    No full text
Pierwsza część artykułu poświęcona została osobie Leona Borowskiego, wileńskiego profesora Wymowy i Poezji, cenionego badacza polskiej estetyki literackiej. Przede wszystkim zaakcentowano w niej rolę, jaką odegrał Borowski w historii polskiej literaturoznawczej dydaktyki akademickiej. W okresie przemiany oświeceniowo-romantycznej był on jednym z mistrzów, którzy wychowali całe grono polskich romantyków. The first part of this work presents information on the life of Leon Borowski, Vilnius University Professor of Oration and Poetry and highly-regarded scholar of Polish literary aesthetics. Equine piroplasmosis

    No full text
Equine piroplasmosis (EP), is a tick-borne disease caused by Theileria equi and Babesia caballi. EP affects all domestic and wild equids and the clinical signs are related to intravascular haemolysis. The illness is present in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions and is maintained in susceptible host population as long as competent vectors occur. Piroplasmosis remains a vast problem in horse industry as clinical manifestations lead to abortions, withdrawal from training due to the condition deterioration and even to death. Difficulties with diagnosis and treatment make the illness even more serious, as the medical protocol without harmful side-effects hasn’t been established. Even though multiple attempts were done, the vaccine is unavailable

A Short Play on the Idea of Laffer Curve in Transition Economies

    No full text
Very strong emotions have accompanied the idea of the Laffer Curve from the very beginning. This simple analysis does not try to solve the discussion. The author has constructed the (TBI-Tax Burden Index), a special measure of taxes. The special feature of this measure is that it tries to take into account both tax rates and tax ceilings while measuring the average taxation. The ensuing analysis gives us some evidence of the presence of some kind of the Laffer-like relationship in countries analysed. It shows that the Laffer Curve for these three countries can be bell shaped. On the other hand this relationship does not seem to play an important role in determining budget revenues in these countries. It seems that differences in revenues among countries are more the result of other factors specific to each country. Therefore, even if the main objective of a government is to maximize revenues, it should not pay to much attention to this issue, it would do much better trying to make tax system as simple as possible, minimizing both incentives and possibilities for tax evasion and tax avoidance.Laffer Curve, transition economies

The author of the article analyses the particular structure of dramatic form related to the motif of journey to Bethlehem, that is Nativity Play. Using the Maria Renata Mayenowa’s reflections on the semantic potential of this form, the author analyses its specific productions. The comparison between works by Lucjan Rydel and Marian Pankowski focuses mainly on reflections considering the unique narratic form of a dramatic text, tightly related to the biblical gospel. The authors sees possibilities to grasp this problem in a modern fashion by analyzing the moments in which the viewpoints of particular characters from both works cross with the space-time organized by the dramatic subject. The field for communications, hence obtained, reflects the position occupied by the dramatic subject. By defining it accurately, we are given a chance to recreate the communications schemes of both works and to notice the transformations of biblical narration characteristic of dramatic art.Autorka artykułu analizuje szczególną strukturę formy dramatycznej związanej z motywem wędrówki do Betlejem czyli jasełek.

The aim of this review was to summarize studies on equine rhodococcosis over the last decade. For many years Rhodococcus equi has remained one of the major health challenges in the equine breeding industry worldwide. Recently, many novel approaches and ideas have been described and some of them were initially implemented into the clinical practice. This study reviews a variety of new information about neonatal susceptibility, clinical appearance, considered and applied diagnostic procedures and treatment alternatives, factors limiting accurate prognosis, ideas regarding environmental management and prophylaxis considerations. Although multiple research were conducted, the main problems such as high morbidity and mortality, a lack of reliable prevention strategies and treatment limitations are still unresolved and require further scientific effort

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Poznań School of Economics (1926—1966) the author takes a synthetic view of all scientific researches made there mainly between 1957 and 1966. The survey is to characterize the part played by the Poznań College in scientific and economic life. The author begins his short view with the outline of the organizational structure of the College in its present state and then goes over to contemplating the forms and possibilities of the influence which a high school of economics can exert upon the framing of economic thought and the practice of economic life. After having stated that the position of a school of university status as well as its character and intensity of its influence are, to a large extent, conditioned by trie level, scope and results of scientific research made, the author presents a synthetic survey of the basic problems worked out in the College during the last ten years i.e. in a period when scientific thought had no longer encountered any obstacles and restrictions connected with the past stage of scientific schematism and conformity. The author groups the problems according to their belonging to different fields and disciplines and in particular to political economy of capitalism and socialism, planning and economic policy, branch economics (industry, home trade, international trade, agriculture, transport), sociology, statistics, finance and insurance, economic geography, economic history, law, accounting, cooperation, product determination and chemistry. The author points out that the College concentrates its interest on the most up to date problems, both theoretical and connected with the practice of economic life during the period of reconstruction of the system of management and control of national economy. The author also emphasizes the frequent participation of scientific workers of the College in the economic life of the country, as well as their active part taken in the exchange of scientific thought between scientists from Poland and abroad, by attending different scientific meetings and conferences and by their personal, individual scientific contacts.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201

The article shows the usefulness of the method of investigation applied 50 years ago by professor Przemyslaw Zwolinski. This outstanding investigator of history of Slavonic languages used a term “language biography” when he was elaborating the language of writings of Marcin Bielski. The same term was used to describe the phenomenon of poetry written by Lucjan Boruta, folk sculptor from Drohiczyn. This author of thrilling religious poems was born in very poor, uneducated family. When he was young, World War II broke out, Lucjan graduated to primary school only. He spent a great part of his life working as sacristan in a parish of Drohiczyn. In his free time Lucjan was writing poetry and keeping a diary, he was also carving in wood. The crucial moment in his life was the accident, whisch left him disabled. The application of the “language biography” method helps to understand the very high artistic level of Lucjan Boruta’s poetry

The author of the study deals with the topival question of national identity, in this case a wider question of the identity of the Slavs. There are several opinioons, most often contradictory. One is based on the presupposition that there are no Slavs in fact; there are but separate nations speaking Slavonic languages. The other accentuates common places, loci communes, not only the language, but also some other qualities, such as mentality, history etc. The third, more or less compromising, is based on the conviction that in this historical stage of development of mankind, in the era of globalisation the Slavonic identity is not so important and topical. The author manifests the significant role of the volitional aspect of the whole process: the most important thing is the Slavs' will to be identified as a specific ethnical layer in Europe. This, of course, depends on many factors of both the present and the future. The author of the study deals with the topival question of national identity, in this case a wider question of the identity of the Slavs. There are several opinioons, most often contradictory.
