WFP Dominican Republic country brief
The Dominican Republic Country Brief from the World Food Programme (WFP) for September 2025 provides an update on humanitarian interventions and capacity-building initiatives, with a focus on food security, school nutrition, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. The report highlights ongoing vulnerabilities related to climate shocks, inequality, and economic fluctuations, while detailing programs designed to support at-risk populations through transfers, technical assistance, and government partnerships. It also summarizes recent achievements, critical needs, and programmatic priorities, positioning WFP’s work as a key component of both the humanitarian response and the strengthening of inclusive food systems
State of School Feeding Worldwide 2013
In 2009, the World Bank (WB) and the World Food Programme (WFP), in collaboration
with the Partnership for Child Development (PCD), published an analysis called Rethinking
School Feeding. The analysis was undertaken to better understand the growing demand
from countries for school feeding programmes that was sparked by the food, fuel, and
financial crises of 2008.
This report seeks to build on the 2009 analysis and begin a systematic process to better
understand the strengths and challenges of school feeding programmes globally. It presents the current status of our understanding of school feeding.
Information was drawn from a global survey conducted by WFP in early 2012 and a series
of case studies and peer-reviewed technical working papers undertaken in collaboration
with partners. The analysis led to the identification of new areas that require more focused
attention. The report highlights these areas and outlines the current research agenda on
which WFP and its partners are currently collaborating
Hunger Without Borders. The hidden links between Food Insecurity, Violence and Migration in the Northern Triangle of Central America: An exploratory study
The World Food Programme during the Global Food Crisis (A) (709-024)
Rising food prices threatened an unprecedented number of people around the world with malnutrition or starvation in 2008. The new Executive Director of the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP)--the world's largest food relief agency-- must not only address this challenge but also must rethink the WFP's strategy in the rapidly-changing world of humanitarian assistance
Meta-analysis of the impact and lessons learned for implementation of the Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) programme in Turkey (2016–20). Part 2: Focus Areas 2 and 3
In 2019, the World Food Programme (WFP) in Turkey designed a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) based on data collected in wave 3 of its Comprehensive Vulnerability Monitoring Exercise (CVME), the CVME MPI. The purpose of the CVME MPI was to support programme targeting, to monitor programme outcomes, and to provide evidence-based recommendations for Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) programmatic adjustments.
As part of the meta-analysis of the ESSN programme in Turkey, this focus area report provides a review of the multidimensional measure used for the vulnerability analysis and its relationship with the ESSN programme’s targeting approach. It also analyses the potential adjustments needed to create a refugee-specific MPI for a possible use in other contexts.
This report was commissioned by WFP with funding from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO)
Examining Protection and Gender in Cash and Voucher Transfers: Case Studies of the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
This CaseStudy reports that over the years, many aspects of cash and voucher transfers have been analysed and studied, however, there has not been a substantive amount of study specifically devoted to protection and gender implications - both positive and negative - of such programming. In response, in October and November 2011, WFP conducted a literature review of previous studies of cash and voucher transfers to investigate whether cash and voucher transfers were working towards improving protection of, or at minimum doing no further harm to, beneficiaries, as well as what impacts they could have on gender and community dynamics. In addition, WFP headquarters sent a short questionnaire to their field offices to gather their observations on the impacts of cash and voucher transfers on protection and gender within their own programming
Towards a climate-smart and community-driven school feeding program: WFP-IIRR Scoping Mission Report to WFP Project Sites in Phongsaly Province, Lao PDR
The World Food Programme in Lao PDR has been implementing nutrition-focused interventions targeted for school kids through its School Meal Program targeted with complementary nutrition-sensitive interventions targeted for communities through its Agriculture for Nutrition Program and the Local and Regional Procurement Program. These nutrition-focused and nutrition-sensitive programs are further enhanced through the incorporation of climate change adaptation strategies in WFP project communities by piloting te climate-smart village approach in 5 WFP project sites in Phongsaly Province in Bountai and Samphanh districts. This report provides the analysis of the local situation of the 5 target villages as well as the recommendations for incorporating climate-considerations in WFP's nutrition-focused interventions in these villages. The analysis in this report were generated through a scoping mission conducted by WFP and IIRR team in February 2020
Estimating Cost of Conflict and Increasing Food Security In Southern Sudan
In order to meet humanitarian assistance programs, donor organizations like WFP need to procure food either locally or import it. Internal conflict may pose significant barriers to local and regional procurement programs like P4P. We develop a methodology to estimate the cost of conflict using a microeconomic setting. We examine the use of forward contracts to procure locally and derive a) what price should be paid to the suppliers, b) how should contracts be designed so that agents relinquish conflict and sign P4P contracts.Food Security and Poverty,
The Cost of Inaction: Impacts of WFP Refugee Assistance Shortfalls on Food Security Outcomes in Uganda
Uganda hosts the largest refugee population in Africa, which quadrupled from 390,000 to 1.6 million from 2014 to 2024. Most of these refugees are women, children, and older persons fleeing conflict in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia, or Sudan. In 2023, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) provided food assistance to 1.4 million of these refugees. It gave a 60% food ration to those deemed to be highly vulnerable and a 30% ration to the moderately vulnerable, while moving the least vulnerable refugees off monthly food assistance and connecting them to long-term livelihood opportunities. All new arrivals received a 100% food ration for the first three months. Most WFP food assistance—61% in 2023—was in the form of Cash-Based Transfers (CBT). A soaring demand for humanitarian assistance is straining an already underfunded WFP, which faced a funding gap of $110 million to sustain emergency operations through 2023 (WFP 2023, WFP 2024)
ANALISIS PROGRAM ZERO HUNGER WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP) DALAM MENGATASI KRISIS PANGAN DI ETHIOPIA TAHUN 2020-2024
The food crisis that has long plagued Ethiopia has attracted international attention, including that of the World Food Programme (WFP). This study analyzes the World Food Programme's (WFP) food aid program in addressing the food crisis in Ethiopia from 2020 to 2024. The study aims to analyze the food assistance programs provided to understand how the WFP has implemented its assistance in addressing the food crisis in Ethiopia. In conducting the analysis, the author employs a qualitative method, gathering data from books, journals, and online news sources. The theoretical framework used in this study is the Triple Nexus Approach with the concept of food crises. The results of the study indicate that approaches such as humanitarian-peace, development-peace, and humanitarian-development have been realized in the food assistance program to address the food crisis in Ethiopia.
