Hybrid Solar Cells with In-Situ Prepared Inorganic Nanoparticles/Polymer Bulk Heterojunction Films
Lead sulfide (PbS) nanoparticles were generated by the in-situ reaction of lead chloride (II) and sulfur in the presence of poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) dissolved in the co-solvents. Three different reaction times were used to examine the effect of the PbS reaction conditions. The in-situ generated PbS nanoparticles in the P3HT matrix were spherical with a diameter of 15~25 nm. The P3HT:PbS composite materials were mixed with a soluble fullerene derivative ([6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester-PCBM) for the fabrication of hybrid solar cells. The hybrid (P3HT:PCBM:PbS) solar cells exhibited similar performance to each other, but their performance was better than the control (P3HT:PCBM) solar cells. In particular, the optimized hybrid solar cells showed ca. 14% improved power conversion efficiency due to the larger increase in short circuit current density (~30%). This improvement was attributed to the PbS nanoparticles acting as electron acceptors and a minor contribution from scattering effect. Copyright © 2012 American Scientific Publishers.
Effect of Inorganic Nanoparticle Addition to the Hole-Collecting Buffer Layers in Polymer Solar Cells
We investigated the in?uence of nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles that are incorporated into the hole-collecting buffer layer [poly(3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)] on the performance of polymer:fullerene solar cells. To understand the optimum composition of NiO nanoparticles, the composition of NiO nanoparticles was varied from 0 wt% to 23 wt%. Results showed that the optical transmittance was gradually decreased as the NiO content increased. However, the device performance (short circuit current density, fill factor, series resistance, power conversion efficiency) exhibited a two stage trend in a boundary of ∼9 wt% NiO content. This trend was in good agreement with the trend of sheet resistance in the presence of slight discrepancy owing to the different charge transport geometry. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
In situ-prepared composite materials of PEDOT: PSS buffer layer-metal nanoparticles and their application to organic solar cells
We report an enhancement in the efficiency of organic solar cells via the incorporation of gold (Au) or silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) in the hole-transporting buffer layer of poly(3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), which was formed on an indium tin oxide (ITO) surface by the spin-coating of PEDOT:PSS-Au or Ag NPs composite solution. The composite solution was synthesized by a simple in situ preparation method which involved the reduction of chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) or silver nitrate (AgNO3) with sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solution in the presence of aqueous PEDOT:PSS media. The NPs were well dispersed in the PEDOT:PSS media and showed a characteristic absorption peak due to the surface plasmon resonance effect. Organic solar cells with the structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS-Au, Ag NPs/poly(3-hexylthiophene):[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PC61BM)/LiF/Al exhibited an 8% improvement in their power conversion efficiency mainly due to the enlarged surface roughness of the PEDOT:PSS, which lead to an improvement in the charge collection and ultimately improvements in the short-circuit current density and fill factor. © 2012 Woo et al.1
Efficient TiO2 Surface Treatment Using Cs2CO3 for Solution-Processed Planar-Type Sb2S3 Solar Cells
Abstract We report a highly effective surface treatment method for planar-type Sb2S3 solar cells by employing a Cs2CO3-modified compact TiO2 (c-TiO2) electron transport layer. It is found that surface treatment using a Cs2CO3 solution can shift the work function of c-TiO2 upward and reduce its surface roughness. As a result, compared with the power conversion efficiency of untreated solar cells, that of the treated solar cells with a glass/FTO/c-TiO2(/Cs2CO3)/Sb2S3/P3HT/Au structure significantly improved from 2.83 to 3.97%. This study demonstrates that the introduction of Cs2CO3 on a c-TiO2 layer is a simple and efficient way to adjust the work function of the electron transport layer and fabricate high-performance planar-type Sb2S3 solar cells
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
