An extension of min/max flow framework
In this paper, the min/max flow scheme for image restoration is revised. The novelty consists of the fol-
24 lowing three parts. The first is to analyze the reason of the speckle generation and then to modify the
25 original scheme. The second is to point out that the continued application of this scheme cannot result
26 in an adaptive stopping of the curvature flow. This is followed by modifications of the original scheme
27 through the introduction of the Gradient Vector Flow (GVF) field and the zero-crossing detector, so as
28 to control the smoothing effect. Our experimental results with image restoration show that the proposed
29 schemes can reach a steady state solution while preserving the essential structures of objects. The third is
30 to extend the min/max flow scheme to deal with the boundary leaking problem, which is indeed an
31 intrinsic shortcoming of the familiar geodesic active contour model. The min/max flow framework pro-
32 vides us with an effective way to approximate the optimal solution. From an implementation point of
33 view, this extended scheme makes the speed function simpler and more flexible. The experimental
34 results of segmentation and region tracking show that the boundary leaking problem can be effectively
35 suppressed
Aesop's Fables (Burmese)
Here is a most unusual book. About its texts, I can say nothing except that there is a beginning T of C. The front cover presents a congeries of animal faces in color, appropriate for Aesop's fables. The book features full-page monochrome illustrations that are highly stylized and interpretative. Though I cannot find out more bibliographical information about this book, including where I found it, I do know that it won a Sarpay Beikhman translation award in 1954. Among the best of the twenty or so full-page illustrations, I would mention "The Bull and the Gnat" about halfway through the book (sorry, the pagination is in Burmese) and WL late in the book. Apparently there are 310 pages here. I believe that this Burmese-language book brings to 65 the total of languages represented in monolingual books in our collection. Ngwe Ta Yee is Min Yu Way's wife, and he himself is a recognized literary creator in Myanmar. This copy includes a pamphlet and a card in Burmese. What a great find!Language note: BurmeseTranslated by Min Yu Way & Ngwe Ta Ye
Mega-events and mega-ambitions: South Korea’s rise and the strategic use of the big four events
This book provides a holistic analysis of South Korea’s strategic use of mega-events in its modern development. It examines the Summer Olympics (1988), the World Expo (1993), the FIFA World Cup (2002), and the Winter Olympics (2018) over the past 30 years of the country’s rapid growth, and across varying stages of economic and political development. It explains how mega-events helped to secure South Korea’s position on the international stage, boost nationalism, propel economic growth in export-oriented national companies, and build cities that accommodate – as well as represent – South Korea’s progress. It thereby highlights the broader implications for today’s global phenomenon of increasing reliance on mega-events as a catalyst for development, while the criticism that mega-events do more harm than good proliferates. The book is ideal for academics, policymakers, and those with an interest in mega-events and their role in the development of non-western countries.1. Zeng Min's study of the Yu Gong
In the Song Dynasty, the study of the Shang Shu was entering in a brand new age. Scholars was began engaged in special research on the Yu Gong, many academic works are formed .But, a lot of academic works to become nonextant, the Northern Song dynasty ''s was more than the Southern Song dynasty''s.
To observed and studied, some lost articles of the nonextant academic works, could be found in the academic works of the Shang Shu and the Yu Gong. Besides, Zeng Min''s discussion on the Yu Gong, quoted by many scholars.
Zeng Min, a scholar of the Northern Song dynasty, his Shang Shu Chiang Yih was become nonextant. Shang Shu Chiang Yih , isn''t the academic works of the Yu Gong, but its detailedly studied on the Yu Gong.
In order to revive the nonextant academic works of the Yu Gong, compiling ancient books is the only way to go.
This text collected 371 lost works of Shang Shu Chiang Yih from 189 academic works of the Shang Shu and the Yu Gong in the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The 371 lost works of Shang Shu Chiang Yih, which are unseen in the various collection of the Shang Shu and the Yu Gong, and neglected by the related scholars. Therefore, this text studied for Zeng Min''s Study of the Yu Gong.
This text comprised two parts.Part one, the first chapter to the eighth chapter, were discussed Zeng Min''s study of the Yu Gong. The first chapter is an introduction about this text. The second chapter to the eighth chapter, in proper sequence Ji State, Yan State, Qing State, Shiu State, Yang State, Jing State for each chapter. In each chapter, to summarized 371 lost works into scriptures of tne Yu Gong. Each scriptures to become one section, to amount to eighteen sections. The eighth chapter is the conclusion.
Each sections includes the lost works to formulate, a doubtful point of the lost works, the study of the Yu Gong prior to the Song Dynasty, the study of the Yu Gong in the Song Dynasty, the original idea of Zeng Min''s study of the Yu Gong, predecessor''s appreciation of Zeng Min, distinguished Zeng Min''s study of the Yu Gong, the influence of Zeng Min, to amount to eight projects.
Part two, is appendixes. Appendixe one, is bibliography of 189 academic works into one format. Appendixe two, is the 371 lost works of Shang Shu Chiang Yih.
This text discussed Zeng Min''s study of the Yu Gong, could find Zeng Min had much innovation, his idea of“Yu did his work at Hu-kou, and took effective measures at the mountains Liang and Qi. ”, “Nine Branches”, “Three Rivers”, “Nine Rivers”, were commented by many scholars. The distinguishing feature of Zeng Min''s study of the Yu Gong includes following three:had much innovation, didn''t dislike Con Zhuan、Zheng Yih, to quoted or to oppose the study of the Yu Gong in the Song Dynasty.
This text to make reference to the study of the Yu Gong of all the past dynasties, collected 371 lost works of Shang Shu Chiang Yih, could make up for what is missing in the study of the Yu Gong of the Northern Song dynasty, manifested the theory of Zeng Min.

Appropriations of Irish drama by modern Korean nationalist theatre : a focus on the influence of Sean O’Casey in a colonial context
My thesis explores how a translated author on the periphery of the host culture’s
translated repertoire can be at once subversive and innovative on the colonial scene,
using as an example the case of Sean O’Casey in colonial Korea. It explores the
importation of Irish drama in modern Korean theatre during the colonial period and
examines the appropriations of O’Casey’s plays by a central Korean playwright, Yu
Chi-jin, in creating his own plays. Under Japanese colonial rule in the early twentieth
century, intellectuals perceived the supreme task for the Korean people to be the
recovery of national sovereignty and independence. The modern Korean theatre
movement which rose among Korean intellectuals and dramatists during the colonial
period was to play a major part in this task. The ultimate goal of this movement was
to establish a modern national theatre promoting Korean culture and educating the
people, thereby recovering national independence. As their modernised dramatic
polysystem was still "young", Korean intellectuals and dramatists who were
involved in the theatre movement had to borrow dramatic models from other
countries. One of the models they chose was Irish playwrights, especially those who
were involved in the Irish dramatic movement. They published or staged the works
of W.B. Yeats, Lord Dunsany [Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett], Augusta
Gregory, J.M. Synge, St. J. Ervine, T.C. Murray and Sean O'Casey. Although
O'Casey was considered an important dramatist in the Irish dramatic movement, he
was a playwright on the periphery in the list of translated Irish dramatists in Korea
due to the colonisers’ censorship. However, he remained as a subversive and
innovative playwright on the colonial scene by virtue of being appropriated by Yu
Chi-jin who used O’Casey’s plays as models when creating his own works. In
discussing the subject matter of my thesis, I use Even Zohar’s polysystems theory as
a starting point in looking at ideological issues surrounding translation and extend
the discussion to offer a postcolonial perspective. While most translation in a
colonial context was considered as "an expression of the cultural power of the
colonisers," my thesis shifts the focus to translation as an expression of the cultural
power of the colonised. I explore how the colonised uses another colonised culture to
subvert the colonisers’ power
Li Yu xi qu zhong de li shi cheng xian yu min jian mian xiang
M.Phil.As one of the most important playwrights in late imperial China, Li Yu and his plays have long been discussed by researchers. However, many of them have underestimated the significance of Li Yu’s double identity of being, simultaneously, a member of the literati and a professional playwright of the urban theatre. Focusing on the representations of history in Li Yu’s plays, this thesis aims to explore how he negotiated influence from the two identities in his works. It is argued that in most of these plays he managed to deliver his care for the commoner audience, including providing them with theatrical entertainment and a mirror of daily life during the Ming-Qing transition, while expressing his personal concerns and feelings as a literatus. There are seven chapters in this thesis. Chapter One reviews the research history on Li Yu in the past century and raises the above topic of negotiation in question. Chapter Two to Five focus on four of Li Yu’s plays in chronological order, namely Qingzhong pu, Qianzhong lu, Liang xumei and Wanli yuan. All of the four plays were written meticulously as a kind of history, local or national. These four chapters illustrate the ways in which Li Yu combined his personal feelings, reflections on history, empathy with the common people, and equally important, his dramatic artistry. In Chapter Six, Qilin ge and Niutou shan were treated as examples of how popular legends about heroic figures in history such as Qin Qiong and Yue Yun were recreated by Li Yu for the commercial urban theatre in Suzhou. Chapter seven concludes the above discussions. The personal feelings and social cares shown in Li Yu’s plays came from real-life issues. Li not only recorded historical changes and social problems of his time, but also expressed his attitude towards the Qing government after the fall of Ming. By examining Li Yu’s attitude, this research also sheds light on Li Yu’s state of mind in later life, which has seldom been mentioned in the study of this dramatist. Thesis M.Phil. An empirical analysis on determinants of demand for best sellers: \ue2Books\ue2 online book store
The study empirically investigates the factors, including book-specific characteristics and book information on user interface, affecting demand for best-selling books, and the determinants of book price. By using random sampling approach, 1831 books were selected from \ue2Books\ue2 online book store; we used logistic regression to analyze these data. The results show that foreign books and more words for recommendation tend to be best sellers; in addition, the results also indicate the books that were made into movies or games, winning the literally prize, and more Taiwanese celebrities recommendation have positive and significant effect on the probability of being the best sellers. We also found that famous author without introduction on interface have higher probability as best sellers. Though the words for book introduction is not significant in the model, its interaction with online search times of the author is significant. Moreover, we found that cost of books is the major factor influencing price
