    Die Disziplin der biologischen Klänge gibt es seit vielen Jahrzehnten unter dem Titel Bioakustik. Walter Tilgner ist ein Pionier dieser Richtung, der Situationen, Forsten, Töne einzelner Tierarten aufzeichnet, analysiert und sogar künstlerisch nutzt. Sein Arbeitsinstrument dafür ist das ganzheitliche Rundum-Hören mit dem Kunstkopf, einem Mikrofon, das die Klänge wie der Mensch aufnimmt. Tilgner arbeitet zu seinem Thema, das für ihn ein Lebensmotiv ist, in weltweiter Zusammenarbeit. Noch immer durchwandert er die Wälder in Europa und kultiviert seine eigenen Erfahrungen mit dem Ohr. Durch seine weltweiten Kontakte und die inzwischen stark gewachsene Szene des Field-Recording haben sich noch mehr wissenschaftliche und künstlerische Aspekte eingewoben. Von der Bioakustik reicht das Spektrum bis zur Biophonie, dem Lebensklang, einer fast philosophischen und medizinischen Denkweise. Hier ist vor allem die Zusammenarbeit mit Bernie Krause, einem Künstler-Forscher in Kalifornien wichtig, der das Thema weltweit vernetzt und vorantreibt.The research about biological sounds exists since many decades as Bioacoustics, where Walter Tilgner is a pioneer of recording and analyzing situations and forests, as welll as single species or even artistic applications of those recordings. His instrument is the artificial head microphone, a real head with surround reception. Tilgner works in worldwide communication with his theme, which is a life motiv, as he still is wandering in the forests in Europe and cultivating his own ear experience. After internships in hospitals in Berlin, Munich and Karlsruhe he accepted pediatric residency in Karlsruhe for a period of two years before he opened a pediatric practice in Offenburg in 1928.In 1931, Hans Werner Bloch married Elsa Bloch, née Moeller (1900 - 1985), who was a technical assistant at the Hygienische Institut Danzig. Hans Werner Bloch immigrated to New York City in 1936, and Elsa Bloch and their first daughter Dorothy Bloch (1933-2012) joined him later the same year. The family moved to Elmira, NY where Hans Werner Bloch opened a pediatric practice in 1937 and became school physician in 1942. In 1947 the couple’s second child, Thomas Bloch, was born in Elmyra, NY.     Local correlation methods with a natural localized molecular orbital basis

    Natural localized molecular orbitals (NLMOs) have been used in local correlation calculations. For a test set of 30 molecules it is shown that the results obtained with NLMOs and Pipek–Mezey localization are very similar. However, NLMOs are much less sensitive to the basis set, in particular when diffuse functions are used. Based on natural population analysis (NPA) a new method to determine the domains in local correlation methods is proposed. It is demonstrated that this yields domains that are very insensitive to the choice of the basis set. For all 30 molecules the same domains are obtained with six different basis sets ranging from cc-pVDZ to aug-cc-pVQZ. This allows one to define the local correlation methods more uniquely than with previous methods

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    High-level Ab-initio Calculations for Astrochemically Relevant Polyynes (HC2nH), their Isomers (C2nH2) and their Anions (C2nH-)

    The astrochemically relevant molecules of type HC2nH, C2nH2 and C2nH- (n = 2-4) have been investigated theoretically by means of both standard and explicitly correlated coupled Cluster theory. Equilibrium Structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies have been calculated for all nine species. Accurate Values for the molar enthalpies of isomerization of the C2nH2 species and for the molar enthalpies of the dissociative electron attachment reactions C2nH2 + e(-) -> C2nH- + H (both at 0 K) are predicted. Both quantities differ Substantially from the results of previous hybrid density functional (B3LYP) calculations. The explicitly correlated CCSD(T)-F12a method in conjunction with Dunning's aug-cc-pVTZ basis is found to yield results in excellent agreement with standard CCSD(T) calculations With much larger basis sets.Fonds der Chemischen Industrie; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft [1145
