjecting pre-cracked samples to three different water immersion conditions: tap water, saltwater, and geothermal water. The closure of cracks during different curing periods was meticulously recorded using optical microscopy. Furthermore, specialized tests, including ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) measurements and splitting tensile tests, were conducted to quantify the recovery of mechanical properties. The results reveal that extended exposure results in a gradual closure of cracks, where salt water and geothermal water exhibit lower self-healing capabilities. Self-healing improves after the 1st crack/self-healing cycle but decline rapidly after the 2nd cycle. Mechanical property is strongly correlated with the extent of self-healing, and all samples display varying degrees of stiffness recovery, with the most pronounced recovery occurring after the 1st cycle. However, following the 2nd cycle, the stiffness recovery values decrease due to repeated loading, resulting in increased damage and a reduced number of reactive particles, thereby compromising self-healing and stiffness recovery. Despite enduring multiple instances of crack damage, UHPC samples still exhibit notable toughness recovery, underscoring the enduring efficacy of the self-healing mechanism even in challenging conditions
