Martin Wickremasinghe as a critic a reading of his essays in english
This study seeks to find out the literary theory of Martin Wickremasinghe as manifested in his essays. From 1951 to 1975 Wickremasinghe wrote 88 essays in English and they all appeared in 7 books. It is this body of literature that the researcher has analyzed.Using James lieu\u27s framework and concentrating on the text with the help of critical tools found in Dumoulin, 1976 Freud, 1988 Tomkins, 1980 and Wellek and Warren, 1949 the researcher examined Martin Wickremasinghe\u27s greatness as a guru in the definitions of literature, elements, as well as in the functions of literature found in all his seven books of essays.Martin Wickremasinghe, the writer, is also above all a universal guru who crossed frontiers and pushed back many in order to teach the Ceylonese nation how to live the life of a Buddhist according to the tenets of Buddhism preached by Buddha, the Enlightened One. Finally, his love for the Russians is unsurpassable. He always looked to Russian writers for support and strength for life\u27s problems. Because to him the life of the Russian peasants is an example of patience and endurance and to see a semblance in their lives the type of life that Martin Wickremasinghe has read in the birth stories of Buddha and the Russian novel. After having examined Wikremasinghe\u27s literary career in all his essays, the researcher said that Martin Wikremasinghe has a clear idea about literature and that he has exposed it in all his essays

Beyond the focus group: Two approaches to widening participation co-creation
This chapter explores the extensive complications that arise from a lack of clear direction regarding a cocreative way of working, before attempting to provide a much-needed definition. By exploring the literature and evidence that surrounds co-creation, several clear gaps have been identified, including within a school or professional services environment, which helps situate our two projects – the Student Advisory Board and Youth Consultant Project – within the wider field of co-creation. With our experiences of managing these projects, we offer our perspective on the benefits of tailoring co-creative methods to specific projects and offer examples of best practice for working in this way, while acknowledging existing challenges and barriers and suggesting ways to overcome these. We finish with a series of tiered recommendations – for the sector, for institutions, and for practitioners – that will allow this way of working to become more than just a tokenistic box-ticking exercise, and for student experiences to truly become the centre of how we allwork
p53 and Notch signaling in chronic lymphocytic leukemia: clues to identifying novel therapeutic strategies
The p53 tumor suppressor protein has a key role in the induction of apoptosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. Abnormalities within the p53 pathway identify a subset of patients with a poor prognosis. This review describes recent advances in understanding the mechanisms that regulate p53 levels and the role of p53 in the control of the cell cycle and of apoptosis. The classical model of p53-mediated apoptosis emphasizes the transcriptional activation of proapoptotic genes. In contrast, a novel model emphasizes p53's non-transcriptional actions as the major route of apoptosis induction, whereas its transcriptional arm predominantly upregulates antiapoptotic genes, thus providing a negative feedback mechanism that limits apoptosis. Further studies have identified the Notch pathway as a candidate p53-induced antiapoptotic mechanism. In contrast to the classical model, the novel model predicts that pharmacological inhibition of p53's transcriptional function or of the Notch signaling pathway will augment apoptosis induction by cytotoxic agents. Therapeutic strategies based on the novel model, which we review here for the first time, may significantly augment the antitumor actions of cytotoxic agents in CLL and in other malignancie
Recommendations from the Village Health Worker Scheme Sustainability Study: Based on the third round of data collection (November – December 2018)
These recommendations have emerged from several in-depth qualitative interviews and 13 focus group discussions with stakeholders involved in the Village Health Worker Scheme in Gombe state, Nigeria. Much work has been done to ensure the sustainability of the scheme, yet there are still some areas of uncertainty, which it would be beneficial to consider writes Deepthi Wickremasinghe. The recommendations for sustainability are for those involved in implementing the scheme, and for national and state governments considering setting up a similar scheme

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
