A study on the interaction model for the interpretive exhibition design
2018.8,[vii, 91 p. :]In the 20th century—an age of mechanical reproduction—art faced a new era reconsidering the ways to record and represent the observable world with the emergence of photography and film. Whereas, in the 21st century with the advent of computers, the art of the digital age is accompanied by innovative changes from material-based artworks to art forms based on digitally generated virtual spaces. The concept of a virtual space in a broad sense can be found in pictorial virtual spaces starting with prehistoric cave paintings to the Renaissance paintings which were intended to create illusionary spaces. Chronically, the beginning of a virtual space that simultaneously realizes spatiality and temporality of the real world has taken off since the invention of film. After, the technologies of computer and internet have expanded the forms and meanings of virtual space to be immersive, responsive and connected. Along with a rapid progression of this digital technology, visual and performing arts have also transformed from being based on physical materials and spaces to being created through virtual spaces or within.
Accordingly, this dissertation aims to define the meaning and the attribute of virtual space and to propose a theoretical framework to reinterpret and classify virtual space mediated artworks. The principal elements forming the taxonomy framework are based on three attributes of virtual space: networked, responsive, and multi-layered. They were derived through investigating and comprehensively summarizing the existing digital aesthetic theories and concepts. In particular, the concept of 'multi-layered' extends from the literal meaning of synthesis of multiple layers to the figurative meaning of generation and transformation of images continuously and seamlessly composited. Based on these three attributes, I discuss and verify the framework and its artistic applications by empirically examining the cases of network performances, interactive arts, and visual effects in recent pop music videos.
Motion Level-of-Detail: A Simplification Method on Crowd Scene
Recent technological improvement in character animation has increased the number of characters that can appear in a virtual scene. Besides, skeletal and mesh structures are expected to be more complex in the future. Therefore, simulating massive characters' joints in a real-time crowd environment without any preprocessing is unaffordable. We propose a preprocessing method called 'motion level-of-detail' to overcome this limitation. Our 'motion level-of-detail' framework not only minimizes the simulation cost of the joints, but also maintains the similarity between the original and the simplified motion. 'Joint posture clustering (JPC)', which is the skeletal simplification method of our framework, reduces skeletal node by the clusters of similar postures. A cluster is a set of continuous frames, where each frame has similar posture. Because our approach depends on motion trajectory, simplified result preserves the quality of the motion. We also applied a geometric simplification on deformable character mesh, to increase performance. Our approach was particularly useful for the complex skeletal motions that have a monotonous trajectory.I
REGISTRATION OF A 3D MODEL ON A SINGLE IMAGE IN WIDE ANGLE AUGMENTED REALITY
International audienceThis paper presents a new design of a wide angle augmented reality (AR) system and an effectiveregistration method using a single image. The AR system is designed to meet three requirements: (1) thefield of view (FOV) of the AR system must be wide enough to view reference constructions in outdoorscenes; (2) the precise registration of virtual objects should be guaranteed at any position of the image;and (3) the registration should be valid after motion of the camera. We use camera calibration and calibration-free methodologies in our approach. The internalparameters of the camera are determined roughly by the camera calibration and how the distortioncoefficient of the camera lens is refined. The external parameters are determined by the calibration-freeapproach. At least four coplanar points forming a projected parallelogram are needed to construct theaffine coordinates that are used for the registration. The only presumed condition is that the userspecifies some projected parallelogram lines of the reference object interactively. The experimental results demonstrate the display prototype of the wide angle AR system with thedistorted images removed and registration of 3D virtual models in static and dynamic cameraenvironments

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
