ABSTRACT The subject of the research was to compare the content of capsaicinoids in pericarp with their content in whole fruits, mixed and pressed through sieves. The research material was constituted by fruit of three soft-flesh lines of F 6 generation selected from interspecific hybrids of Capsicum frutescens L. × Capsicum annuum L. and one breeding line of C. frutescens L. The analysis of the capsaicinoids content was made using HPLC method. Capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin content in all examined genotypes was always higher in the paste than in the pericarp. The several-times increase of the content of the discussed compounds was undoubtedly the consequence of the effect of their considerable amounts being released from the Paweł Nowaczyk, Lubosława Nowaczyk, Magdalena Banach, Ineza Król 100 interlocular septa and the placenta. Typically for each of the examined lines, a much higher content of capsaicin than dihydrocapsaicin was observed

AbstractImplementation of pharmaceutical care (PC) in Poland is of great importance to patients, who, on the one hand, often follow complex pharmacological treatment regimens recommended by several physicians of different specialties, and, on the other, take up the decision on self-treatment due to availability of OTC medications. The aim of the present study was to assess the opinion of both patients and physicians about implementation of PC service in Polish community pharmacies.A cross sectional study was carried out from September 2009 to September 2010 by a pharmacist (author of the study) on the basis of an anonymous questionnaire, where demand of physicians (n=104) and patients (n=202) for implementation of PC in a community pharmacy was assessed. The study was planned to determine the relationship between implementation of PC, cost and time of this service and patients’ and physicians’ socio-economic information.Responding patients (85.64%) and physicians (76.92%) unanimously confirmed the need for implementation of PC. Most people convinced of the service implementation were 88.89% of physicians under the age of 35 and all the respondents were over 65years of age (p=0.027), just as 93.33% with service lesser than 5years and 73.68% of respondents working a maximum of 20years (p=0.023). Mainly according to 90.00% of physicians with specialty in internal medicine and 92.59% of physicians of the group “Others” (p=0.012), PC should be implemented in pharmacies. Women more frequently than men reckoned that appointments with a pharmacist should last up to 15min (p=0.012). According to 77.78% of the youngest physicians and 83.33% of the oldest ones, appointments should last from 5 to 15min (p=0.049), and a similar opinion was shared by 80.77% of physicians without specialty and 77.78% of physicians of the group “Others” (p=0.0009). According to patients, the mean cost of the visit should be USD 7. Physicians most often assessed the mean cost of the appointment at USD 14.This study provides new data about implementation of PC in Poland. The increased patients’ and physicians’ willingness to benefit from this service provides pharmacists with opportunities to develop PC in community pharmacies

In recent years, a significant increase in the incidence of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases has been observed. This is mainly because of the higher life expectancy and thus prolonged contact with risk factors, inadequate diet and lack of physical activity. Along with aging processes, the prevalence and incidence of many diseases rise dramatically. New drugs and solutions are constantly being sought that would help in particular preventing. One way could be the use of vitamin D or its analogues, which through their proven pleiotropic action, have become the focus of the interest of many scientists in the last decade. One might think that the problem of vitamin D deficiency should affect a small part of the population, due to health campaigns carried out and the availability of many OTC preparations with vitamin D in various forms. Research, however, confirms that the need for vitamin D supplementation is overlooked by healthcare professionals, and its deficiencies are widespread worldwide and affect all ages. It is very meaningful problem. It is important to check the concentration of this vitamin in the blood, which in the case of low levels can be correlated with potential health problems. The influence of vitamin D on physiological processes, confirmed by numerous studies and scientific publications, and thus also the prevention of numerous diseases, is an important argument indicating the need for patient education on how to take it regularly. For this reason, preventive actions carried out by professional medical staff, including pharmacists in community pharmacies, regarding awareness of the important role of vitamin D and its impact on our health are important. Patient counseling may have a significant effect on improving quality of life. This article discusses some mechanisms of antiproliferative, neuroprotective and immunomodulatory activity of active vitamin D derivatives on the example of selected cancers, Alzheimer's disease, and multiple sclerosis.W ostatnich latach obserwuje się znaczny wzrost zachorowań na nowotwory i choroby neurodegeneracyjne.

IntroductionDepressive spectrum disorders are common and can hinder breastfeeding success. While medications typically pose minimal risk, the concerns persist. This is the first study that investigates the prevalence and characteristics of drug-related problems among breastfeeding mothers with depressive spectrum disorders. We analyzed those problems to understand their nature, severity, and contributing factors. Additionally, we evaluated the outcomes of pharmacist-led interventions in reducing them. Understanding drug-related problems is crucial for informing evidence-based practices to optimize both maternal mental health and breastfeeding success.Materials and methodsThis prospective observational study was conducted at a specialized pharmacy office in Poznan, Poland, which focuses on lactation support and medication consultations. 47 breastfeeding patients were enrolled. Pharmaceutical consultations were conducted according to Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process standards. Novel MILC Questionnaire was used for efficient and optimal pharmaceutical interview. Drug-related problems were assessed basing on PCNE Classification System version 9.1. For adverse events in lactation, MedDRA v27 nomenclature was used; for causality, Naranjo Scale and LCAT were utilized. CTCAE was used for grading.ResultsAmong the 47 patients, pharmacist identified 49 medication-related problems, with inadequate treatment effect due to underdosing or not taking the medication at all being the most common (57.1%). Pharmacist interventions focused on medication safety information and counseling. Overall, 78.7% of patients accepted these interventions, resulting in problem resolution for 71.4%. Twelve mothers (25.5%) reported adverse events in their infants, but after causality evaluation, only four (8.5%) might have been linked to maternal medication. None required medical intervention beyond one hospitalization for a serious adverse event possibly connected to maternal medication.ConclusionThe study identified high rates of drug-related problems among breastfeeding mothers with depression, primarily due to non-adherence. Pharmacist interventions significantly improved DRP outcomes. Adverse events were reported, but most were mild and did not require intervention. Our findings suggest that lactating mothers with depressive spectrum disorders may benefit from pharmacist-led support to optimize treatment adherence and address medication safety concern

Although pharmacy employees’ involvement in patient education has great potential, the extent to which they actually provide cognitive services seems inadequate. Given the overburdening of the healthcare system and limited access to medical services due to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic outbreak, this study aimed to evaluate the preparedness of Polish pharmacy employees for patient education on the new threat. The study was conducted using the mystery shopper method. Two interviewers phoned 90 randomly chosen community pharmacies throughout Poland and presented some inquiries on the SARS-CoV-2. Pharmacists devoted more time to patients than pharmacy technicians (2:22 vs. 1:54), and the information they provided was significantly more comprehensive (p = 0.006). The majority of respondents provided an evidence-based recommendation on prevention, symptoms, and management of SARS-CoV-2; however, the scope of advice significantly varied. Community pharmacy staff often expressed their concern about the lack of time to address patients’ questions adequately. No statistically significant differences were found in recommendations provided by chain and non-chain pharmacy staff. Obtained results seem to confirm the possibility of involving pharmacists in public health activities during a pandemic. Nevertheless, providing proper working conditions and adequate just-in-time learning solutions is crucial

Ingemar Lindh's research on the principles of collective improvisation and performance conceived as process announce an important development in the 20th-century tradition of the actor's work. After early studies with Étienne Decroux and working collaborations with Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, and Yves Lebreton, Lindh founded the first laboratory theatre in Sweden in 1971, the Institutet för Scenkonst. His practice of collective improvisation is viewed in light of postdramatic concerns such as its resistance to fixed scores, directorial montage, and choreography as an organizing principle

Current View on Green Tea Catechins Formulations, Their Interactions with Selected Drugs, and Prospective Applications for Various Health Conditions

Green tea extract (GTE) is one of the most popular beverages globally, traditionally prepared from Camelia sinensis leaves. Therefore, it is beneficial to define the impact of GTE and its ingredients on the human organism. Epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG) is the most abundant catechin in green tea leaves, belonging to the group of tannins and flavonoids, demonstrating pharmacological activity, but so far, it has not been applied as a drug. This is because EGCG does not present sufficient stability and quickly decomposes through epimerization or autooxidation mechanisms under the influence of light, temperature, changes in pH, or the presence of oxygen. Another limiting factor is EGCG’s low bioavailability after oral administration. Nevertheless, the growing market of dietary supplements together with increasing growing consumption of green tea extracts should prompt us to pay more attention to the safety of both EGCG itself, as well as its influence on other simultaneously used drugs. Previously published data confirm the relationship between healthcare professionals’ access to professional knowledge and their willingness to engage in patient education. For this reason, in this review article, we report the formulations of EGCG and GTE, discuss the data on the safety of EGCG and its possible interactions with drugs, as well as gather various recommendations from medical specialists. Particular attention should be paid to the consumption of green tea during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in the elderly. Patients taking clozapine, digoxin, and warfarin should avoid consuming GTE extracts and dietary supplements containing EGCG. Professional consultation seems especially important for patients treated with statins, calcium channel blockers, or sildenafil

Rising number of chronic diseases worldwide requires improvement of patients’ care system, especially in disease prevention and health promotion. Therefore it is justified to broaden the range of services in community pharmacies in Poland. The aim of this study was to evaluate pharmacists’ opinion about health screenings for chronic diseases in community pharmacies. Research was based on original, anonymous questionnaire administered between July 2016 and March 2017 to pharmacists (n=175; 77.7% women and 22.3% men) practicing in a community pharmacy in Wielkopolska (n=106; 77.4% women and 22.6% men) and Zachodniopomorskie Region (n=69; 78.3% women and 21.7% men). The effect of age and gender on pharmacists’ opinions was evaluated. Among pharmacists who responded, 93.7% agreed that patients don’t have health check-ups when they don’t experience bothersome symptoms of a disease. Almost three fourth of respondents considered implementation of health screening services in pharmacy as valuable as it can have positive influence on development of pharmaceutical care. Younger pharmacists (p=0.019) who collaborate with physicians (p=0.009) were most certain about it. 80,0% of pharmacist, in particular younger one, would offer their patients the screening services (p=0.006). 79,4% pharmacists confirmed that this new service should be reimbursed by National Health Fund. Development of new health screening services in community pharmacies may help to prevent or lower the risk of complications associated with common chronic diseases

    No full text
This Bachelor thesis Conversion and Artistic Creation of Magdalena V. deals with the change of artistic expression of the Czech graphic artist Magdalena V., in a close connection to her religious conversion to the Catholic faith. The first part summarizes the theoretical knowledge of the psychology of religion. It introduces basic definitions and concepts of religion in relation to a religious conversion. In the second part, the author deals with the psychological analysis of Magdalena V.'s typical work through her life, which is supported by numerous photographs. Using the approach of rožnovská school, the author attempts to interpret this artwork on a hypothetical level, focusing on the M.V.'s life and artistic paralel before and after her conversion. The author draws on Magdalena V.'s testimonies about her life which bring light on the intention and context in her art. Related to the author's identification with Magdalena V.'s work, which later became apparent, this paper evolved further into identifying these moments and thus the potential risks inherent in author's own therapeutic work
