Students, alumni, faculty, and guests visit the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Student Wellness Center daily. Two frequent use areas are the North and South gyms. These gyms contain weightlifting areas with dumbbells and benches, as well as cardio equipments such as stationary bicycles and treadmills. Several factors may affect the bacterial diversity on equipment over time such as personal hygiene, surface cleaning, disinfection schedules of the facility, and number of people using the gym and each equipment type. However, it is also suspected that microbial communities could be unique to each gym area and equipment type. This study aimed to determine the microbial diversity on the surfaces of select gym equipments and how they change throughout the day in both the North and South gyms. Surface swabs of 3 treadmills, 3 benches, and 3 dumbbells from each north and south gym were collected upon the gym opening at 6 am. This sample collection was repeated for each equipment type and each gym again at 10:30 pm before gym closure. DNA was extracted from these samples and underwent PCR and submitted for sequencing of the 16SrRNA bacterial gene for identification of bacterial species. We are currently awaiting 16S sequence data for analysis. However, we expect to see differences between morning and evening microbial communities, due mainly to increased usage, across gym equipments. We also anticipate possible differences between North and South Gyms due to the equipment types and user traffic available at each

The term wellness is generally used to mean a state of being beyond the absence of illness. Psychophysical wellness is one of the eight types of wellness that is achieved through architectural design. This thesis gives solution to a specific architectural competition invited by 'Young Architects Competition' to provide a club design for fitness, beauty and wellness facilities. F.I.CO C.A.A.B has succeeded to display the wide food culture and tradition of Bologna and Emiglia Romagna region to the world by establishing the Eataly food theme park. Further it aims to provide a wellness club located kilometres away from the noisy city center of Bologna amidst the tranquility of the open fields in Quarto Inferiore. The project development was initiated at the urban level to integrate accessibility to the project site to the more known Bologna center. At the local level design of wellness club is rooted in its neighbourhood. Eventually an interesting tourist link is established between the club and Eataly food theme Park. Vacant or 'for-sale' buildings in the direct vicinity of the club are proposed with new functions. This revitalises the neighbourhood and gives a more convincing reason for the inhabitants of village of Quarto Inferiore to go to the otherwise industrial zone. Throughout the process consideration was made to make the design sustainable. In view of global temperature rise to intolerable level and natural resource depletion building strategies were adopted that reduces the annual energy consumption and yet maintain thermal and visual comfort for users. A structurally sound building design in reinforced concrete cast-on-site has been adopted. The design complied with the standard energy efficient building solutions developed in Europe. It is a project that invokes the feeling of relaxation and revitalisation despite its isolated location in the countryside

In an aging society, maintaining longevity, mobility, and cognitive and physical health is of utmost importance. The Marymount University Center for Optimal Aging (MCOA), located in the heart of Arlington, VA, which was named by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as one of ‘America’s Fittest Cities’ on seven following consecutive years, provides a unique opportunity to deliver timely, proactive, and interdisciplinary community-based health programs that are accessible to all community-dwelling older adults. In addition, the MCOA has the potential to contribute to the field of precision medicine by studying key health risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease as well as unmet health needs of our older adults in key community areas. In an innovative interdisciplinary collaboration between the Center for Optimal Aging and many academic programs within Marymount University (MU) such as Physical Therapy, Health and Human Performance, Health Economics, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, and Biomechanical Engineering, our team is launching the “Arlington Longitudinal Optimal Healthy Aging Study (ALOHA): A Passport to Wellness.” This research program has an interdisciplinary health risk factor management-to-wellness framework to address multiple dimensions of health and manage health risk factors to best support older adults in the DMV area aging well and in place. The study team will also work closely with MU students, following the academic professional preparation model, Interprofessional Education and Development (IPED), which has been widely used to train health sciences students to value and learn how to work as a team to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. MU students from multiple health profession disciplines will learn hands-on research skills and gain experience working with older adults, supporting their careers, and contributing to a national need for an expanded gerontological workforce

In early summer 2015, a local newspaper reported on adults in the Omaha-metro area joining in on adult coloring. While a student coloring club formed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall, no such organization existed at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Capitalizing on the growing adult coloring trend and local interest, Criss Library held several events entitled “Color Me Calm” during the 2015-2016 academic year, both independently and during a campus-wide event known as “De-Stress Fest.” This event is held in partnership multiple departments and groups across the UNO campus, including the Academic and Career Development Center, Civic and Social Responsibility, Maverick Productions, Student Involvement, Student Government, UNO Bookstore, and Wellness Subdivision. Collaborating with these organizations put “Color Me Calm” on the official list of activities and strengthened our partnerships with these departments

ArquitectoPregradoIn the municipality of Contratación, Santander, a project for a comprehensive wellness center for the elderly is implemented, with the objective of improving the quality of life of older adults in a state of extreme and moderate vulnerability, through a set of functional and accessible spaces for each of the residents, where it promotes a social exchange and generates a fully human coexistence, through spatial connection and integration with nature. Within the framework of the design system, one of the main challenges to be faced is the optimal use of each square meter of the lot previously acquired by the mayor's office, given its high percentage of slope and the reduced space to accommodate many people. These spatial limitations require an efficient and functional approach. Therefore, the project takes the principles of gerontoarchitecture, universal accessibility and sensory design; ensuring that, despite the restrictions of the lot, a comfortable, functional and adapted space is created for the needs of the elderly

In the 21st century, rapid technological advancements have transformed the way we live, introducing new challenges in maintaining mental and physical well-being. Despite advancements in technology and robotics, we face unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and mental disturbances. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated this shift, altering work, education, and social interactions, and heightening stress and anxiety levels.
