Role of the tetrameric structure of Escherichia coli pyruvate oxidase in enzyme activation and lipid binding.
Molecular cloning, DNA sequencing, and biochemical analyses of Escherichia coli glyoxylate carboligase. An enzyme of the acetohydroxy acid synthase-pyruvate oxidase family.
Expression of Escherichia coli pyruvate oxidase (PoxB) depends on the sigma factor encoded by the rpoS (katF) gene.
Personal assistance at work: the Visual Assistance Service in Taiwan
[[abstract]]'Personal assistance' is a key to equal and full participation by disabled people in society. In Taiwan, there are services provided to 'care for' disabled people, but not to support them at work. In view of this, a pilot scheme called the 'Visual Assistant Service' was developed in 2003. This study explores how the visually impaired users, project workers and Visual Assistants viewed the service. The findings show that this service has improved visually impaired workers' sense of control at work and reduced their enforced dependence on their informal support networks. However, users had little control over the way the services were provided. This reveals a lack of full understanding by professionals with regard to the western ideas of 'personal assistance' and the independent living movement.[[note]]SSC
EFEK VITAMIN E TERHADAP KADAR BILIRUBIN TOTAL PADA TIKUS WISTAR YANG MENGALAMI LEUKOSITOSIS SETELAH TERPAPAR ASAP ROKOK
Background: Cigarette smoke contains free radical compound that can brings negative effects for human’s health. An excessive free radicals can reduce total bilirubin levels. Vitamin E serves as antioxidants that can reduces the formation of free radicals, so it will avoid reduction of bilirubin levels. Thus far, there was lack information about the effect of vitamin E on smokers, is associated with total bilirubin levels.
Methods: This study is an experimental research laboratory with the approach of The Post Test Only Control Group Design. The study population was wistar rats that developed in the laboratory of the Universitas Negeri Semarang, is selected by simple random sample is divided into two groups where each group contained five rats. Control group given only one stick of cigarette smoked per day and treatment group were given cigarette smoked and vitamin E 100mg/kg/day. Treatment given for 30 days, at day 31 performed blood sampling. Then calculated the total bilirubin levels.
Result: Shapiro-Wilks test has done and obtained an abnormal data distribution. Non parametric test results of Mann-Whitney test found significant difference between control and treatment groups in the total bilirubin levels (p=0,043).
Conclusion: Total bilirubin levels of wistar rats in the treated group was significantly higher (p=0,043) than in the control group
