The Reserve Price Optimization for Publishers on Real-Time Bidding on-Line Marketplaces with Time-Series Forecasting
Today's Internet marketing ecosystems are very complex, with many competing players, transactions concluded within milliseconds, and hundreds of different parameters to be analyzed in the decision-making process. In addition, both sellers and buyers operate under uncertainty, without full information about auction results, purchasing preferences, and strategies of their competitors or suppliers. As a result, most market participants strive to optimize their trading strategies using advanced machine learning algorithms. In this publication, we propose a new approach to determining reserve-price strategies for publishers, focusing not only on the profits from individual ad impressions, but also on maximum coverage of advertising space. This strategy combines the heuristics developed by experienced RTB consultants with machine learning forecasting algorithms like ARIMA, SARIMA, Exponential Smoothing, and Facebook Prophet. The paper analyses the effectiveness of these algorithms, recommends the best one, and presents its implementation in real environment. As such, its results may form a basis for a competitive advantage for publishers on very demanding online advertising markets
Measurement of national intellectual capital – application to EU countries
The aim of the article is to present both an alternative approach to measurement of intellectual capital of a country (IC) and a calculation of IC index. In order to achieve it, at first a definition of IC was adopted and a conceptual model of IC was worked out. Then, a method of operationalisation of conceptual model was elaborated, which comprised: 1. method of transforming the theoretical concept and relations into more concise ones that enabled the measurement sensu stricto, 2. selection of indicators of each component of IC, 3. adoption of appropriate method of aggregation of indicators. Finally the measurement of each component of IC and IC itself for UE countries was executed. Proposed method of IC measurement can be regarded as the extension of the proposals of Bontis (Bontis, 2004) and Andriessen and Stam (Andriessen, Stam, 2004). Thanks to the application of different approach to data aggregation the subjective decision concerning weights imposed on IC indicators made by Bontis was confirmed. Different factor loadings and resulting from them factor scores for each measurement model of components of IC and IC itself proved the indicators are not of the same importance. Although it could be useful and interesting to compare their relative importance, unfortunately it was impossible to conduct due to the lack of entire comparability of the indicators used. Strong correlation between IC index and GDP per capita indicated that there was a significant level of information carried by the IC index. First of all, it should be pointed out that IC probably explains significant part of the difference in the level of development of various countries. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Generative technologies in higher education - assessment of the current state, essential skills, and a proposal for a didactic method
Artykuł prezentuje propozycję wykorzystania technologii generatywnych, w szczególności dużych modeli językowych, w szkolnictwie wyższym. Technologie generatywne budzą wiele kontrowersji: z jednej strony oferują niespotykane dotąd możliwości, z drugiej zaś rodzą obawy o degradację funkcji poznawczych człowieka, możliwą eliminację niektórych zawodów czy zachowanie praw autorskich do wytworów intelektualnych. Celem artykułu jest zilustrowana przykładem propozycja integracji tych technologii z tradycyjnymi metodami nauczania. W pierwszej części przedstawiono kluczowe pojęcia i metody technologii generatywnych oraz refleksję na temat nowych zadań i kompetencji niezbędnych do możliwie pełnego wykorzystania ich potencjału. Następnie zaprezentowano propozycję wykorzystania technologii generatywnych w tradycyjnym procesie dydaktycznym podczas politechnicznego kursu sztuczna inteligencja w biznesie. Przedstawiono założenia metodyczne kursu, przykładowe raporty systemu generującego informację zwrotną dla studentów oraz schemat procesu dydaktycznego. Całość podsumowuje refleksja na temat możliwych szans i zagrożeń wykorzystania tych technologii w dydaktyce oraz rekomendacje dalszych badań.This article proposes the application of generative technologies, specifically large language models, in higher education. While such technologies present novel opportunities, at the same time, they raise concerns, including potential cognitive degradation, job displacement, and intellectual property issues. The first section of this paper introduces the essential concepts and methods of generative technologies, coupled with a discussion on the necessary competencies to fully harness their potential. The next section suggests an addition to usual teaching methods, using the 'Artificial Intelligence in Business' course as an example. This proposed enhancement incorporates a review of student work outcomes by systems powered by large language models. The underlying didactic principles of the course, sample system reports, and an illustrative diagram of the teaching process are presented. The paper concludes by contemplating the possible advantages and challenges posed by these technologies in pedagogy, along with recommendations for future research
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
