Wiktor Woroszylski, The part played by Adam Mickiewicz. as an intermediary between the genius of Pushkin and the opinion of the French literary world.
The present article examines the role of the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz as an intermediary between Pushkin and the French public opinion in the late 1830's and early 1840's, acquainting the literary circles of France with the Russian poet's work, life history and their significance in the context of Russian society and culture. At the time, Pushkin was not well known in the West. Though the circumstances of his death had awakened attention, the lack of good translations and ignorance of the specificity of Russian life did not contribute to a good understanding of the poet's destiny. Mickiewicz - then an emigre in Paris - was the first to expound (in the necrology he published in Le Globe and in his lectures at the College de France) the determining influence exercised by the power then ruling in Russia on the fate that had overtaken the poet. Woroszylski Wiktor. Два часа в резервуаре by Iosif Brodski vs. its variant by Wiktor Woroszylski Dwie godziny w zbiorniku as an example of translating intertextual elements and an intertextualized text
The article considers the translation by Wiktor Woroszylski of various types of intertextual elements included by Iosif Brodski in his poem (In English – Two hours in the tank). Regardless of the different translation decisions and noticeable associative shifts that concern specific intertextual elements, the translation as a whole should be considered successful. Nevertheless, in the course of the analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that in the case of an intertextualized text (one that is saturated with intertextual elements), the preservation in the translation of the associative chains that make up the network of intertextual associations is more important than the adequacy of the specific elements of the text
"You write letters just like books" : on the correspondence of Wiktor Woroszylski with Jerzy Stempowski, Jerzy Giedroyc and Zbigniew Żakiewicz
The aim of this article is to analyze the collection of letters between Wiktor Woroszylski and the writers: Jerzy Stempowski, Jerzy Giedroyc and Zbigniew Żakiewicz. It is based on two volumes of Woroszylski's letters, published in 2020. The paper reveals a letter as genre, which can be read as an evidence of a writer's life, a historical document, as well as a commentary on a legacy. The first three parts of the text include an analysis of the collection of letters. It traces the characteristics of the relationships between the correspondents and the main subjects of the conversations along with the crucial writing strategies. The last part covers a wider reflection on the epistolographic work of Woroszylski. Firstly, the key features of the letter as a genre are considered, i.e. its performativity, dialogicality (connected with the relation between "you" and "I") and at the same time conversion between the personal and textual self. Secondly, the main issue of the paper reveals Woroszylski as an author, a man, a correspondent and an activist but also shows how he manifests himself in the letters. The main purpose is to present Woroszylski as a subject of epistolary writing. It means that he has to be considered as a real person at a specific point in life as well as in the instance related to the situation of the text. It is related to the author's self-creation in two meanings of this word: self-presentation and self-conceptualization. Nevertheless, the image of Woroszylski remains internally consistent and, furthermore, it is compatible with his biographical and creative portrait. To conclude it must be admitted that his epistolography should be examined among the writer's other works, because, as a genre, letters refer to the real world and require both textual and non-textual references
Kto wiedzie rewolucjonistów? O funkcjonalizmie translatorskim w niektórych polskich wersjach Dwunastu Aleksandra Błoka
The article consists of three parts. In the first part, the author interprets the poem of A. Blok as a modernist variant of a “Petersburg Text”, in the second – proposes and explains the formula of the “translation functionalism”, and in the third part, uses it in the analysis of the three Polish translations of The Twelve. The author proves that each of the translators: Wacław Denhoff-Czarnocki, Seweryn Pollak and Wiktor Woroszylski choose a different principle of coherence of the text. This is shown both in the modeling of the city area as well as the social features of the characters. Consequently, three different interpretations of enigmatic epilogue are created, in which the revolutionaries are preceded by Christ carrying a “bloody flag”.The article consists of three parts.
„Przełożenie” w zasadzie odtwarza charakter pierwotnego tekstu.
Odwzorował on również nienumeryczną strukturę wiersza, lecz z
zastosowaniem polskich charakterystyk wiersza wolnego.
Przywłaszczony fragment dziennika Wiktora Woroszylskiego w oczach konsultanta ps. „Olcha”
Wiktor Woroszylski był jednym z najdłużej internowanych literatow. Od 13 grudnia 1981 do 18 października 1982 r. przebywał w ośrodkach odosobnienia w Warszawie-Białołęce, Jaworzu i Darłowku. 20 lutego 1982 r., podczas przeszukania, strażnicy odebrali mu 99-stronicowy fragment pisanego w odosobnieniu dziennika. Obszerny fragment przejętego od poety rękopisu przekazano do analizy będącemu na etacie Służby Bezpieczeństwa literatowi Wacławowi Sadkowskiemu ps. „Olcha”.
